Matroda
New York, New York
Overview
In recent years, Matroda has become a significant player in dance music. Not only has he championed his own shimmying low-end fueled version of house music, he’s performed at some of the most renowned music festivals, and the likes of DJ Snake, Martin Garrix, and other big names seek out his remixes. On Saturday, May 13, 2023, Gray Area is excited to welcome Matroda back to NYC for a spectacular showcase at Musica NYC. And after his sold-out show with us in December, you know this one will be a smasher.
The Matroda sound, a phrase coined by his adamant fans to describe his unique, celebrated style of house music, has no limits in the studio. Drawing inspiration from Led Zeppelin, Frank Sinatra, and The Beatles while incorporating classical training on violin, drums, and keyboard, it is clear why Matroda’s work has been so in vogue around the globe recently.
In 2015, he collabed with Chris Lake on their hit remix of SNBRN and Kaleena Zanders’ track, “California,” a summer festival smash that gained support from Diplo, Calvin Harris, and others. But in 2019, Matroda released his most ambitious project and created a seismic shift in his sound, The RED Tape. The album was runner-up for best of the year, just behind AC Slater’s Hi8. Later in the year, his collaboration with Wax Motif, “Lose Control,” received high praise, as did “Walk In The Spot,” a bumping tech house anthem.
In 2021, Matroda’s career skyrocketed when he became the 25th-best producer on 1001Tracklists’ renowned data-driven chart. He further solidified his success with multiple Beatport #1’s. At the turn of the decade, Matroda established his label Terminal Underground, releasing the Jack The House EP as its first project. Two years on, the label is a hotbed of emerging talent with releases from San Pacho, Ciszak, Honey & Badger, and Cave Studio.
Amping the room up for Matroda is Ecuadorian-born, Miami-based Mr.Diamond. We've had our eye on him since we heard Jamie Jones drop some of his then-unreleased IDs at Space Park in Miami. His masterful mix of soulful funk and bassline tech put him on the rosters of lauded labels like Dirtybird, Solid Grooves, Black Book, and Hot Creations. The young upstart's thumping grooves have been making the rounds from house giants like The Martinez Brothers, MK, Paco Osunaa, and John Summit at festivals and clubs worldwide. His mix for our Sirius radio show OCHO last month blew us away, and we're excited to welcome him to the Gray Area family.
On May 13, Matroda and Mr.Diamond will bring their infectious sound to Musica NYC - Manhattan’s newest nightlife destination. Nestled deep within Hell’s Kitchen, this 25,000-square-foot space offers three floors of possibilities. Under opulent chandeliers and out-of-this-world dancers, the dancefloor comes alive. Though Musica NYC is a newer venue, it is already hosting legends like Green Velvet, Korolova, and now, Matroda. You don’t want to miss this opportunity to dance the night away to the iconic Matroda sound.
