One could argue that Amnesia Ibiza offers the epitome of the Ibiza clubbing experience, serving as the stage for countless unforgettable musical moments on the island that beacon around the world.

Since its opening in in 1976, the club's been home to some incredible residences such as Marco Carola's Music On and Sven Väth's Cocoon. For 2024, the powerhouse residencies continue as Amnesia is set for its most extensive and action-packed season yet, featuring a full seven-day-a-week lineup throughout the summer. 

So, we thought we’d simplify things for you, providing a day-by-day overview of the music you can expect at the mega club, so no matter when you arrive on the party island, rest assured that incredible DJs are at your fingertips.

MONDAY

Amnesia Presents - by Sonny Fodera & Danny Howard

Amnesia Presents kickstarts the week on Monday nights, and is a party spearheaded by the UK’s award-winning Sonny Fodera and long-reigning king of BBC Radio 1 Danny Howard. 

Since its inaugural season 2022, this fresh Ibiza series has quickly become a hit. For the last two years, UK powerhouse duo Gorgon City has been the third righteous party in demand, however for 2024, the focus is now on Fodera and Howard, as they welcome a wide range of guest artists to perform alongside them in The Terrace each week.

This summer, they’re also opening up the clubs second dancefloor, the Main Room, with a rotating lineup of headliners including Interplanetary Criminal, Sammy Virji, and Girls Don’t Sync! 

On The Terrace, the boys will be joined by a host of industry talent, including both established and exciting upcoming names, and will run from June 17 to September 30, 2024. Keep your eyes peeled for further line-up announcements, as this is the pair’s biggest summer yet.

TUESDAY

Claptone Presents The Masquerade 

Claptone returns to where it all began at Amnesia Ibiza this summer with his magical and mysterious The Masquerade, every Tuesday from June 25th to September 17th.

This move to Amnesia's Terrace on Tuesday's marks a significant moment for the island, and not only this, but The Masquerade will be in collaboration with underground powerhouse events brand HE.SHE.THEY, as they join forces to define a new era of house music. 

The Club Room will transform into an inclusive safe-space of underground luminaries, with fresh artists, HE.SHE.THEY staple production, and theatrical elements inspired by Ibiza's rich history. We didn’t see this collaboration coming, but we are here for it!

Pioneers such as Kerri Chandler, Pete Tong, and modern tastemakers such as Hannah Wants and John Summit have all graced The Masquerade with their presence in past seasons, making it a true celebration of authentic house music. So, who's in store for us this summer?

WEDNESDAY

Paradise

Wednesday’s at Amnesia offer up a lil’ slice of Paradise.

Jamie Jones and Amnesia have forged an irresistible partnership in just two seasons, and we have the privilege of experiencing this synergy once again this summer, every Wednesday, starting from June 19 and concluding on October 2.

Centered around the signature sound of Jamie’s OG label Hot Creations, Paradise consistently draws a crowd of passionate music enthusiasts from around the world. 

True to its name, Paradise offers a haven for house and techno aficionados each week with its exotic themes, from last year's Night of The Jaguar, to this year's focus, Temples Of The Sun. Enticing!

In addition to Jamie Jones himself, last year's lineup featured an impressive array of talent, including Joseph Capriati, Richy Ahmed, Enzo Siragusa, Apollonia, Seb Zito, Archie Hamilton, Chris Stussy, East End Dubs, Loco Dice, Hot Since 82, Fleur Shore, Nicole Moudaber, tINI, Rossi., and many more.

THURSDAY

Do Not Sleep & BRESH

Since 2014, the relentless force known as Do Not Sleep brought to you by the Electric Ibiza crew represents Ibiza's modern underground, and is back with a bang for 2024, hosting five early summer parties at Amnesia, on three consecutive Thursdays from May 16 to May 30, and the first two Wednesdays in June.

Last year featured names Richy Ahmed, Prunk, Eats Everything, Mason Collective, Jackmaster, Ben Hemsley, Solardo, and many others, so you know only the best will come through for 2024.

Taking the reins of the latter half of the summer on Thursdays, will be the Argentinean phenomenon event brand that is BRESH.

Originating in Buenos Aires, it quickly spread across Argentina, making its mark throughout both the Americas and Europe, but most importantly of all, it’s touching down once again in the music capital of the world, Ibiza.

With a music policy centered around Reggaeton and other Spanish-language rap genres, Bresh embodies the epitome of the vibrant energy and infectious rhythms of its native.

Currently, the festivities are a staple at some of the world's largest festivals, and is scheduled for a whole four months at Amnesia, from June 6th to September 12th.

FRIDAY

Methane Presents NEO & Joseph Capriati Presents Metamorfosi

Brand new for 2024, Mathame unveils NEO, the latest performance spectacle from the Italian sibling duo, set to debut at Amnesia Ibiza on June 7.

This groundbreaking show will unfold over 8 Fridays during the summer and will later expand into a global series of events starting in autumn 2024. Details about 'NEO' remain scarce, with the only insight provided by the duo hinting at a transformative and spiritually resonant experience.

The residency, scheduled for Fridays on June 7, 14, 21, 28, July 5, September 13, 20, and 27, will captivate audiences at Amnesia Ibiza's famed Terrace, building upon their acclaimed AV:SHOW, which culminates at Tomorrowland on July 19, 'NEO' promises to be an exceptional evolution of Mathame's artistic vision.

Taking over the latter half of the summer season, Metamorfosi, curated by the ever-evolving Joseph Capriati, delves deep into the intricate layers of his evolving sound, and is back for its biggest season yet.

Scheduled to kick off on July 19 and culminate on September 6, this year's residency is expanding from five to eight. Each week, Capriati will curate a diverse lineup of guest DJs spanning across house, techno, and everything in between, not only in the Terrace, but the Club Room too.

From his early days playing Amnesia's Terrace for the likes of Sven Väth's famed Cocoon and Marco Carola's Music On, Capriati really does goes hand in hand with the famed dancehall. It just makes sense.

SATURDAY

Elrow

elrow celebrates the wild and audacious, mixing the best electronic music currently on the scene with garishly thematic, creative and fantastically executed productions, making it one of the club's busiest nights of the week. 

elrow music usually falls within the tech house region with a solid bunch of regulars such as Adam Beyer, Alisha, Archie Hamilton, Ben Hemsley, Dennis Ferrer, Eats Everything, Ewan McVicar, Fatboy Slim, Franky Rizardo, Joris Voorn, Sidney Charles, Solardo and Syreeta all represented last summer.

Exaggerated street theatre, outlandish props, crazy costumes, inflatables, confetti and over-the-top make-up are all part of the fun. It's a guaranteed night of fun.

SUNDAY

Pyramid

Amnesia's in-house underground night Pyramid is the end of the week party that's become one of Ibiza's most respected house and techno parties of all time. 

Pyramid recaptures the essence of early Ibiza parties with its focus on standout headliners, all night long dances, and cutting edge technology.

It features vast line-ups that bring not just one headliner but many different top-level talents to the world famous club and is well known for its legendary opening and closing events and regular sets from international DJ's of the underground including Four Tet, Ricardo Villalobos, Skream, Deborah De Luca, Marco Faraone, Maceo Plex, Sonja Moonear, Luciano, Ben Klock, Bicep Live, Nina Kraviz and more.

Miami-born and Orlando-refined, Mateo Acosta, or Slugg as the dance floor knows him, is the real deal in a scene that never sleeps. Kicking off his journey into beats at just 15, Slugg has always had his finger on the pulse of what makes a crowd move. Drawing deep from the wells of 90s hip-hop, his music is a fresh mix of nostalgia and new-school cool, a blend that's earned him nods and playtime from the big guns in the house music scene.




When Slugg packed up from Miami to Orlando, it wasn't just a change of scenery. It was there he linked up with the House Keepers collective, a move that sparked a whole new level of game for him. Not one to just ride the wave, he launched his own label, Getbusy, a playground for his own releases and a spotlight for emerging talent that's starting to make some serious noise in the scene.




From epic festival sets that people can't stop talking about, like his unforgettable nights at Okeechobee, EDC Orlando, and his international debut in Costa Rica at BPM, to starting his own label, Slugg's story is about doing what you love and letting that drive take you places.




In an up-close chat, Slugg spills on everything from those early Miami days that lit his fire, the evolution of his sound from hip-hop-infused beats to a more refined vibe, the art of DJing that's got him hooked all over again, and the highlights that have made this ride unforgettable. Plus, he shares the scoop on Getbusy, the label born from a dream to do things his way and shine a light on the next wave of house music heroes.




What first got you into DJing and production? Was there a particular artist, track, or show that sparked your interest?




What got me into DJing and music production was definitely my love of music overall. My music taste has varied all my life, but once I got into house music, I knew this was the one I wanted to rock with. In particular, there was one event, “AMF” Miami, which was an all-ages event back in 2010 (I was 14 years old, having no business being there), and ended up seeing a bunch of Miami legends. This really sparked my interest in the scene, and I started producing music shortly after that.




Your sound has definitely evolved over the years. How would you describe your style now compared to when you first started?




My style before was definitely taking old hip-hop records and trying to replicate that feeling of when I first heard those boom bap beats in hip-hop records. Got to have that bounce! Now, I’d say it’s definitely matured a bit, with sound/instrument choice. I’ve come to terms that not everything has to be a #1 hit.




Balancing the DJ and producer roles must take some juggling. Which do you find is more your creative outlet these days?



It started with production because my gigs were not rolling in yet. Once I started getting some recognition for my releases and I started headlining events, it really made me fall back in love with the art of DJ'ing.



There’s nothing like blending some songs together and throwing different effects/acapellas on top of those and making a whole new meaning to the music. Seeing the people react too it is an INSANE feeling.




Looking back, any festival sets really stand out as career highlights so far? What made that moment so epic?




My first Okeechobe festival set was definitely a game changer and very memorable. I was the headliner on the House Keepers takeover at Incendia, and a larger act had just wrapped up at the main stage. Within 15 mins of my set, I had a crowd of over 2,000 people. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. 

My biggest crowd at a festival to date. For the duration of my set, I was able to hold the crowd and converted a lot of fans that night. My other two memorable ones I’d say would be opening up Neon Garden at EDC Orlando for Factory93 & my first international gig at BPM COSTA RICA. I’d say those are my top three for sure!




Moving cities was a big change. How'd you get linked up with House Keepers collective in Orlando?




Moving from Miami to Orlando was a HUGE part of my success. You would think me leaving Miami for a smaller city like Orlando would be counterproductive; it was legit the complete opposite. I was attending the HK events because of the talent they were bringing through the city and eventually got introduced to Austin Hammer, who took a shot on me by signing my music to the label, which in turn got me playing the parties. From that point forward, there was no looking back. I owe my success so far to the scene in Orlando.




What led to the decision to start your own label, Getbusy? Was it important to have that creative control? What are you hoping to achieve this year with your imprint?




