Sharlene Hector’s love for singing began when she started singing in church at a very young age. Once she turned 18, the UK-based singer joined a session agency. Through her agency, she began booking gigs on massive tv programs like the BRIT Awards and Top of the Pops. She gained a bit more work thanks to her killer pipes and some word of mouth, and after she finished college she decided to dive full time into the music industry.
In the dance music space, Sharlene may best be recognized as the powerhouse vocals behind Basement Jaxx and Blonde. Other vocalist credits for Sharlene include: 'Step It Up' with Riva Starr & Armand Van Helden and 'Saviour' with Dimension. Her bright and powerful vocal stylings pair well with feel-good electro house grooves. Her soulful delivery harkens back to the days of disco & deep Chicago house. She credits lots of amazing memories to her time on the road with Basement Jaxx and Blonde. With them she made appearances at huge festivals like Glastonbury and V Festival. “I met a lovely bunch of people and it was interesting being the only girl on the tour,” she told Tresa Magazine.
Not just a dance music singer, Sharlene is recognized as one of the UK’s best soul and R'n'b vocalists. These days, she spends most of her time on the musical theater stage. She made her musical theater debut as Lorraine in Hairspray at the London Coliseum. She also covered the role of Motormouth Maybelle in the production, a role reprised for the big screen by Queen Latifah in 2007. She’s also been a backing vocalist for Michael Bublé, Tinie Tempah and Muse. At the time of publication, Sharlene is currently touring the UK with the production of Dreamgirls. One thing is for sure, whether it’s in the theater or on the dancefloor, we could listen to Sharlene sing all night long.
