On Sunday, July 30, the BBC Radio 1 Dance team will seize control, bringing with them a star-studded line-up. Filling the air with tunes and the dance floor with bodies for this special edition of Glitterbox are Aline Rocha, Ash Lauryn, Breakbot & Irfane, Crazy P Soundsystem, DJ Pippi, Myd, and Roger Sanchez, as well as the unforgettable UK duo, The Shapeshifters. The lineup Brazilian DJ and producer Aline Rocha, renowned for her unique blend of house, groove, disco, and soulful sounds, gained international acclaim playing alongside top names such as Sam Divine, Bob Sinclar, and Carl Cox in virtual festivals and at the prestigious Defected Croatia Festival, becoming the only Brazilian woman to represent her country at the event. Lauded for her intense musical research, creativity, and sensitivity, her rise to global recognition since her start in 2005 signals a promising journey that's only just begun. Self-proclaimed “Underground and Black”, Detroit native Ash Lauryn is a certified house-head in the modern, digital world. She’s played across the globe in venues such as Expressions, and Deep South, to gigs at Nowadays in New York, Panorama Bar Berlin, and Printworks London. Her debut solo album Truth was released in September 2021. French duo Breakbot & Irfane have been working together collaboratively for over 12 years and released their latest EP Remedy in 2022. They are responsible for 2010’s timeless anthem “Baby, I’m Yours” and have remixed for the likes of Justice and Metronomy. Crazy P, an English electronic group renowned for their fusion of disco, soul, and house music, originated from a partnership between Chris Todd (Hot Toddy) and Jim Baron (Ron Basejam) in 1995 at Nottingham University, later expanding into a full band with the inclusion of Danielle Moore and others. Renowned for albums such as their debut "A Nice Hot Bath With…" and their politically charged 2019 release Age of the Ego, the band's evolution from sample-driven instrumentals to sophisticated pop hooks and exploratory grooves showcases their remarkable musical journey over two decades. DJ Pippi is an icon of Ibiza and one of the first resident DJs of Pacha. He has been DJing since 1974 and has played alongside almost every big name in the business at almost every club on the island. What he doesn’t know about the music scene on the White Isle, isn’t worth knowing! Versatile musician Myd, renowned for his unique fusion of electro and indie pop, rose to prominence as a member of Club Cheval, later achieving international acclaim for producing for artists like SCH and Kanye West, and further refining his signature style as part of Ed Banger Records. Known for his iconic baseball cap and mustache, anthemic tunes like "The Sun" and "Together We Stand," and memorable music videos, Myd has mastered the art of energizing dance floors, promising a sun-drenched party experience with every set and release. Grammy award-winning producer and DJ Roger Sanchez is one of the most well-known names in house music. He’s also the founder of his label, Stealth Records, and has held countless residencies on the White Isle since 2000. The Shapeshifters are a dynamic duo known for their uplifting tracks and infectious energy. Their career in house music has spanned over 15 years, lighting up dancefloors across the globe.