Starting my label, Getbusy, was definitely something my partner Leo and I have dreamed of doing for a very long time.



I started gaining some hype around the Slugg project, and we thought it’d be right to start the brand/label early in my career so that I could let it grow with me from the early stages. This year, our focus is on quality and showcasing emerging talent, not only in the US but internationally as well. We are very excited about the music that is already signed, and our BUSYTOOLS (free download/edits) series has been making a lot of noise with the most recent releases.




Which artist that released on Getbusy is someone we should keep an eye out for?




It’s hard to choose one artist; this is like choosing your favorite kid as a parent. But I’ll give you three artists that I think everyone should be on the lookout for: Nate Chapman, Gian Carlos, & Brayden Terzo. Big stuff coming from these guys. Productions from them are always top-notch.




There are so many legends in the game - any producers, past or present, who still give you inspiration?




There are so many producers that give me inspiration; to name a few, I’d say Rossi., Inland Knights, DJ Premier, RZA, BUTCH, Jesse Perez, Phil Weeks, DJ SNEAK, GUTI, the list can go on forever.




You’ve played a lot of sick venues these past couple of years. Which one has been the most memorable and why?




The sickest venue and by far my favorite to play every single time is Floyd Miami, the basement right under Club Space. There’s something about that room that brings the best out of me every single time. Smaller, intimate room and phenomenal sound… I can't go wrong with that!




Which city has the best crowd energy?




This might be biased because I’m from there, but Miami has to be my favorite crowd to play so far. Maybe it’s just because every time I play down there, it’s like a homecoming. I see all my friends from when I was growing up down there. Energy is always at an all-time high.




If you could spin back-to-back with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?




MARCO CAROLA is the only answer for this haha.




If music wasn't your path, what other career path would you take?




To be completely honest, I have no idea what I would do if I wasn't in music. I’ve been taking an interest in the kitchen lately, so maybe a chef? Haha, who knows.




Without fail, what's the one track that is considered your secret weapon?




I have a couple, but definitely Ben Williams - Drop It Like It’s Hot. Please go look that up and thank me later. Been in rotation since I started my career in music.

When did you get started with music, and at what point did you start taking it seriously?




I began making music around 10 years ago. I started with a jailbroken version of FL Studio mobile on my iPod touch and eventually was given a laptop with a copy of FL Studio 10. It has been an on-and-off journey, as I would always treat music as a “plan B,” even though I knew it was my passion. I think finishing my undergrad at the University of Central Florida lit the fire I always had for music, and starting a career as a Teacher/Coach made me realize quickly the 9-5 lifestyle was not for me.




How do you blend your Dominican and Puerto Rican roots with different music styles to create your own sound?




I think it all stems from the inspiration I get from listening to music from my culture. I am always crate digging and listening to classic Caribbean artists like Wilfredo Vargas and Frankie Ruiz, but also grew up listening to 80’s freestyle, thanks to my pops. I’ve always loved Afro-Latino percussion, from Congas and Tamboras to Timbales and Campanas, so I make sure to incorporate those elements into the music I create.




Can you describe an experience that made you realize you wanted to pursue music professionally?




An experience I remember vividly that influenced my desire to pursue music was my first Electronic concert when I was 16. Thanks to a close friend of mine, Tristan, I was introduced to Steve Aoki. We went to his concert at UCF, and I remember arriving late to meet up with my friends. As I walked into the Arena, Aoki’s “Pursuit of Happiness” remix started playing, the crowd was roaring, the music was blaring, and the light show was absolutely insane. 



I remember standing at the top of the seats, completely forgot I was supposed to meet with my friends, and was soaking in the moment. Seeing Steve Aoki throwing cakes and jumping on stage with a sea of people going crazy made me realize, I wanted a moment like that with me on stage and hundreds singing one of my songs.




How do you stay connected to your roots while appealing to a global audience?




I believe that continuing to be true to myself and creating music I genuinely enjoy will attract those with similar tastes as me. Also, I’m Latino… Latin is Pop… Pop is worldwide ;)




What was it like sharing a stage with Gordo, and how has he influenced your music and career?




Sharing a stage with Gordo is nothing but surreal. I went from seeing him GA at Taraka Orlando last year to going b2b with him in a cave in Ecuador a year later. Gordo has always been an inspiration, especially being an Afro-Latino DJ, playing and producing the music HE enjoys on some of the world's biggest stages made me feel like if he can do it, so can I.




Aside from Gordo, which artists have you drawn inspiration from?




I’ve drawn inspiration from so many artists; if I were to list them, this would be a never-ending list haha. But some artists I get inspiration from currently have to be Keinemusik, Caleb Calloway, Pablo Fierro, Maz, and Vxsion.




How has the success of your songs on TikTok impacted people noticing your music?




TikTok is such a powerful platform to post on. People are dedicated to finding songs once they are teased and will generate traffic to all other socials. My previous songs' streams have significantly gone up, and I’ve created new fans from older music of mine.




With over 2 million Spotify streams, how do you plan to leverage this success for your future projects?




It is definitely cool to look at and monitor the progress, but I try not to let that number get to my head. I now have millions watching and know it’s important to make my fans happy with releasing songs they will enjoy. Having millions anticipating future releases definitely creates some pressure, but I'm confident my fans will enjoy what’s next. I don’t see it so much as leverage but as an indicator to stay consistent and continue to put in the work.




Can you share a memorable moment from any of your sets or the parties you played that made you love what you do even more than you already do?




There are so many more memories to make, but one that will always stand out was spinning at Attic Nightclub with one of my best friends, @LESSAINTT, during EDC Orlando mini music week. We had a flawless night, the club was packed, the energy was like no other, and the people were singing the songs all night. 



I remember we played “Don’t You Worry Child,” and when it dropped, the CO2 cannons came out, and we were jumping up and down with smiles from ear to ear as if we were playing Ultra MainStage. Those moments being shared with people you love and creating memories for others that go out to have a good time is what keeps me going.




What’s the backstory behind the album you dropped in 2023? How long were you working on ‘Caras’ for, and where did you draw inspiration from?




Caras has been an album concept of mine since 2018. I’ve been journaling ideas I've had for my album since, jotting down genres and song titles. During COVID, I hit a rut and wasn’t making much music, but the little bit I did turned into samples and concepts for Caras. I started arranging the album in 2021 and dedicated my free time from fall of 2022 to summer of 2023 to finish it all. I would work on my album in-between my athletes' baseball games and even in the classroom on days my students wouldn’t have “outside days.”



“Caras,” which is Spanish for “Faces,” is about the faces I wear in relation to my music. It incorporates inspiration from Reggaeton to Afro-beat and even uses my own vocals in the majority of the album. Every song has its own unique “Face” or vibe that progresses from getting into my car and heading to the beach (Amanecer Intro) into a sunset (Midsummer Interlude) onto the late-night drive back from it all, questioning “Am I Enough”. My album takes inspiration from Drake, Bad Bunny, and Rauw Alejandro, while paying homage to Reggaeton and the Afro & Latino Culture.




Out of all the tracks you have out, which one is your favorite?




They are all my babies, but it would have to be between “Am I Enough?” or “Pa Que Goce.” Both on my album Caras. “Am I enough?” was the question I would ask myself redundantly during the process of choosing a career or music; it's also the only song I have ever made a music video for. “Pa Que Goce” has a mixture of two of my favorite genres, Reggaeton and House, and is a complete vibe. They both use my vocals, I was always insecure about, but it's been amazing seeing how people respond to those in particular.




In what ways do you engage with your fans, and how important is this interaction to you?




I try to engage with my fans as much as I can on social media. It gets difficult at times because I get so many notifications from all platforms that I don’t want to live on socials but make sure when I get the chance I reply to them and even give some advice when they ask because I know what it's like trying to be seen by artists you admire.




Are there any artists or producers you dream of collaborating with in the future?




I dream of collaborations every day, definitely not limited to, Drake, The Weeknd, Rauw, Bad Bunny, Tainy, Feid, Rosalía. If you can put me on to any of these, don’t hesitate to reach out haha.




If you could only listen to three tracks for the rest of your life, which ones would it be and why?



Major Lazer, Dj Snake, MØ - Lean On (such a feel-good song and reminds me of some great times)

The Weeknd, Drake - The Zone (Two of the goats, need I say more?)

Dimension Latina - Llorarás (I always have this song stuck in my head for some reason; it's obviously a classic and a banger)




When do you feel the most at peace?




I feel the most at peace when I am home, sitting on my patio, soaking up some rays from the sun while writing or listening to new music. Nature and music are my peace.

The Birth of Pacha 

In 1967, Ricardo and Piti Urgell, the visionary brothers behind Pacha, opened their first venue in Stiges, near Barcelona. Six years later, drawn by the vibrant hippy movement, they set their sights on Ibiza - a haven for artists and bohemians, which was undergoing a hedonistic transformation. 

The name "Pacha" was born from a whimsical conversation between Ricardo and his wife, reflecting their aspiration to live like kings or 'pachas' as their clubs flourished. And how fitting it is...

Ibiza's Dance Revolution 

In 1973, Pacha Ibiza opened its doors, coinciding with the transition from disco to house music. The island became a melting pot for the evolving electronic music scene, influenced by North America and fueled by the UK's acid-house raves. Pacha embraced this eclectic spirit, offering an open-minded and laid-back atmosphere that set it apart.

Now, the club play's host to their in-house and day-one staples Pure Pacha and Flower Power, as well as a number of top residencies throughout the summer including CamelPhat on Tuesday's, Marco Carola's Music On on Friday's, and Solomun on Sunday's.

The iconic double-cherry logo became synonymous with the brand, representing its heritage, music, and glamorous approach to clubbing.

In recent years, Pacha has transformed into a lifestyle brand, extending its influence into restaurants, hotels, fashion, and perfumes. The group's diversification includes the upscale Pacha-owned hotel, Destino, also in Ibiza.

Pepe Roselló, born on the vibrant island of Ibiza in 1936, emerged as a visionary businessman and a legendary figure in the realm of entertainment and nightlife. His life thus far, unfolding against the backdrop of the Civil War's challenges, paints a captivating journey marked by calamities, unlikely anecdotes, and an unwavering amount of dedication to the nightlife scene.

Growing up in the suburb of San Antoni de Portmany, Pepe witnessed the transformation of Ibiza during his early years. Ultimately becoming a forerunner of the Ibiza nightlife scene, his ventures in the entertainment industry began in the early 1960s, with groundbreaking clubs like Playboy in San Antonio, and Playboy 2 in the late 1970s.

Notably, the club hosted significant international DJs and emphasized excellence and continuity with its residents, including the legendary Carl Cox. After stepping down from the club, Cox decided to move on, but not before playing a nine-hour final set in September 2016.

Pepe's latest venture, Space Eat&Dance, opened its doors in July 2022, housed in an old restaurant built in the 1950s. Positioned next to the sea in the historical San Antonio, it serves as a time tunnel, transporting visitors back to the sunsets and magic of the mythical bay, combining haute cuisine with the authentic 'chill out' and 'sunset' culture.

