Overview
Beginning her career with her first DJ set at age 17, Lucy Monkman, aka Monki, is now one of the most coveted electronic music DJs in the country. Not only is her music in demand after ten years in the industry, she has also proven to be a multifaceted talent, showcasing innovations in several forms. From the worlds of music and sports, to the lands of fashion and presenting, Monki has put her original character and diversified individuality on display.
Monki has challenged and overpowered more domains than ever before. In becoming a respected electronic music tastemaker, she created her very own label &Friends in 2018. Then, after deciding to retire from her popular BBC Radio 1 show, which ran for 6 years, Monki started off on another adventure in radio. During the summer of 2019, she began producing a new radio show with Defected, which quickly became a worldwide sensation, gaining millions of downloads for each show released. Appearances all over the globe mean that Monki won’t be in one place for very long; her bustling schedule involves traveling between the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia year round, along with the exceptional annual Ibiza tours. She is a trademark performer at some of the UK’s most iconic clubs, including Fabric, Sub Club and The Warehouse Project.
While Monki has released on her own imprint, she has also dropped many tracks via other esteemed labels. Simon Dunmore’s label, Defected Records, released her ‘Electricity’ EP, ‘I Woke Up’ can be found on Jamie Jones’s label, Hottrax, and Toolroom Records is home to Monki’s debut release with DJ Rae ‘I’m Free to Love You’.
A genuine music trailblazer, Monki is naturally talented with a prodigal gift for DJing. She is tremendously adaptable and loyal to her artistry, and greatly passionate about music of all forms. With her decade of experience and consistent work ethic, there is no hesitation in Monki earning her standing as one of the UK’s most valued selectors.
