Overview
DJ Chus, real name Chus L. Esteban, is a DJ, producer, and label head from Madrid, Spain who's been active since the late 80s. Coming up amid the acid-house movement, Estaban was inspired by the budding scene while also influencing it. He’s known for his signature Iberican Sound, mixing Portuguese and American underground sounds. This came to fruition with the help of techno artist Pablo Ceballos; Together, they are known as Chus & Ceballos. This fusion evolved into a worldwide music trend, awarding the Spanish artist titles like ‘DJ of the Year,’ ‘Best House DJ,’ and ‘Best Remixer.’
In 1992, Esteban became a resident DJ at Club Kadoc in Algarve in South Portugal. In this DJ booth, he witnessed the evolution of dance music in the 90s alongside many of the world’s best international DJs. A couple of years later, he began a decade-long residency at Teatro Kapital in Madrid, still maintaining his summer residency at Kadoc.
Esteban has a discography full of many notable releases under both DJ Chus and Chus & Ceballos aliases. This includes The Groove Foundation’s “That Feeling” as well as singles “Baila” and “Will I” in collaboration with David Penn, his mentor. Further, the Chus & Ceballos duo has many renowned releases, including “Iberican Sound,” “Strong Rhythm,” and “In Stereo.”
He’s not just known for his original work, though. Esteban has produced many noteworthy remixes, such as Luzon’s “Baguio,” Cuba Computers’ “Haunting Me,” Yoko Ono’s “Hell in Paradise,” and Oscar G & Ralph Falcon’s “Dark Beat.” Not to mention, remixes for pop queens like Madonna’s “Hang Up,” Jennifer Lopez’ “Dance Again,” and Shakira’s “Addicted to You.”
DJ Chus is a global name that has performed around the world. He’s held residencies at renowned clubs like Space in Miami, Pacha in NYC, Ageha in Tokyo, Stereo in Montreal, and more. He’s performed in cities like Ibiza, Washington DC, Morocco, Porto, and Costa Rica, at events like Space of Sound, Heroes NYC, Jackies Open Air Daytime, boat parties, virtual festivals, and much more. Decades later, the Spanish artist can still be found performing around the world, with events in Barcelona, Madrid, Florida, and New York coming up.
Alongside his creative ventures, Esteban runs his own label called Stereo Productions, which has received an award for ‘Best House Label.’ Founded in 1999, this imprint is home to his signature Iberican Sound. His Stereo Productions Podcast is broadcasted on some of the best radio stations worldwide and on the internet.