In 2024, Pepe Roselló expands the Space legacy with the opening of Space Riccione in Italy, a "new generation club" aiming to redefine the clubbing experience. With distinct areas like the Arena, Garden, Terrace, and Lounge, this venue promises to be a haven for club culture enthusiasts, pulsating with energy from morning till night.

And guess who's opening the new Italian job up? Of course, Carl Cox!

His unwavering belief in the guiding principles of love for music and mutual respect remains at the core of the Space Riccione experience.

Pepe Roselló's influence extends beyond clubbing, as evidenced by his collaboration with Neverdogs on their 2023 dance floor ready track titled 'Ibiza'.

Additionally, the book '25th Anniversary Space Ibiza. The story of the best club in the world. 1989-2014.' chronicles the experiences of Roselló in the initial stage of his influential career, showcasing the important role played by various individuals and events in the success of Space Ibiza and the Pitiusas islands' leisure model.

Max Dean's name has been ringing off the charts in the music industry, catapulting from a fresh-faced newcomer to a sought-after powerhouse in what feels like the blink of an eye. Since his first release, "Back To You," in 2021, the London-born artist has been releasing on some of the most renowned labels, playing on the most prestigious stages, and collaborating with big league names.



From his early days as a self-taught producer to becoming a name that's buzzing across continents, Max's journey is nothing short of inspiring. He credits his rapid rise to the mix of hard work and belief drilled into him by his dad, alongside his fearless approach to music that's caught ears and hearts worldwide. With the US tour on the horizon and his label, neXup, lifting up new artists, Max is all about stepping outside the norms in house music and bringing fresh sounds to the forefront.



We're diving deep with Max Dean, getting into the groove of what makes him tick, his vision for the future of house, and how he keeps it real in an industry that always has its finger on the pulse of the next big thing. 



Your productions blend various genres like house, techno, and hip-hop. What inspires these crossover influences in your music?

From a young age, I’ve always been inspired by different types of music. Sometimes it’s down to what I’m listening to at the current point of time in my life.

As a self-taught producer, what have been some of your biggest learnings along the way? Any tips for aspiring producers?

One tip, I always make sure I reiterate is that you need to be fearless to be successful not worry about what other people think, and never give up.



You've achieved success so early in your career. What would you attribute your rise to prominence to?

My dad was one of the core foundations of my success. He instilled in me from an early age, that hard work and self-belief will get you far.



What's one idea or track you're working on currently that you're particularly excited about?

I recently made a remix to a huge deep house era record named “Reckless with Your Love” by Azari & III. This record is a big inspiration of mine and influenced my music massively. So, to be able to be doing a remix for them is huge.

You've toured extensively in Europe and now Australia/Asia - any new regions you're looking to break into next?

I am coming over to the States next month and I cannot wait.



Your label neXup focuses on emerging artists. How do you select which artists to work with?

When I contact a new emerging artist, I like to make it more personal, by exploring their music and building a relationship with them. Keep an eye on what they’re doing and what music they’re making. And if I’m supporting their music in my set, I look to see if I will sign it. And if I sign them, I’ll book them for my party.



In a perfect world, what's one new technology you'd like to see shape the future of house music?

No world is perfect. The house music scene is fine as it is. Whatever adds to the music scene in the future is a bonus.



If you couldn't be a DJ/producer, what other career would you enjoy?

Before I was trying to be a DJ/producer, I was pursuing a career in professional football however, I decided to stop that and become a DJ.

What's the biggest misconception people have about life as a touring artist?

Tour life is amazing, and I absolutely love it, however, it’s not for the weak. Lots of traveling, lack of sleep, and lots of unhealthy diet. Sometimes touring means not really, seeing the new cities you visit. It’s mainly just in and out. 



Your passions seem to extend beyond just music - what else inspires you creatively?

Traveling and seeing new places inspires me creatively. I recently just went to Egypt and coming back from there, I wanted to sample some of their traditional music in some of my music.

There's a lively underground scene in London - got any upcoming favorite local DJs we should check out?

Most definitely! Here are a few I am really enjoying seeing grow at the moment! GIGSTA, JAMIE ARAMAYO, TOMMY PHILLIPS. 



If you could play a dream show anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Glastonbury for sure, I’d love to be able to play there one day.

What's the funniest thing that's ever happened to you on tour?

My girlfriend got absolutely drenched by a group of young kids in a small town in Ecuador, during carnival with a wheelie bin full of water. At the time it wasn’t the funniest but looking back on it, it was hilarious.



Did you have a mentor growing up in the music scene or anyone you looked up to that sort of navigated you?

My manager Ross! He has always been there for me and guided me! Very grateful to have him as my manager.

In your opinion, what’s one thing the house music world is missing nowadays that it needs more of?

Today’s generation of ravers do spend a lot of the night filming and on their phones, this is great for keeping memory, however, in small doses, it’s important to be present during the rave and I think the house is it needs more of that.



If you could jam with any artists, dead or alive, who would be your dream collaboration?

Hot natured for sure! You can’t beat their music and era. What they cultivated is timeless.

And finally, outside of music, what's a passion or hobby of yours that your fans might be surprised to learn about?

I enjoy cooking and I’d like to say I can make a banging pasta :)

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

How do your mother's painting and your father's jazz background influence the aesthetic and sound of Two Lanes?

Leo:

Growing up in a creative household and being exposed to all kinds of music and art is deeply influential and has certainly shaped the way we perceive music. We have also experienced a lot of support from our family for what we are doing. All these emotional experiences from our past are woven into our sound.





Leo, how has your classical training and experience at Juilliard shaped the way you approach electronic music composition?



Leo:

When you study music at University you get a profound knowledge of music theory and your instrument. This has shaped my approach to how to create our own musical language. In our live set we try to create space for those moments where I play the piano, inviting the audience to experience these improvisational moments.





Rafa, could you describe a breakthrough moment in your sound design or beat-making that significantly influenced a Two Lanes track?



Rafa:

When I started producing electronic music, I had this tendency to add too many elements to a track. Over time I realized that less is more. Instead of stacking layers upon layers, I learned to focus on modulating just a few key elements. Now when we're finishing up a song, we always ask ourselves: 'What elements are really essential to make the idea work?' and 'What can we strip away?' It's all about finding that perfect balance.



The creation of your debut album "Duality" seems like a journey of blending your musical backgrounds. Can you share a story about how one of the tracks from the album was born?

Rafa:

We really enjoy going through old track ideas to experiment with arrangements or tempo adjustments. When we first started working on 'Belong,' it had a faster tempo but the track was missing that special something. One day, we revisited the idea and decided to slow it down by 20 BPM and started transposing the track up and down to find the perfect key- and suddenly everything fell into place. Sometimes it really helps to play around with already existing elements and see if something new sparks.




How does the dynamic of starting a track on the piano differ from beginning with an electronic beat, and how does this affect the final piece?

Leo:

Starting a track on the piano is a great tool which allows us to find the right progressions, voicing, melodies and so forth. However, not all the ideas that ‘work’ on the piano can be translated into the realm of electronic sounds. Sometimes we branch out quite a bit from the initial idea. The creative process can be unpredictable and it is important to stay open for interesting musical possibilities that present themselves on the way.



Throughout your first headline tour, how did the live performances feed back into the studio work for‚ “Duality"?

Rafa:

Playing our first headline tour had a big impact on the creative process of Duality. We often play tracks live before releasing them - it gives us a deeper understanding of what is needed in terms of arrangement and how to build up the energy. Being on stage allows us to feel the pulse of each song, to see how it moves and connects with people in real-time. When we are back in the studio we try to incorporate all of these impressions into the tracks.



Can you describe a memorable fan interaction from your tour that left an impact on you or your music?

Rafa:

One time, after a show in California, we met a 70-year-old couple who told us they loved listening to our music. It was such a sweet moment because it truly shows that music transcends age or location.




How has your way of making music together changed since you first started?

Rafa:

Honestly, not much has changed in how we make music together since we first started. We've picked up more technical know-how over the years of producing and we've got a better understanding of the kind of vibe we're after - but at the core, it's still about jamming out on the piano or synths and seeing what feels right.



What's the most unexpected source of inspiration you've encountered in your musical journey?

Leo:

It is always inspiring to listen to music while being occupied with something else. We love listening to some unfinished demos while taking a walk or driving, so you are emotionally open to take in the overall vibe of the music but you don’t pay too much attention to little details.



Imagine you're hosting a dinner party and can invite three musicians, dead or alive. Who would be at the table and why?

Leo:

J.S. Bach, Chet Baker and Rick Rubin. Bach because he was probably the one of the most influential composers of western music, Baker because of his controversial and restless life, and Rubin because he is an inspiring voice in the present.




Can you share an insight or a lesson learned from your tour that you believe will influence your future music or performances?

Rafa:

When we perform live, there are always things that we can't predict. During our shows, I control the arrangement and effects of the tracks, while Leo plays the piano and some other synths. At some points, I transitioned to a new track too early, surprising Leo, which required him to improvise. In retrospect, these moments are always the most special ones, and we're striving to create more of these truly 'free' moments in our upcoming shows.



Reflecting on your journey so far, what advice would you give to artists who are trying to merge different musical styles and backgrounds?

Leo:

I recently read something interesting where someone talked about musicians who can be put into two categories: explorers or farmers. The farmers find something that works for them and they fully immerse themselves into a certain concept or vision they have. The explorers on the other hand constantly feel the urge to evolve and move on to new musical territories. I think it is interesting to visualize this thought and try to ask yourself - ‘is this what I would like to keep doing or shall I keep digging until I find something I would like to hold onto’?

So, what's the secret sauce in the UK music scene that you won't find in the States? How does one juggle beats, nature, and a bit of gaming on the side? And just who would wAFF invite to his dream dinner party? Dive into our exclusive interview with the man himself, where he spills the beans on everything from his musical evolution to his future projects—and, of course, a few laughs along the way.



You've rocked from the local scenes in Leeds and Hull to massive stages across the globe. How has this wild ride shaped the way you create and perform your music?

Well, at the start of my career, I really didn't know how to play any other way than to just play big room tech house tracks one after another, and although I still have that style in my sets, I have learned through the years to play very differently for certain environments/parties. I always love high energy in my sets, but I feel that from all this time playing around the world on so many different stages, I've learned to become a better DJ. I can and do play all different styles of house now, and I feel just the whole experience has built me to become a better DJ as a whole.





As for when I create music, I think I still have my wAFF style in all my music, but I'm making very different styles of house, tech house now than I did before. I have a lot of influence in my productions now from so many different styles, and I feel the music I'm making is in a really good place right now where it feels fresh again and something a little different.



You juggle spirituality, environmentalism, and beats like a pro. How do you keep it real and make sure each passion shines through in your work?

