Piano Keys and Digital Dreams: A Candid Chat with Two Lanes

In the dynamic landscape of electronic music, TWO LANES have carved a niche that transcends the ephemeral trends of the genre, crafting a sound that is as introspective as it is innovative. Born into a family where artistry and musicality were the norm, with a mother who painted and a father who played jazz, the Berlin-based siblings Leo and Rafa Schmid were destined for a life steeped in creativity. Their divergent musical paths—Leo's classical piano training and Rafa's exploration of electronic production—converged to form TWO LANES, a project that seamlessly blends the acoustic with the electronic, the traditional with the contemporary.

The duo's journey into music was marked by a serendipitous moment: a spontaneous session where Leo's classical piano chords met Rafa's electronic beats, laying the foundation for their unique sound. This blend of Leo's formal music education, including a Master’s Degree in Historical Performance from The Juilliard School, and Rafa's self-taught prowess in sound design and electronic music production, has defined TWO LANES' identity. Their music is a dialogue between the classical and the modern, where emotive piano melodies intertwine with intricate electronic landscapes.

TWO LANES' discography, including their debut album 'Duality,' reflects their journey as artists and siblings. 'Duality' is a testament to their ability to merge their musical backgrounds into a cohesive and resonant whole. The album, along with its piano versions, showcases the duo's versatility and their commitment to exploring the depths of electronic music. Their tracks often begin with the piano, highlighting the instrument's central role in their creative process, before evolving into rich, textured electronic compositions.

The impact of TWO LANES on the electronic music scene is undeniable. With a significant following on streaming platforms and support from major radio stations, the duo has established themselves as a force within the genre. Their music resonates with listeners worldwide, offering a sonic journey that is both personal and universal.
