Steve Lawler was making waves in the house music scene long before the genre became commercially popular. Born in Birmingham, England, Lawler began organizing illegal raves at the age of 17. He and 500 of his friends would take over an underground tunnel at the M42 motorway in the early 90s. Once the parties had amassed a cult following, the young DJ started to gather proper club appearances.

In 1997, Darren Hughes signed him as a resident at the Liverpool club Cream. After years of more successful residencies, compilation series, and a couple record releases, Lawler returned to London. In 2002 he began his weekly “Harlem Nights” show at Layo Paskin and Mr C’s club, The End. His weekly sets would turn out to be one of The End's most successful nights, and ran continuously for seven years. As if that weren’t enough, he topped his residency record with nine successful years at the Ibiza superclub Space. His unstoppable reign rightly earned him the nickname “King of Space.”

As a producer, Steve Lawler’s releases have been signed by some of the world’s most established recording labels: R&S Records, Harthouse, OVUM, Be As One, Hot Creations, and his own label VIVa MUSiC. In the 15 years since its creation, VIVa MUSiC has released tracks by Jamie Jones, Audiofly, Bushwacka, and many more. Lawler is often commended by his artists for the generous support, encouragement and opportunities he has given them.

These days, Lawler is maintaining his momentous momentum. To date, he’s raked in five wins at the DJ Awards, performed at the world’s biggest electronic festivals, recorded a track for a blockbuster film, and even been the subject of a dance music documentary.

Steve Lawler has had an incredible career so far. Through his record label and continuous support of the community, there’s no doubt that his legacy will live on for a long time.