Hmm, good question, ha… well, I don't think my spirituality or environmentalism side comes through in my music. I mean, everything is energy, so I'm sure there are some connections to my spiritual side in my music, as sometimes when I make certain tracks, I do feel a certain energy about them. You get a feeling, and you may try to add more of that into your music, but I feel that for me, it's all its own thing. 



But of course, with my label, we always make sure that with the music we put out and the money we make, we put back into the world by helping animals or by other means, so it does all connect, but for myself and my productions, it's just always an expression of me as an artist, so I don't feel like I juggle them around, I guess it all just works out… I think, ha.



Do you have any cool stories or lightbulb moments that sparked the idea for your label, NATURE?

It just came about during COVID, having so much time to myself for the first time in 10 years, it was a great experience for me as I suddenly started getting all these new ideas of creativity. Making a label was one of them. I always had that in my mind that one day I would like to have my label and start my events, but I just never felt the mental space to even think fully about it. But yeah, COVID life gave me that, so I went down the rabbit hole of figuring out what my label would be named, what it would mean, and what I could do to stand out amongst all the other amazing labels I look up to.



So after a lot of back and forth with the label name, I kept coming back to Nature as I love nature, it's important to me and it's part of who we are as humans, and the planet, so it felt like nature would be a perfect name, although I didn't like the name nature for my label, ha! So it took a long time for me to get comfortable with keeping the name, and what I found through the creative process of Nature being the label name, was that if I could somehow create something I almost like its character, then maybe the word Nature could become its own thing, its own identity. 



I don’t want people to associate the word nature with just what we know of nature. I didn't want animal prints, or people thinking of a forest or something, ha, I wanted people to see nature and see this amazing creative character I had created. So that's when I started coming up with all the artwork and branding. Having a kind of Crash Bandicoot mask logo for the A in nature so it has some character to it. Then the artwork stood out and was vibrant and creative, which took a long time to get right, but now I feel so happy with what I managed to create from it all. I feel that I have achieved the overall vision/goal I had in mind with the label in terms of how it looks and feels. Then it made complete sense with my other idea to use my platform with the label to help the planet in some way, so the name Nature felt perfect in the end!



Jumping from spinning tracks to running a label is huge! What bumps did you hit on that road, and how did you keep your groove going through it all?

It was just a huge challenge the whole way through as when you start a label or a huge project like this, you most often start with a blank canvas and just try to figure it out through endless ideas that never work out, but maybe there's just one thing that you get some glimmer of inspiration from and then go again from there. So, it wasn't easy to get the label up and running, but it was a very enjoyable creative process at the same time. 



The only thing I think I could have done better for myself was I didn't release any music for those two years during COVID as I worked on my label, so I saved all my music for Nature, but I think that kind of hurt my career slightly as everyone was putting out new music over COVID and still building their profiles where I guess I went quiet and waited, so looking back, I should have been releasing music still whilst working on my label instead of just holding onto it all. It wasn't anything major that affected me, but yeah, I feel I didn't keep my groove going as you said, ha, I could have done more. But I've got my groove going again right now with all this new music I've made recently!!



You've hit up some legendary spots for your gigs. What are your top three venues and what makes them stand out for you?

Ah, this question is always impossible to answer as there have just been so many amazing moments, and memories in so many different places, but the ones that have stood out that meant a lot to me are DC-10 at my very first show there. It was one of my first-ever gigs and it was DC10 which was pretty insane, I had all my best friends there with me at the time, so that was a very special moment I won't ever forget.



Comuna 13 in Medellin where I do my festival there now, is something very special to me and unique as it's never been done there before, and I created this whole thing on my own in a place that was once the most dangerous place ever to go which has now been turned around to become this amazing tourist attraction for people to go and visit. It has a lot of history there, so to have the opportunity to create my event there is special and it just blows me away every time. And I have to say Burning Man is another. There is just simply nothing else like this place on Earth, it’s Earth being on another planet for one week and the experiences I’ve had playing there I don’t think anywhere would ever top it off. I know these aren't exactly venues, but they are three places that have impacted my life in a very special way.



Ever had one of those 'wow' moments during your career that just stuck with you or changed your game?

Well, yeah, playing DC10 was 100% at that moment. Also, I remember playing for Cocoon at Amnesia in Ibiza many years ago, and I had that WOW moment there too, as that was always a dream. Also, I played for elrow at Zurich Street Paradise many years ago, and there were one million people there, so I played to an endless sea of people, which completely blew my mind. To be honest, there have been many moments like these, but yeah, I could go on forever talking about just how many there are.



The dance scene and Mother Nature – how do you think we can get them to jam together even better?

I think some really cool events combine these two things. Day Zero in Tulum, Damian Lazarus’ festival, really feels like they have the perfect combo. Many other events have this connection with the earth and music, of course. I mean, every festival is pretty much located in nature, but the nature element doesn't really stand out. But Day Zero really feels like you are entwined with music and nature for sure. Which is something I aim to bring to my Nature events this year too.



You've seen the beats evolve over the years. Any fresh trends or new faces in the scene that have caught your ear lately?

Yeah, the sound has changed a lot over the past couple of years. House music has come back around; I mean, it's never left really, house music is always the root of our music, but different trends always come and go. But right now, this deep/tech/minimal sound has become really popular, and I really love it. Many amazing new artists are just becoming so big right now from this sound like Chris Stussy, East End Dubs, ANOTR, Archie Hamilton, Rossi., Max Dean & Luke Dean, to name a few. But some so many amazing new young artists are making the sickest music on the scene right now, which is really exciting and fresh… I dig it a lot, and my new music and how I play are heavily influenced by this new sound at the moment.





What's cooking in your studio? Are any exciting collaborations or projects on the horizon that you can give us a sneak peek into?

So, I recently just finished about 15 new tracks that are all ready to be sent out to labels, and some music I'm keeping for my label too. I have been putting out a lot of clips and previews on my Instagram page for everyone to check out, which has been exciting to see how much engagement people have been showing and excitement on each track, so I'm very excited for the music to come out this year. I'm working on a lot more too; I hope to land some releases on labels like No ART, Eastenders, PIV, Solid Grooves again, Microhertz, Crosstown, Vatos Locos, and others, so I've got a lot of goals and music getting cooked up for all that to happen. 



But I've recently agreed to do a collab with Rendher and another with Wheats, so that's something we just discussed recently. I have a remix due to come out on Mahony’s Take Notes label for Mene sometime soon. Another remix I'm about to take on for Illario Allicante’s label ‘Sound D’Elite’. I have been working on more of a commercial house/garage track with a sick vocalist, Rahh. I started this maybe two years ago and really was struggling to get somewhere I was happy with, but I'm going to try to get this off the ground this year. So, there's a handful of exciting new music to look forward to.



What's the special ingredient in the UK music scene that you just don't find in the States?

I would say right now, this new deep tech/house sound that I talked of before is the UK sound right now. I don't know how much of this is popping off in the States at the moment, but I have seen that it seems to be popular over there now; I guess I will find out when I and Max Dean come over for our tour, which I can't wait for.



If you were stuck on an island, and could only bring three records with you, which would they be? Also, which three people in your life are you bringing with you?

Ahhh, this is impossible to answer as I don’t have a clue what the names are of any tracks anymore, ha. I don’t even have one favorite track, and even if I do, I don’t know the name of it, ha. I never listen to music unless I'm DJing making it, or downloading it for my sets, but in my spare time, the last thing I ever want to listen to is music. But on the occasion, I do, then I listen to some random stuff. I would have to bring Enya’s album; I love Enya. Which is random, I know, as it's like classical emotional music; I don't even know how to describe it, but I love it. I would bring Slipknot’s Iowa album probably as I love Slipknot, ha. And something like The Kooks' Album ‘Inside In / Inside Out’ as I just loved that when I was growing up and still do. Or maybe Kings of Leon's albums.



Any of them will do, ha. As for people, well, I'd take two of my best friends, and just find the hottest girl I could find that I could somehow convince to come and get stuck on an island forever, she would have to be sound though, and not a nightmare; otherwise, we would just have to build a raft and kick her out to sea, but we wouldn't want to do that because then we're all fucked! Ha. Oh, I would need my PS5 and VR with me at all times; that would be the last thing; otherwise, I'd just jump face-first off, the tallest tree and just end everything, ha.



Imagine you're hosting a dinner party and can invite three musicians from any era. Who makes the guest list, and what's on the menu?

Ah, another hard one… Probably Michael Jackson because why would you not want to have dinner with him, that would be mental but amazing too. Then maybe John Lennon because it would be so sick to just meet him and talk about life, plus he's a Scouser from Liverpool and all my family are Scousers, so we would get on. And he was spiritual, so I reckon we would get along. The last one would be… Snoop Dogg maybe as he's just sick and seems like he's such a cool guy and good laugh. That would be a sick dinner and some very interesting chats. As for the food, well, who knows because I can't cook for shit, but probably would be a banging spicy Indian curry, maybe vindaloo as that's one of my favorite meals. The dessert would be vegan vanilla cheesecake with ice cream…banging.



If you could wake up tomorrow and be a pro at any other skill, unrelated to music or the arts, what would it be and why?

Well, I have been wanting to learn the violin, so I would love to be a pro at that and be in some orchestra band and make music for movies or games. Either that or be a pro game developer. I've currently been learning how to make games for the past year and have managed to make a couple so far (not completed), but I've got a pretty decent horror VR game on the go. It's so difficult to learn coding and everything else that I'd love to just wake up and know everything and be a pro overnight.

DJ Susan has been reigniting dancefloors and energizing the house music community for years with his spark and skills behind the decks. He was hooked from his first event and has been a driving force in the scene ever since. As a kid, Susan got his would throw crazy house parties in the hood for him and his friends while his dad was flying planes for work. These parties lived by their own rules of community and love - an ethos that later inspired the name of Susan's label, Hood Politics Records.



Susan started Hood Politics Records to give emerging artists a chance to shine outside of the usual industry politics. The label has grown into a true family, where collaboration is king in a world that can get cutthroat. Susan spots new talent simply by being a genuine fan of the music first- with some of his notable signings including names like John Summit, Franky Wah, Chapter & Verse. Balancing DJing, producing, running the label and creating social content might sound crazy, but for Susan it's all about the love of house.

Whether laying down gritty basslines in the studio or keeping the party rocking from the decks, Susan's resilience has shone through challenges over the years. His choice of "Welcome to the Jungle" spells it out - he's got an indomitable spirit perfect for this scene. What initially drew you to the house music scene, and how has your style evolved since you started? 

The love I felt within the community was something that really drew me in, and it all started on the dance floor of my first house music event almost a decade ago. I had never felt anything like it, and I knew at that moment that the house music community is where I was supposed to be. My style since day one has been relatively consistent; I have always prioritized energy in my sets, and although I may play different styles of music these days, the foundation of my sets and my presence in the scene will always remain consistent around that energy.



Can you share the inspiration behind the founding of Hood Politics Records? 

