Defected Presents Radio 1 Dance
Sant Antoni de Portmany, Spain
Event Recommendation
The BBC Radio 1 weekend is a staple of the Ibiza summer calendar, and after a two-year hiatus, it’s back with a bang from August 5-7, 2022. Kicking off on Friday, BBC Radio 1 will be taking over Defected at Eden with Danny Howard and Arielle Free. They’ll be joined by Jansons, LP Giobbi, and John Summit. San Antonio will be absolutely heaving, and the roadblock residency is certain to woo a record-selling number of ravers! Eden Ibiza has worked tirelessly since 1999 to be the top dog when it comes to the Ibiza clubbing scene. Located just across the road from San Antonio’s other megaclub, Es Paradis, both venues stay on their toes vying for the top spot. Subsequently, Eden’s refurbishment meant the addition of an impressive VOID sound system. Some say it’s one of the best on the island and we agree—perfect for Defected’s 100 percent house music policy! Following Defected at Eden, you’ll find the BBC Radio 1 crew at Ushuaïa for ANTS on Saturday. The solid lineup includes Andrea Oliva B2B Hot Since 82, Richy Ahmed, Pete Tong, Groove Armada, Monki, and Jamie Roy! Dig deeper into the DJ lineup thanks to British music producer Danny Howard. ICYMI he’s the host of BBC Radio 1’s Dance Party with over a million listeners every week. Solidified as a music influencer and champion of everything electronic. Not only has he had a hand in the early careers of Martin Garrix, Duke Dumont, and Rudimental, he’s dropped his own EPs on Shadow Child’s acclaimed Food Music, as well as for Toolroom Records and Glasgow Underground. Radio 1 Dance is his weekend, and we can’t wait to see him headline the night at Eden Ibiza. Jansons is one-half of production duo LoveHrtz (alongside Richy Ahmed). He’s played some of the best clubs and festivals worldwide, including fabric London, Watergate Berlin, BPM Portugal, Hideout Festival, Snowbombing, and Warehouse Project. Jansons’ releases on Knee Deep In Sound, Hot Creations, Four Thirty Two Classic Music Company, Skint Records, and 8bit have gained support and recognition from some of dance music’s biggest names! From Certified Public Accountant to one of the world’s most in-demand DJs, John Summit’s self-proclaimed “work hard, play hard” mentality is what got him to where he is today: playing some of the most critically acclaimed stages around the globe. Hailing from the home of house music in Chicago, you can be sure that he’ll be throwing out a whole host of dancefloor fillers for Radio 1 Dance. Scottish DJ and producer Arielle Free began her career in music as the host of Ministry of Sound’s Radio Drive Time before being heralded by the BBC. Not only an incredible radio host, but her skills in the DJ booth have led her to play at some of the best clubs and festivals in the UK including Printworks, Creamfields, Parklife, Glastonbury, Lovebox, and TRNSMT, as well as playing Radio 1 weekends in Ibiza. LP Giobbi uses her background as a classically trained jazz pianist and mixes it with her love for piano house to create her own unique sound. Alongside being a DJ and producer, she has her own educational platform, FEMMEHOUSE, which addresses the lack of representation and equity in electronic music by using her production skills to empower women to learn the language of the studio.
