Overview
Juan Sanchez is a dance music polymath, straight up and down. Based in Amsterdam, he is known as a DJ, a producer, the boss of the record label, Format Records, and a resident at Amsterdam’s globally renowned Shelter Club. With such a widespread approach it’s no wonder he is celebrated all around the world for his talent.
Numerous venues and festivals and dance music hot spots including Berghain, Awakenings, Paradigm, Gare, and Time Warp have played host to his raw and forceful sound that manifests even further through his label, Format Records.
Format releases have been supported by some of Sanchez’s most respected peers like Marcel Dettmann, Speedy J, Oscar Mulero, Luke Slater, DVS1, Laurent Garnier, and more. The label’s artist roster is just as impressive with releases from Matrixxman, Jeroen Search, Mike Parker, ROD, and Juan himself, all providing their own renditions of pure, stripped-down techno.
Juan also brings his curatorial skills to his home base of Shelter Amsterdam. Since 2019 he’s hosted his own club night and welcomed some of the world’s best to play alongside him in the legendary establishment like DVS1, Dave Clarke, Regis, Rødhåd, Ellen Allien, and more.
Outside of his support for his fellow artists, his creative output as a producer can stand on its own with his tracks appearing on Ben Sims’ Symbolism and Berghain resident’s Fiedel Super Sound Tool label, among others.
In 2022 he’s already played at various events and destinations around the world including Pasagüero in Mexico City, Gare Porto in Portugal, and the 25th anniversary of Amsterdam’s Loveland Festival.
After doing his thing for over a decade Juan Sanchez has proven he is here to stay, and the scene is very good for it. Amsterdam’s mythical techno scene would not be what it is today without his talent and influence.