Building a community that is valuable through supporting artists and each other by releasing music independently, creating our own path, and not taking no for an answer. I, along with my good friends who built the label with me, were tired of waiting for people to put us on, so we decided to start putting ourselves on.



How do you approach discovering and supporting emerging artists through your label?

I will always be a fan first, so I'll hit up artists that I really respect musically. I also have our demo submission link always active and a relentless A&R team at work, so anyone can have the chance; we don’t discriminate based on years of experience. If the music's good, it's getting signed.



What has been one of the most rewarding moments in running Hood Politics Records? 

Creating a family that admires collaboration over competition. Building a community of like-minded artists and individuals who want to see each other succeed. I haven’t seen anything else like it.

How do you balance your roles as a DJ, producer, and label head? [Also creating fun content for socials] 

I love what I do! It’s easy!



In your opinion, what makes a house track truly stand out? 

A good tech house track, to me, is defined by the bassline. You know I like those rollers.

What challenges have you faced in the music industry, and how have you overcome them?

I have faced countless adversities in my career, some were almost career-ending; but if it wasn’t for my foundation and the community I built myself, I would have given up.



If you could only play one of your tracks for the rest of your career, which one would it be and why?

My remix of “Welcome To The Jungle.” It perfectly defines the rockstar that I am.

The Hood Politics of House with DJ Susan

Dalt Vila, the captivating fortified ancient town of Ibiza, otherwise viewed as the island's capital, sits atop a small mountain, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding Mediterranean and Ibiza town.

In contrast to other Ibiza venues covered for partying, the Dalt Vila UNESCO World Heritage Site may be a far cry away from a mega club, but is in fact host to the largest music event of the year in Ibiza - International Music Summit (IMS) Grand Finale.

Taking place typically the last weekend of April each year, IMS Dalt Vila marks the end of the annual summit, but the start of the highly-anticipated summer season here on the island.

The underground house scene is gaining a rising star in the Netherlands. Keep him on your radar - Stef Davidse. Still pursuing his studies, the young artist is rapidly making his name known and achieving success through his music while balancing a full course load.



Signed to respected labels like No Art and WYLD Records, pushing over two million Spotify streams on a collab with ANOTR, and constantly getting hit up in his comment section for more heaters to drop, it's clear that Stef is poised to break through as a next-generation superstar in house music. 



Playing major parties across Europe, like Guerrilla, WYLD, Viva La Vita, and now looking forward to his upcoming show at Birmingham's renowned nightclub, Lab11, Stef’s plate is full as he juggles laying down heat on the dance floor while maintaining his studies.



Blending influences from his deep roots in hip-hop with rolling basslines and soulful vocal house grooves, Stef has carved a distinctive sound. Inspired in his early days by big names like East End Dubs and Archie Hamilton, the producer cites constant evolution and keeps his music pushing.



Having released on massive labels like Micro Hertz, WYLD, and now a very exciting EP on Eastenderz, Stef’s “new” sound continues to precede his reputation. Big things are on the horizon for the Dutchman.



Alongside his rising DJ career, Stef remains a dedicated student. Studying Leisure & Event Management, he utilizes his academy's creative network through the project "Electrolyte," which fuses art and clubbing. Meanwhile, Stef still finds time for the sports that help maintain his productive workflow.

Now it's time to drop some knowledge on Stef Davidse’s story – let’s dive into this exclusive interview!



How did your early experiences with music shape your current sound?

Since I was a kid, I've been into all sorts of music, especially with the radio always on at home. My taste in music has gone through different phases over the years, particularly within the realm of house music. Even today, I still enjoy listening to various sub-genres of house.

The mix of music styles has influenced my music. None of my tracks sound the same because I always try to draw inspiration from other songs. I aim to incorporate that blend of influences into my music, so each track has its unique sound.



What drew you to house music specifically in 2018, and how has your style evolved since then?

In 2018, I noticed the music scene in the Netherlands was on the rise. I delved into the world of house music by watching videos of Luuk van Dijk at the Strafwerk Festival, and I was immediately captivated. Around that time, I decided to visit my sister in Ibiza, where she lived at the time. There, I found myself surrounded by house music – it played on the radio, at parties we attended, it was everywhere. I couldn't get enough of it.



While I dabbled in producing a bit of hip-hop as a hobby back then, my desire to create house music grew immensely after that trip. I started fully focusing on producing house, and it became more and more serious. During that period, I also started going out more, especially to events where house music took center stage. These experiences greatly inspired and encouraged me to fully dedicate myself to making house music.



Was there a specific experience you had where you realized you wanted to stick to house or minimal music?

I remember my first electronic festival, DGTL, where Archie Hamilton was playing. It was the first time there was nice weather in the Netherlands, and his entire set was just amazing, and kind of a magical moment. Apart from that specific moment, there are so many reasons why I wouldn't want to do anything else.

I've been to parties of different genres, but there's nothing I enjoy more than house parties. They are so unique and provide the perfect experience for me. Because of my passion for this music, I continue to produce it. I could never create something I don't enjoy.



If there is any, can you describe the influence of hip-hop on your house music productions?

For me, it's mainly that I regularly listen to hip-hop alongside house, and that's why I incorporate it into some of my tracks. For example, the rhythms you hear in hip-hop occasionally make their way into my music, along with certain sound effects. Additionally, I often use vocals from old hip-hop songs. In many of those songs, there's talking, or things being shouted at the beginning. I enjoy using this in my music by sampling it.



What is your process for selecting vocals and percussion in your tracks?

I believe that a strong vocal can beat a lot of instruments. A good vocal can make your track distinctive, and that's why I'm always on the lookout for it. Sometimes it can be a challenge because searching for the right vocal can slow down your workflow. Therefore, it's good to have already found a vocal before or know where to look. Combining a good vocal with clean percussion, in my opinion, can result in the perfect track.



Can you share your experience working with ANOTR and the journey to achieving over 2 million Spotify streams?

It all started when I had been producing for less than two years. I had the track “Burnin” ready, but it didn't sound exactly how I wanted it to. Although the chords, vocals, and a small part of the arrangement were fine, the rest wasn't quite up to par. So, the track took a back seat for a while. 

Until ANOTR posted on Twitter asking for promos. My good friend Suleiman messaged me immediately and said, ‘Send Burnin.’ Initially, I thought: No, this track is not good enough to share. Eventually, I sent the track, and within a day, I received feedback. They liked the track, but something was missing. I tried to improve it, but at that time, my production skills were not as advanced. I even remember sending the track to them multiple times for feedback, while my entire track was in stereo.



In the end, ANOTR also took on the track. They elevated it to a higher level, and it eventually became a sort of collaboration. Once the track came to life and started playing on the airwaves, we both knew it had to be released. Especially in England, the track was already popular before its official release. People kept asking me when it was coming out in DMs, and some even offered a substantial amount to buy it before the release. The contact with the guys from ANOTR was pleasant from the beginning; they even invited me for a studio session. They are smart guys who know what they're doing.



I'm still happy that they believed in that track; it was a fantastic experience. Since the track was released, the streams have been surpassing my wildest expectations. I knew ANOTR's reach was significant, but I could never have dreamed of this. Since reaching 1 million streams, I even got the cover tattooed on my arm. Not just because of the stream count, but also because the track and everything around it taught me a lot and propelled me forward.

What was it like releasing music on Archie Hamilton's label, Micro Hertz?

Archie Hamilton has always been one of my favorite artists. I'm a fan of both his old and new productions. When I saw him at DGTL in 2018 or 2019, which happened to be my first electronic music festival, I was completely captivated. His sound resonated with me so much that he became one of my major sources of inspiration, a sentiment that still holds true. It felt like an honor to release music on his label.



The EP on the label is a collaboration with Ryan Resso, my preferred collaborator. We have a great understanding and can be honest about our creative desires. We've been working on tracks together since we first met, and there's more to come. Witnessing Archie play the two tracks in Australia got us excited; the audience went wild. Archie immediately expressed interest in signing the tracks. It couldn't have been better.



How significant is the upcoming EP release on East End Dubs' label, East Enderz, for your career?

I still don't know what this will mean for my career, but what I do know is that this EP means a lot to me personally. It provides additional confirmation that things are getting serious now and that it's heading in the direction I've dreamed of. The fact that East End Dubs wants to sign four of my tracks has taken away a lot of uncertainty. This helps me create more tracks and send them out.

East End Dubs has also been a major source of inspiration for me in recent years, especially in how he innovates and remains highly relevant with few releases. Eastenderz seems to be the label of this era; they release both established and new talent, and every release is of high quality. The events they organize at various locations also look impressive. The four tracks I'm releasing on Eastenderz represent my 'new' sound. I struggled for a long time to find my sound, and with these tracks, it finally feels like it fits me.



Are there any artists or producers you particularly admire or draw inspiration from?

Besides the above-mentioned artists, I also appreciate L.P. Rythm and Gaskin. These guys are machines. The series of great tracks they are making this time is very inspiring. They cleverly managed to combine a mix of old and new elements.

Furthermore, I think Ryan Resso is very talented. He has found his recognizable sound, which is evident in his tracks. He regularly sends me great tracks that energize every set I play them in. I also get a lot of inspiration from One Over's tracks. Although I only recently discovered him, I'm finding fat tracks on his SoundCloud and Bandcamp. Everything I've heard so far is powerful, energetic, and has a unique character.



What are you excited about and what are your goals with WYLD Records now that you will be working with them more often?

WYLD has given me some great opportunities. Since my first release, “Love Yourself Anthem,” on the label, I've had a lot of contact with them. I share many tracks with Ryan Resso (the founder), and we collaborate on songs. The sound that WYLD promotes is innovative, and their active approach resonates with me.



They've recently taken over my UK bookings, and I hope to play there often. So far, every show I’ve had in England has been fantastic. I feel that my sound is more popular there than in the Netherlands, and I'm more appreciated. The music scene in England is, in any case, more passionate and more extensive; I sense that in every aspect. I'm looking forward to March 9th, when I play for their 4th anniversary at Lab11 in Birmingham. It's an amazing venue with a great sound system, and besides that, the lineup that day is fantastic, featuring names like Rossi, L.P. Rythm, and Azaad.



How do you balance your music career with your studies at the art academy?

Honestly, it can be quite challenging at times. I find myself getting too engrossed in producing when I should be focusing on school, and the weekend trips abroad don't help with staying on track academically. So far, I've been managing well, and if I dedicate a bit less time to producing, I can easily keep up. However, the passion for producing is just too strong.

I'm pursuing a degree in Leisure & Event Management, and I believe it complements what I'm already doing perfectly. I get to meet a lot of people in the event scene, and my school is filled with creative individuals I can collaborate with. Besides benefiting my network, I'm also making new friends with whom I've started a project called 'Electrolyte.'



Can you tell us more about your project Electrolyte and its aim to combine nightlife and art?

