Born and raised in Belgium, it’s no surprise that Ramon Tapia developed an interest in dance music early on. From a young age, Tapia was exposed to all genres of music, from Michael Jackson, to Kraftwerk, to Quincy Jones, to the early originators of Detroit techno. And through his birthright (his father was a Chilean musician), he was practically hardwired for his musical passion, too.

Though his interest was fostered young, Tapia’s career began after a move to Antwerp, where he worked in a record shop and chipped away at learning the ins and outs of music production. His earliest releases are on labels like Herzblut, Craft and Yellow Tail. Tapia received his biggest break in 2010, though, when he was featured on “Strictly Rhythms Vol. 6,” a compilation released on powerhouse New York-based imprint Strictly Rhythm.

This release opened a lot of doors for Tapia, including opportunities at labels like Secret Cinema’s Gem Records, as well as remixes for the likes of DJ Sneak, Armand van Helden, and Umek. In 2012, he founded two of his own labels, Say What? Recordings and Aella Music, as a joint project with fellow DJ/producer Hermanez. He’s also released tracks on Adam Beyer’s label, Drumcode, as well as playing sets at international festivals like Tomorrowland.
