House music's vibrant pulse finds a unique resonance in Gray Area's Road to III Points Exclusive Gray Area Mix series on SoundCloud. This special initiative is designed to spotlight artists featured on the III Points lineup, taking listeners on an auditory journey every week leading up to the festival.
Nestled in the heart of Miami's Wynwood at the Mana Wynwood Convention Center, III Points Festival, happening on October 20th and 21st, marks a decade of championing counterculture music in South Florida. Over the years, III Points has evolved into a cultural touchstone, annually immersing attendees in a rich tapestry of diverse musical genres and art.
This year's monumental celebration showcases headliners like Fred Again.., Iggy Pop, Skrillex, Grimes, and Black Coffee. Not just a festival, III Points also welcomes the acclaimed Despacio party and sound system, a creation of LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and Soulwax’s David and Stephen Dewaele. As the festival promises both a retrospective look at its impactful past and a glance towards an exciting future, attendees are set for an unparalleled journey of sonic and artistic discovery.
Kicking off the Road to III Points series is Miami native, Troy Kurtz. From his early days during the late ‘2000s golden era of Miami’s bustling club circuit, where he held residencies at spots like Electric Pickle and Bardot, to his involvement with the city's collectives like Overthrow and Slap & Tickle, Troy Kurtz has navigated diverse musical terrains.
He's graced stages at major events, notably his performance at Ultra Music Festival in 2010, and supported renowned acts at venues like LIV, playing alongside big names such as Deadmau5 and Skrillex. Beyond the stage, his ear for innovative sounds was honed as a contributing editor for the influential music blog, Gotta Dance Dirty.
In 2012, the music world took notice when he released his debut EP under the Kurtz & Bomber moniker with John Digweed’s Bedrock Records. This was followed by a significant stint in Los Angeles, where he collaborated with industry titans and played at premier venues, only to eventually return to his Miami roots. His passion led to the creation of his label, Pulp Trax, under which he's been churning out a range of compelling EPs, reflecting his broad musical palette.
As he shares, “It's no secret that Miami has been on a meteoric rise over the last few years. III Points has been there from the beginning and has blossomed into one of the best festivals in the US since its inception a decade ago. The level of homegrown talent on the bill spread across all the different stages of the festival makes this an important launch for local artists. Explore some new sounds and check out Despacio and Danny Daze's BLUE installation.”
You can find Troy Kurtz at the Le Rouge Stage on Friday, October 20th. For those who want to embark on this audio adventure, his exclusive mix for the III Points takeover can be found down below.