The concept of Electrolyte was born with friends from my studies, and fellow students from my studies. With Electrolyte, we aim to integrate art into nightlife. We do this by organizing club nights and exhibitions, mainly with artists from our academy.

Art and nightlife are two worlds that are strongly intertwined; art transforms the nightlife experience and nightlife also causes art to be experienced differently. During our first event, we already saw that people were getting more involved with art. We are currently busy with exciting plans for 2024 and are looking forward to our first club night in March, where we will be working a lot with audiovisual art.


What has been your most memorable performance in Europe so far, and why?

I think my UK debut last year at the club Lab11 is the one I remember best; the whole experience of the club was so different again for me than in the Netherlands and the B2B with Gaskin was also great. I felt like I could totally do my own thing and the venue completely flooded during the show. Later in the night, I did another B2B with Ryan Resso in a slightly smaller after-club, where we kept going until we were fed up, which is something I had always wanted to do.



Looking forward, what are you most excited about in your music career and evolving as an artist? Is there anything you’re scared of?

I'm very happy that I finally have a certain sound in mind that suits me best. What I do worry about is continuing to produce relevant tracks. I haven't been comfortable for a while now and I haven't made much music in a few months, which I think is super important to do to stay heard. I hope I can teach myself a certain workflow that will always work for me, but this is still developing.



If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

I think I'll go for Rossi. then, his sample choice in terms of vocals along with the other elements in a track of his feels to me like the perfect mix for a good track. I also find the way he stays unique and interesting, his recognizable sound from a few years ago became too repetitive for my liking, but he handled it well and made sure his sound stays diverse.

What's the funniest or most unexpected thing that's happened to you during a performance?

I don't think there has been a specific special moment that stands out. However, many funny and naughty things have obviously happened during my nightlife adventures, which I can't always talk about. But what we can discuss is when I saw someone standing in the crowd with a dog in her arms. Or when I saw a security guard tripped over all the wiring, causing all the power to go out. I hope many more fun experiences come my way because I always love adventure.



What’s been the hardest part about producing music? What’s the most rewarding part?

For me personally, the most challenging part of producing is when I'm working on a track and get stuck in the loop I've created. This happens quite often: I create something I'm happy with, but it's always missing that one element that completes the whole track. These are the most frustrating hours in the studio, and they sometimes make producing less enjoyable.

Fortunately, there are always days when you find the right sounds you are looking for. When that happens, I can get so happy. Then I usually pretty much finish the track right away, no matter how long it may take. Some days I invite friends into the studio to just come and chill. We make music and always have fun during the process. These moments made me realize repeatedly that producing is a great hobby for me and let me see only the positive side of the whole process.



Which country has the best rave/festival scene?

I haven't unlocked many countries yet, but among the places where I've played, England stands out. The folks there know so many artists, and I often sense the passion when I perform at a good gig. You can see in them that they light up from a fantastic party, and that uplifts me.

If you could describe this past year in three words, what would they be?

Change, work, and learning.

What’s something you enjoy doing during your free time? (Aside from music and school).

Naturally, I love going out; it's attending great events that got me into all of this in the first place. So, I shouldn't forget what my biggest source of inspiration is. Additionally, I have a strong passion for sports. It may sound cliché, but engaging in sports helps me find rhythm and achieve goals. I always feel that when my fitness routine is on track, everything else falls into place as well.

How did your early experiences with graffiti and hip-hop culture influence your approach to creating music?

I feel that it helped me to understand unconsciously the creative process and the workflow of making something new, whether it’s graffiti, painting, or making music.

What was your first rave experience like? Do you remember who you saw, and if that had any effect on your calling for dance music?

For me, it was something I really didn’t know about. Social media wasn’t as present as nowadays, and it was through some friends who suggested going to a rave of electronic music. I fell in love with it from the first night, the vibe and the whole experience of going to a rave was really crazy, and I became really passionate about it.


What would you say is the biggest challenge in being a producer and traveling DJ?

Traveling, lol. There are so many hours I have to spend alone at an airport or flying. People think it’s glamorous, but the more shows you get, the more you travel, and the less chance you have to experience where you’re traveling to. Sometimes it's an airport - hotel - club - airport. Haha, but still, I’m 100% committed to this life because I really love what I do, music is my way of life.

Playing at iconic venues like Amnesia and Hï Ibiza is a dream for many DJs. How do these experiences shape your music and performances?

I appreciate that because it shows me that many people value my work and trust the vision of my music. These experiences allow me to be more confident in experimenting with the music I like to play and have a stronger personality when I’m playing.



Your track 'Siéntelo' was featured on Danny Howard & Pete Tong’s BBC1 shows. How does it feel to receive recognition from such massive platforms?

I’m really grateful to know that such iconic figures like my music and they share it with such a big platform as BBC Radio 1.



Collaboration with labels like Cuttin’ Headz, Paco Osuna’s Mindshake, Richy Ahmed’s Four-Thirty-Two, and elrow Music is impressive. What other labels would you like to work with in the future?

Lately, I've been focusing on my own label as I want to grow my own brand that represents my sound. But of course, some of the labels I want to get signed with would be Hot Creations, No Art, Crosstown Rebels, Circoloco, to name a few.



Your upcoming album on Diggin’ is highly anticipated. Can you share a sneak peek into what fans can expect?

I still have a long way to go, but I want to create a sonic journey with all kinds of styles that still represent my sound.



Reflecting on your journey so far, what has been the most surreal moment of your career?

Playing at Avant Gardner Great Hall in NYC for elrow before Danny Tenaglia with a super drop of confetti just before handing the decks to him.



Looking ahead, what are some goals or dreams you're aiming to achieve in the next few years? What’s a venue you never played at but hope to play one day?


I have a quite long bucket list, but some of them would be to have my own residency in a big club in Ibiza, make a collab with one of my idols, make a number one hit, be the front cover of a Spotify playlist, do a full tour of sold-out shows. 

There's still a long way to go, but every time there’s more community that enjoys my music, so I’m happy to be moving forward. DC-10 Mondays for Circoloco Ibiza at The Garden.

The Martinez Brothers to remix my track Siéntelo, would be really curious to see what they come up with.

Michael Jackson - Human Nature, Seal - Fly Like an Eagle, Anita Baker - Giving You the Best. I’ve made edits of all of them, so it would be either the originals or my edits.


Outside of music, what's a hobby or activity that people might be surprised to know you're passionate about?



I’m really passionate about space. I like to watch sci-fi movies or read sci-fi books. Also, I love basketball. I try to play whenever I have the chance and some time off.


Finally, if you could send a message to your 17-year-old self, just starting out in the music world, what would you say?


Go after your dreams and enjoy the ride, that’s all that matters.

Graffiti & Grooves: The Daniel Orpi Story

If you're into the dance music scene these days, chances are you've heard the name VNSSA dropping. This LA-based artist has been lighting up dancefloors and topping charts at a breakneck pace since hitting the scene a few years back.




It's easy to see why she caught fire so quickly - her 2018 debut single “Creatures” was an instant hit that grabbed people's attention. But she didn't stop there. Track after track followed that continued bending ears and getting bodies moving with her unique spin on tech house. Collaborating with big names like Walker & Royce on their weapon of a track “Word”, getting tracked and played on the likes of Dirtybird and Higher Ground - she was clearly on a mission to dominate.




When she's not in the lab crafting hits, VNSSA brings her talents to the stage to show off her stardom. Her DJ sets seamlessly blend genres to keep the party vibes flowing without missing a beat. Whether she's rocking a more intimate club like Sound LA or major fests like Imagine or Desert Hearts, she always connects with the crowd and leaves them wanting more.



Beyond the decks, she's also playing a role in amplifying other women in the scene. In a genre still finding its footing on diversity, she leads by example that house is for all. Can you describe a standout moment from your recent tour that left a lasting impact on you?

There were a few standout moments. For me, one of the biggest ones was at my San Diego show with Justin Martin. I met a woman who was having the best time, dancing in the front row non-stop, with the biggest smile on her face, and she was 70! I got to talk to her a little bit after my set, and it reminded me how connected we all are over music and how magical that connection can be.




How do you balance staying true to your style while also adapting to different venues and crowds?

I think it’s really important as an artist to never compromise my authenticity. I don’t always want to play my own music, but if the turntables were turned, I would be so bummed if I went to see a DJ and they didn’t play my favorite song of theirs. 

So the challenge is to find a way to give the crowd what they want while still being true to myself. For instance, if there’s a track people love to hear that I’m sick of playing, I’ll make an edit or a mashup. That way, the crowd gets to hear what they want, and I get to play something new. It’s a win-win.




What can fans expect from your upcoming projects or performances?

They can expect the unexpected! If you don’t know me yet, I’m a genre jumper, so for upcoming releases and sets, expect techno, house, indie dance, breaks, and everything in between. As far as performances go, you can expect some fun b2b’s, renegades, festivals (lots), I’ll be incorporating some live elements into my sets, and a lot more that I can’t share just yet.



What's a piece of advice you've received in your career that you find invaluable?

To take time off when you need it. I wish I had started following this advice sooner, but taking time off and taking care of your mental health is so important. I’m a huge advocate for taking time off to recharge. I want to give my crowds the best performance possible because they deserve it, and you can’t pour from an empty cup.



If you could collaborate with any artist, living or deceased, who would it be and why?

Madonna. Her music transcends genres. She’s been breaking the glass ceiling since day one. She’s always true to herself and stands for what she believes in. She’s an advocate for women and LGBTQ+. I watch a lot of old interviews, and the Madonna ones are always my favorite. There’s this one interview from the '90s where Madonna says that her job in music is to make the next girl's job easier. 

And that girl’s job is to make the next girl’s job easier. And so forth. That’s something that always stuck with me and something I strive for. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Madonna. I don’t think a lot of us girls would be.

Whether you first discovered him tearing it up at legendary Tuscan superclub Tenax or holding it down during long summer nights at Amnesia Ibiza, the Italian vet Marco Faraone has been one of dance music's most consistently brilliant selectors for over a decade. What began as a youthful passion cultivated in the underground dance floors of his native town Lucca, has blossomed into over 15 years of global success.



Fast forward to today, and Faraone has well and truly delivered on that potential with a storied career taking in residencies at legendary venues around the globe and an impressive catalog of releases that showcase his mastery of groove-led techno and house. But as this exclusive new interview reveals, it's his passion, work ethic and fearless creativity that truly set him apart.




Take UNCAGE, his own influential imprint which has become an incubator for fresh talent. Faraone radiates pride when discussing the new voices he's been able to champion over the years. Or the experimental albums that push him out of comfort zones - like 2020's genre-melting No Filter LP or his Hope album. This is an artist always hungry to surprise himself, a rarity in such a saturated industry.




Of course, a career highlight was undoubtedly making his debut at Ibizan heavyweight Amnesia - a club close to Faraone's heart. Our talk touches on industry changes too, but it's clear his focus remains on the purity of the art form and underground spirit. With global rides booked well into next year and more boundary-shattering music in the works, the only way is up for this seasoned soul man. Two decades in, he remains a master of his environment - both in the booth and out. The man simply knows how to keep us all dancing.


