Defected Records, a leading house music label founded by Simon Dunmore in 1999, has become a pivotal force in the global dance music scene, particularly in Ibiza. The label's journey in Ibiza began in the early 2000s, coinciding with the island's rise as the epicenter of electronic music. Defected quickly became synonymous with high-energy, soulful house music and was integral in shaping Ibiza's nightlife.

Defected 2024

Defected’s first significant Ibiza residency was at the legendary nightclub Pacha in 2005. The partnership with Pacha, one of the island's most iconic venues, helped establish the label's presence on the island, bringing their unique blend of house music to an international audience. The success of these nights solidified Defected's reputation as a purveyor of quality house music and set the stage for future residencies.

In 2013, Defected took over the Saturday night slot at the newly opened club Booom! Ibiza. Although the club closed soon after due to licensing issues, Defected's nights were hugely successful, attracting a loyal following. It was at this time that "Defected In The House" was born creating a series of events that would become a staple in Ibiza’s clubbing calendar.

In 2017, Defected found a more permanent home at Eden, where they launched a season-long residency. This marked a significant turning point for the label in Ibiza, drawing large crowds and the residency became one of the most popular on the island. The brand's ethos of inclusivity and its dedication to high-quality music resonated with both locals and international visitors.

Defected Ibiza’s story is also closely tied to their annual Defected Croatia festival, which started in 2016 and expanded the label’s influence across Europe. The success of this festival reinforced the brand’s dominance in the global house music scene, and the internal takeover of the brand by new directing staff, headed up by Wez Saunders, in 2023 has seen expansions to the US, Dubai, Malta, Australia, and many more, making it a truly global brand.

In 2024 Defected Records began its residency at Ushuaïa, a huge move for the brand hosting over 5000 revelers every Tuesday, with sister labels Glitterbox at Hï and D4 Dance at OBeach doing just as well. Defected continues to be a key player in Ibiza’s nightlife. Their commitment to the island remains strong, blending the past, present, and future of house music culture to an ever growing and loyal crowd.
