Nautik is a Peruvian-born DJ, record producer, and songwriter. Based out of Miami, he released his debut single, "Work That," on Shiba San's tastemaking Basement Leak imprint in 2021. Shiba and Nautik later collaborated on a two-track EP, 

 which earned support from top-flight DJs globally, including Vintage Culture and Diplo. Nautik's naughty take on tech house has taken him into the DJ booth to perform at some of the most respected clubs in the US, like Club Space Miami, Elsewhere in Brooklyn, Sound in LA, and more.

What made you fall in love with dance music?

I always liked electronic music, but watching Fatboy Slim's 

 in 2002 changed my life and made me fall in love with dance music.

What's the story you are trying to tell your music?

I don't really have a story, but I always try to make music depending on my mood. Sometimes the tracks can be very energetic and sometimes they can be more vibey. I've got some really cool tech tracks on the way showing a different side of Nautik.

What was your musical upbringing like, and how did it contribute to your musical DNA?

I was born in Peru, and when I was ten years old, I was singing and performing for a group band there. My mom and dad always pushed me to learn new things and were always supportive. So I learned how to play drums and other instruments at a young age and went to music school to learn how to read music.

Tell us about your most memorable night out as an artist.

I've been lucky to play at some amazing parties, some venues are smaller, and some are bigger, but all are memorable in some type of way.

Tell us about your most memorable night out as a fan.

As a fan, I remember going to see Azari & III live. It was different. I used to be a big fan. They had a dope show.

What do you remember about your first DJ gig?

My first DJ gig was in high school. Everyone used to book me for their parties at my school. I remember having vinyl and taking lots of equipment in my beat-up car—big speakers, turntables, CDs. It was a different time.

How, if at all, does listening to music figure into your creative process?

I listen to so many different genres of music, from Spanish salsa to rock 'n roll. When I make music, I try to go with the flow. It depends on my mood. I always try to make music I see myself [and others] playing.

I love the sound of the MOOG! Phat, bassy analog sounds, I love them all! I have a Minimoog I use a lot. I really like weird sounds, 808's, and 909's.

What excites you about the future of electronic music?

I'm really looking forward to seeing what will happen with AI in the electronic music scene.
