Overview
Ultra Music Festival is a world-renowned electronic dance music (EDM) festival that began as a humble one-day gathering on the beaches of Miami. It was founded by Russell Faibisch and Alex Omes and originally held as a small concert in Miami Beach. Over the years it has evolved into a multi-day extravaganza known for its spectacular stage productions and an atmosphere of unparalleled energy. The flagship Miami event draws tens of thousands of fans each March, cementing Ultra’s reputation as a pinnacle event in the global EDM calendar.
In subsequent years, Ultra expanded far beyond its Miami roots. Under the “Ultra Worldwide” banner, the festival now stages events across all six inhabited continents, with editions in countries from Brazil and South Africa to Japan and Australia. One notable international offshoot is Ultra Europe in Croatia, a weeklong destination festival that draws fans from across the globe. Ultra has also launched smaller single-day Road to Ultra shows and beachside events (such as Ultra Beach) to bring the experience to cities where full-scale editions are not yet held. This global expansion has made Ultra one of the most internationally recognized festival brands, helping spread EDM culture worldwide.

As the festival grew, its musical offerings and production scale also diversified. Ultra’s stages now showcase a spectrum of electronic music subgenres, from mainstream house and trance to techno and underground styles. The brand introduced its RESISTANCE sub-brand to spotlight techno and house artists in dedicated arenas, complementing the main stage’s blockbuster EDM acts. Ultra was also a pioneer in embracing live streaming, bringing “Ultra Live” broadcasts to millions of viewers worldwide since the early 2010s. This technological edge and constant innovation have helped Ultra set high standards for production quality and unite a worldwide community of dance music fans.
Over the past two decades, virtually every superstar DJ has performed at Ultra’s events. Frequent headliners include giants like Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Tiësto, Carl Cox, Afrojack, and Hardwell, among many others. These artists often debut new music or deliver special sets at Ultra - including occasional surprise group reunions or once-in-a-lifetime collaborations on stage. Through its global reach and iconic performances, Ultra Music Festival has not only adapted to the evolving EDM scene but also helped shape it, establishing a blueprint for international EDM festivals and uniting a worldwide audience under the banner of electronic music.
