Colyn: Leader of Melodic Techno's New School
The rise of melodic techno has finally made its way across the pond and breached the borders of the United States. Tale Of Us may hold the crown as one of the genre’s most well-known artists—their Afterlife brand being one of the most innovative in dance music. However, the engine of their success roars forward with the help of the young artists they’ve signed to their label, like Mind Against, Massano, Innellea, and Dutch artist Colyn.
Hailing from Amsterdam, Colyn is a well-established artist in his own right. As of writing, he’s spent a year as one of Beatport’s top 50 best-selling artists in melodic techno and house. His growing popularity has caught the eye of American promoters looking to capitalize on the genre’s dominance leading to bookings at some of the most respected house and techno festivals, including Las Vegas’ Art Of The Wild, Austin’s Seismic Dance Event, and San Diego’s debut Proper NYE. With some of the biggest names in melodic techno rarely making appearances in the States, let alone outside of Miami, Colyn has seized a golden opportunity to introduce his discography to the American dancefloor.
By no means a newcomer to the music industry, Colyn has long been a hidden gem waiting for his moment to break into the spotlight. 2022 was his year to shine, as he produced some of his most streamed songs. One of the most anticipated techno IDs coming into 2022, Colyn’s “Oxygen Levels Low,” was heavily supported by Tale Of Us, CamelPhat, Adam Beyer, and more.
A few months later, Colyn was one of the lucky few artists invited for an official remix of RÜFÜS DU SOL’s Surrender album. Taking the stems for “Wildfire” and adding a deep progressive touch, Colyn turned one of the most underrated songs on Surrender, into an Ibiza club weapon.
Colyn is an artist that needs to be on your radar for 2023. He is just getting started.
