Overview
Anthony McGinley, stage name ABSOLUTE., is a neon-haired DJ and producer who is known for his pummeling basslines and infectious personality. His jerky rhythms have captured the attention of many notable names in various spaces across the industry. His waves of techno, nu-skool rave, breaks, and house music garnered the respect of Pete Tong, Disclosure, MixMag, Anie Mac, and DJMag.
ABSOLUTE.’S story begins in Torquay, a seaside resort town on the English Channel in Devon, south west England where he was born. He grew up on a healthy diet of vinyl and skating; utterly obsessed with dance music, he would skate and go to roller discos where they’d play the 90s house music he fell in love with. At the age of 10 he was hooked by rave cassettes that hosted musical classics by Liquid, The Shamen, Opus III, The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, and Daft Punk. Instead of spending money on clothes for school, a young ABSOLUTE. saved his money to buy a set of decks that he then used to practice beat matching while listening to Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show.
His initial DJ gigs came from frequenting the Torquay record store, Soundz. He went on to win the national Bacardi DJ competition which at the time gave ABSOLUTE. the confidence boost he needed to pursue music a little more seriously. As his career picked up more steam, he started hanging out with Steve Thomas, a resident at legendary London queer parties Trade and DTPM. Inspired by his work, ABSOLUTE. teamed up with Larry Tee and together they started up the colorful, queer, weekly soiree, Super Electro Party Machine at East Bloc. The pair eventually founded another party but after Larry moved out of the city, ABSOLUTE. took full control and WUT? Club was born. The sense of community at these parties was very clear, everyone came together to celebrate freedom and LGBTQIA culture. Although the party grew to be very popular, they eventually came to a halt and ABSOLUTE. shifted his energy to production and was eventually signed by musical hero Tiga to Turbo.
Though his focus has been locked on creating anything from euphoric rave, disco, piano house, to industrial techno. ABSOLUTE. remains devoted to raising awareness about the world’s current climate emergency and an active advocate of the queer community.
