In today’s house music scene, there are few stamps of approval more respected than that of J. Worra. Ariel Dominguez, despite being—by some standards—still an up-and-comer, has already garnered this accolade. Thus far, she’s had several onstage appearances with Worra, as well as a top remix of Worra’s “You, ft. Cat Connors” under her belt also.
More commonly known by her stage alias, DOMii, the Charlotte, North Carolina-based DJ/producer just might follow in Worra’s footsteps, too. Poised for a breakthrough, DOMii has a slew of singles to her name, released on notable labels like Insomniac Records and deadmau5’s house imprint, hau5trap.
And her innovative sound isn’t the only way DOMii is pushing dance music into the present. An openly queer artist, she is actively working to make the dance music scene a safe space for everyone. Her popular Charlotte-based event, Girls Room, has this vision at heart, featuring a variety of queer and women-identifying DJ/producers. Her label, Girls Room Records, is a product of this same ethos, serving as a place to showcase women and minorities in music.
In addition to being a regular at her own parties—which also include a Charlotte-based, house-focused event called House Work—DOMii has opened for big names in dance music like A.C. Slater, Tiësto, and Gorgon City.