How did your early experiences in Florence's Tenax club shape your approach to techno music?

Florence, particularly Tenax Club, is where I fell in love with electronic music. I come from a small town in Italy called Lucca, where, back in the days, we didn't have a music scene, just some private parties. I started DJ'ing when I was 14, so I was quite young. People would travel to cities like Florence to go out and dance, but I was too young to move from my city. Tenax Club was the first real club I went to with my friends. I vividly remember the night that sparked my love for electronic music. 



It was a New Year's Eve party in 2006 with Laurent Garnier. I was around 17 or 18, not even old enough to get into the club due to the strict selection at the door. I had to hide in the queue and try to get in with my older friends, avoiding the door selection. I was there as a customer, buying my ticket to have fun. That night at Tenax, especially the party with Laurent Garnier, changed my life.



What inspired you to start the UNCAGE label, and what's your vision for its future?

When I started DJ'ing and producing music, I always gave my tracks to other labels. When you work with other labels, you sometimes need to adapt your music so that the label likes it. I started UNCAGE because, after many years of releasing music on various labels, I wanted to share my musical message by releasing music I loved without trying to please someone else. UNCAGE was started to express my own music and ideas, and to believe in new talents, releasing them alongside established names. We've released artists like Radio Slave and Mark Broom, and we've given many new artists their first opportunity to shine. This makes me proud because, when I started DJ'ing, I wished for such an opportunity. It was tough back then. 



Starting UNCAGE, we've helped many new artists gain a position in the music scene. This year, we're receiving many requests for label showcases, as the label is gaining a following and we've found our sound. We're working hard, and I believe this year will be our best yet, with many offers for label nights. I'm excited to build these up and give these artists a chance to play and show the world their talent behind the decks.



What has been the most memorable moment in your career so far?

Actually, I have a few. When I started DJ'ing, I was just a kid from a small town in Italy, Lucca, dreaming big. We didn't have much of a music scene, just some private parties. So, when I played my first all-night-long set at Tenax, it was a memorable moment. Coming from a small town and getting to play there as a resident, then having a sold-out all-night-long set was a dream come true. Another unforgettable moment was the first time I played on the Terrace at Amnesia in Ibiza. 



I first visited Amnesia when I was 18 or 19, just a kid dreaming of playing there one day. Years later, after much hard work and sacrifice, I found myself in the DJ booth at Amnesia, playing in front of thousands. What could be more memorable than that?

How do you see the techno scene evolving, and what role do you want to play in it?

The techno scene has changed a lot, especially in terms of music and event dynamics. Nowadays, artists are often booked based on ticket sales rather than just their music. This puts pressure on artists to produce music that will sell well on charts and streaming platforms. It's a shift from when techno was new and represented freedom and expression. Now, there's a concern about how well your music will perform in the market. This change has made the genre more commercial. Techno used to be more underground, for a specific community, but it's become more mainstream with the influence of social media and prominent artists.



 My role is to share my experience with artists who follow my musical vision and my label, UNCAGE. We've signed many artists who started their journey with us, and I always try to give them my tips and ideas, helping them to be the best they can be. I also aim to understand new generations and listen to their ideas, as we never stop learning in this industry. My mission is to discover new artists, contribute the best music I can, and maintain a successful label with a strong sound identity.

What's the story behind your first ever track release, and how do you feel about it now?

Before I answer, I need to mention that I have a rich musical background, as my father was a music selector for a radio station back in the 80s. So, I was born surrounded by music, and my father greatly influenced my musical tastes from a young age. In my hometown, we didn't have much in terms of music – no clubs, just private parties. My first EP was released around 2006 when minimal music was leading the industry. It came out on a small local label from Italy and was a minimal release. I'm not really proud of it technically, as my skills have significantly improved over the years. 



However, it's a part of my journey. I'm proud of the entire journey I've created with my music. You can find a variety of genres in my catalog – techno, house, ambient, electronica, deep house. What I'm most proud of is the contribution I've made to music and what I will contribute in the future.

How do you keep your sets fresh and exciting for both new and returning fans?

It's a lot of work. I'm a versatile artist who loves playing everything from house to techno. My performances reflect this diversity. I love creating a unique journey every time I play, and it's rare to hear me play the same set in different venues. Each moment needs a unique experience. I download over 300-400 tracks a week, including promos and demos for my label. I have someone helping me with this because being a dad, DJ, and producer takes a lot of work. 



I personally listen to every single track. Since I play both house and techno, I have to listen to a wide range of music. Sometimes, I find something interesting and make edits that I use exclusively in my DJ sets. It's always a challenge to go through all this music, but it's amazing to see what's coming out. This is how I keep my sets fresh for both newcomers and long-time followers.

What's one piece of advice you wish you had received when starting your DJ career?

Firstly, eat healthily while touring. It pays off in the long term. Eating out all the time seems fun, but it's not healthy, especially when you're playing 15-20 shows a month. Secondly, sleep whenever possible. It's the best thing you can do for your concentration and mindset in the studio. A healthy lifestyle is key to success in this industry.



Can you share an experience that significantly influenced your musical style?

The first significant moment was when I went to Ibiza for the first time. It completely opened my mind. I visited clubs like Amnesia, DC-10, and Space, which was amazing back then. This experience was crucial for my musical growth, as Ibiza is where you learn what's happening in the world of music. It's where everyone from every part of the world goes each summer, and all the best DJs play. You can hear what's new and what's the sound of the moment. Leaving my region to go to Ibiza was like going to paradise, listening to different DJs and getting motivated to experiment with something new. 



I'm really thankful for what I learned in Ibiza over the years. Another pivotal moment was the first time I played at Panorama Bar at Berghain in Berlin when I was 23, almost 10 years ago. Playing there confirmed that what I was doing was right. I was proud when I saw the crowd's reaction to my music in such a legendary place. That set has been recorded and is online on SoundCloud. It boosted my motivation and reaffirmed my belief in my path.



What's the most unexpected source of inspiration you've encountered?

The biggest source of inspiration for me nowadays is my little daughter. Waking up and seeing her smile is an indescribable feeling. It's the biggest source of inspiration and motivation, happiness, and love. It's everything. When you say everything, it truly is. She brings me motivation to make music, to go to the studio. If I have a bad day, just looking at her makes me happy again. My family, in general, is my biggest source of inspiration. Having my daughter and my wife next to me is everything. It's quite an emotional thing to talk about.



How do you approach collaborations with other artists, and who would be your dream collaborator?

For collaborations, the approach is to see if something interesting can come from a fusion of my style and the other artist's. It needs to create a special alchemy. Also, having a good personal connection with the artist can translate into the music. As for my dream collaborations, I have a few. Depeche Mode and Radiohead are on the list. I love Fred again and Four Tet. If I have to choose someone closer to my genre, it would be making music or playing a back-to-back set with Laurent Garnier, my favorite DJ. That would be a dream come true.



What's a common misconception about being a techno DJ/producer that you'd like to dispel?

I think the most important thing to understand is that many people don't see this as a job. They think we're just having fun, traveling the world, posting photos on Instagram, and going on vacation. What they often don't realize is that our schedule is packed – we touch down at the hotel, take a shower, go for dinner, head to the club, and then fly straight after the show to another city for another dinner, shower, and show. It's like 'eat, sleep, rave, repeat.' 



So, while some people think it's all fun, there's a lot of sacrifice behind it – missing time with family, loved ones, hobbies, and personal life. There's stress, anxiety, and constant pressure to perform and create music. We're like machines, but we're also human with feelings. Being a techno DJ is beautiful, but it comes with a lot of sacrifices.

How do you think your Italian heritage influences your music, if at all?

I'm really proud to be Italian and to translate this into my music. Italian producers and DJs are recognized for the groove in our DNA, something you can't buy. You can have the best studio equipment, but you can't buy a heart full of soul and swing. Our origin gives us the groove. Italy has a rich dance and house music background, and this energy is absorbed and transmitted through our music. It's something inherent from our beginnings. Of course, artists from the UK, Berlin, or Detroit have other skills and talents, but what we Italians have is the groove, possibly due to our Latin origins, communication style, or even our good food haha.



What's one venue or festival you haven't played yet but are eager to?

One of my dreams is to play at Coachella. And speaking of festivals, I've never played at Time Warp, one of the most iconic techno festivals. It's one of the biggest events I haven't yet played at. I believe good things take time, and you get them when you truly deserve them. If you deserve them, you'll enjoy what you're doing.

Outside of music, what are your passions or hobbies?

Sometimes I sit in the studio and make different kinds of music, like ambient, which is completely different from what I usually do. This is always something I really enjoy. I released an album during the pandemic called Hope, which is based on electronic and ambient cinematic music. It was a special challenge for me to explore different musical styles. 



Being in the studio is like a hobby for me, akin to playing a sport. But I also enjoy other activities that take me away from my routine. I love going out for walks, watching movies, and I'm really passionate about food and cuisine. However, it's a bit of a problem when touring because we should eat less.

If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would they be and why?

Okay, let's mix this up with personal and musical feelings. The first one would be my wife because I just love having dinner with her. The second would be my grandfather. He was a musician and folk singer before he passed away and was the one who shared his passion for music with my dad, who then passed it on to me. He bought me my first mixer when I was getting into DJ'ing. 

I often think about how proud he would be to see me today, recognized as an international DJ and producer. I always imagine he can see me from the sky, but I would love to have dinner with him to show him what I've achieved. I'm sure he would be super proud. The third choice is more artistically connected to my music. It would be Laurent Garnier. I'm sure I would learn something and be mesmerized by his stories and experiences as a renowned artist who has traveled the world for many years. 



We always chat by email, and he's been supporting my music, sharing beautiful messages. I'm sad that I haven't had the chance to hang out with him for dinner even once, so that would be amazing.

Finally, if you weren't a DJ/producer, what career path do you think you would have followed?

If I weren't a DJ or producer, I would probably be a graphic designer. I really love graphic design, and I even studied it for a part of my life. I genuinely enjoy it. As a real lover of food, another option might have been a chef. However, I'm sure that to cook like a professional chef, you need to dedicate your entire life to it, just as I did with music and DJ'ing. Being a proper chef requires a long time to learn. Who knows, maybe if I weren't a DJ, I might have dedicated myself to learning how to cook and become a five-star Michelin chef.

With two decades of spinning records and igniting dance floors, Varga has established himself as a reputable name in the tech house scene, becoming an integral member of the elrow family and a staple at Amnesia Ibiza.



Celebrated for his spunky and magnetic sets and recognized by national magazine DJ MAG ES and Vicious Magazine, as a revelation DJ, Varga's journey from the heart of Galicia to the global stages is admirable. His presence at renowned festivals like Creamfields, Monegros, Glastonbury, BPM Festival, coupled with his acclaimed releases on labels like elrow Music, MUSE, and VIVa Music, really show his chops in the music industry.

How did your journey in the music scene begin, and what drew you to tech house specifically?

I started playing back in 2003 and soon moved to Ibiza, where the dominant styles were house and tech house. This influenced me a lot, and from the beginning, I have always played the same style.



What has been the most impactful experience in your career while playing at venues like La Diosa, Space, and Ushuaia?

Having the chance to do the closing set for Elrow at Ushuaia in front of 9,000 people was unforgettable. I will remember this day forever.




How do you approach the creative process when producing new tracks?

Basically, I need to feel inspired and have a clear idea in mind. If I don't feel that way, I prefer to work on the technical aspects of tracks already started. To create something new, I need to feel connected and inspired.




What was it like being a resident DJ at Amnesia Ibiza, and how has it influenced your music?

Working in a club like Amnesia, which I consider the best in the world, gives you the opportunity to nourish yourself and learn from many different styles of music since every day is a different event. I really learned a lot there and it changed my career.




With over 50 releases, which track or album do you feel most personally connected to and why?

Possibly my best work to date has been my EP on Josh Butler's label Origin. The track "Just Be" on side A is my favorite song.




What's the story behind your first ever DJ set, and how do you feel you've evolved since then?

My first DJ set in front of people was at a private party with friends, only 50 people, but I will always remember this first time. The best decision in my life was to become a DJ. I really love my job.




How do you balance your personal life with the demands of touring and producing?

Honestly, it's not easy, but whenever I have time for myself and stay at home, I try to lead a normal and healthy life. I go to the gym, eat healthy food, relax, and sleep well – things that you can't do when you're touring.



If you could collaborate with any artist, living or deceased, who would it be and why?

Jamie Jones is my favorite artist. He's also a friend and an amazing person, and an inspiration for me. It would be amazing to do a collaboration with him one day.



What's one country or city you haven't performed in yet but would love to?

I've never played in New Zealand, for example. I would like to perform there one day; I've heard really good things about the parties there.




Outside of music, what are your passions or hobbies?

I like to watch football, go to the gym, and do snowboarding.

If you could have any superpower for a day, what would it be and why?

Without a doubt, teleportation, haha. It would be amazing for work and to avoid airports.

What's the most surprising source of inspiration you've found in your career?

Probably when I met the Arnau family (Elrow owners). They are an example and inspiration for everyone.



Finally, if you weren't a DJ/producer, what alternate career path do you think you might have pursued?

Wow, difficult question because I've been doing this all my life. I never thought about other paths, but when I was a child, I wanted to be a football player one day.

In Tune with Toni Varga: The Rhythm Whisperer

If you love a good house music story, then Jean Pierre's journey will get you floored. This man has paid his dues in the underground scene for over 20 years now, but his drive shows no signs of slowing down.



Born in NYC, Jean was hooked on dance music from an early age after hearing crazy tales of Sound Factory from his brother. Fate brought him to Colombia as a teen, where he got his start DJing at huge clubs.



By the time Jean returned to New York, he was hungry to work. Gig by gig, he proved himself as a selector at legendary venues like Pacha. His days grinding at record store Halcyon connected him with the dopest artists in the borough too.



A trip to Ibiza in 2012 was a straight game-changer - this is when Jean discovered his true calling for global house sounds. These days you'll find him representing at mega festivals worldwide, from BPM to Movement in Detroit. Additionally, he also runs his sick label Pakate from his Miami base these days.



In this chat, Jean gives us the lowdown on epic collabs with talents like Daniel Orpi. He also shares how teaching up-and-comers during lockdown seriously leveled up his own production skills.




After all he's been through, one thing is clear - Jean Pierre lives, breathes and animates dance floors with house music on another level. Get into his inspiring story inside.


Can you talk about a key moment early in your career that really changed your path in music?

One key moment was going to Ibiza in 2012 for the first time. It changed my outlook on the music I was playing in NYC and influenced everything I wanted to work in the following years.



When it comes to music production, is there any way you try to incorporate your Colombian roots?

I love Latin percussion for sure and I try to incorporate that in my sound as much as I can. The rhythm and groove is key.



Can you talk about any memorable moments or experiences working with other artists on a track? Or even going b2b with one during a live set?

I feel that every artist has his own unique approach to making music and it's very interesting to collaborate with artists, for example Daniel Orpi. We started our EP for Paco’s Osuna’s Mindshake label in Miami and then continued to work on it in London when I was touring. I feel the vibe of the city that the music is created definitely takes a part of the process.



Is there a special memory from your time at Halcyon that had any influence on your career?

I just loved being surrounded by so much music, it introduced me to so many new artists. It was great to be a part of the Williamsburg community during these years.



How did moving from NYC to Miami change your music and your life? What are your thoughts on Miami’s music scene? Do you prefer NYC’s?

The quality of life for me improved a great deal. I was able to focus more on production and build a bigger studio which became a nice hub for me and a bunch of upcoming artists. I began to give one on one classes and help aspiring producers improve their sound. 

Regarding the scenes I think Miami has a strong scene and community but NYC has way more venues and clubs to check out which I personally prefer.

As the boss of Pakate, what do you look for in new artists? What kind of talent do you seek? What qualities do you look for in aspiring producers?

I am looking for music that catches my ear immediately. There is so much music out there but we try to focus on records that move me and the dance floor. I love working with new artists that are open to the label’s feedback and are excited about working with us. It's very refreshing to see so many great artists out there!



What’s the best thing about being an affiliate with Cuttin’ Headz music and what’s the biggest thing you’ve learned from working with the team?

It’s about hard work and family vibes with Cuttin’ Headz. We always push each other and look out after one another. We also look up to the brothers a lot and that keeps us pushing ourselves musically as much as we can.



What's the most surprising thing that has inspired your music?

When COVID happened I began to teach on a personal level with young producers. This really changed my outlook and helped me be open to new techniques and kept making me learn more and more to keep up with all the new trends. Teaching has inspired me a lot these past couple of years in Miami.



Looking back, is there anything you'd change about your career?

Not really because everything I have learned has led me to where I am now. I am truly thankful for everything that has happened to me and blessed to keep doing what I love.



If you could make music with any artist, deceased or alive, who would it be and why?

Favorite artist of all time is Michael Jackson. I would just like to be the fly on the wall while he was creating all that incredible music.



What track do you play that always gets the crowd going?

I always try to play new music in my sets but these past couple of months the Davide Mentesana EP on my label Pakate has been in heavy rotation. Toki Toki and DOC have been rocking the floor.



How do you relax and get your energy back after touring or making music?

I have an amazing gym in Miami called Anatomy that has a full spa. I hit the cold plunge and steam room every morning. That keeps me in the game.



If you weren't a DJ/producer, what job would you want to do?

Good question but tough to answer. I have always thought about music, never really given an opportunity to something else.

Spanning over two decades in the music scene, Francisco Allendes has not just mixed tracks but also blended passion, dedication, and cultural heritage into an art form that resonates on dance floors worldwide. Hailing from the breathtaking coasts of Chile and now a staple in the heart of Ibiza's music scene, Allendes has carved a niche for himself. Transitioning from classical violin training to shaking up dance floors across the globe, Allendes has earned himself the prestigious title of Best Ibiza DJ in 2019.



In this exclusive interview, Francisco Allendes takes us on a journey through his musical evolution, from his early days in a country with a nascent club scene to becoming a resident ANTS DJ at the iconic USHUAÏA. He opens up about the challenges and triumphs of his career, and his method of blending diverse musical influences, and offers a glimpse into his personal life. He shares how he maintains a balance between the rigorous demands of touring and his commitment to a sustainable lifestyle. Join us as we delve into the mind and music of Francisco Allendes.



How has your classical violin training influenced your approach to dance music production?



It was my classical training that led me into dance music production. I was struggling to find partners who would put in the same effort as me in a band, so I started looking for ways to compose and perform on my own. That’s how I found out about Cubase and VSTs and started writing music there.



What was the turning point in your career that led you to focus on house and techno?

I wanted to find a way to express myself without depending on anybody else. Sometimes the music in my mind is something I couldn't express with words to other musicians, so I was looking for something where I could own the whole creative process to have every detail as I imagined it. And this was synthesizers and electronic music.



What was the experience of winning the Best Ibiza DJ award in 2019 like for you?

It’s a memory I will always cherish with much love. I really had no idea about this until about one week before the ceremony, and I was so happy about it. I left my country, my family, and my friends to pursue my music dream in Ibiza on a path that was amazing but also many times hard and sometimes nostalgic. It was like somebody saying, "Hey, you did all this, we noticed, and we love it." 

It’s not that I need somebody to cheer me up because my life is already incredible, I live a life many would like to have, but a nice green kryptonite in my studio is a beautiful trophy that reminds me every day that dreams can come true if you push for them.



What challenges did you face when transitioning from playing in orchestras to DJing in clubs?

It was a pretty smooth change; in fact, there was a time when I was doing both. Of course, performing classical music on stage since I was a kid helped me stand behind the decks and focus on DJ'ing without getting nervous in front of people. It was something completely different in every aspect, but I enjoyed every moment of learning and becoming better at it. The big problem, which took me a few years to manage and overcome, is that when you play in an orchestra, people come to see you and they are in silence, listening to your entire concert. 

So, you can imagine how I felt that first time when I played a track that people didn't like, and the dance floor emptied. Here I realized that the approach to the performance was different and that the attention of the crowd was not guaranteed, so you had to be ready to fight for it at times and have the tools to adapt in different situations.



Can you share a memorable moment from your Fiebre Amarilla World Tour?

This was my first big tour. I organized it from Chile, not Europe, and it was the one that prepared me to move to live in Spain in some way. I have many incredible memories from this tour, like my first time playing with Luciano in Amsterdam or an amazing rooftop party in NY with the Black Market crew, but the most memorable moment was playing on Halloween in Tokyo.



What's your approach to selecting tracks for a set, and how do you read the crowd?

I've been playing records for more than 20 years now, so I have created a strong collection of timeless, dope tracks, plus I'm still listening to demos every week. I can't really explain with words how I select the tunes, but it takes me five seconds to know if a track is going to make it into my crate or not. It's the circular groove, the non-cliché vocals, the intellectual drops that catch my attention, and that's something you hear right away when you press play on a new track. 

Regarding the crowd, I never like to underestimate them, as you never know how they're going to react, even with a packed dance floor. So, I'll come a bit early to see how the vibe is, and from there, we'll see.



How has living in Ibiza influenced your musical style or career trajectory?

It has had a huge impact on both. It opened my mind, being able to listen to so many incredible artists day after day, and it still does. All the best is here, the giant classics and the uprising stars. My career also took off when I moved here since the whole world is looking at what happens here. Having the chance to express my creativity in the biggest clubs in the world is a significant push.



What's the most rewarding aspect of being a resident DJ at ANTS?

You must understand my history. I come from a country where, at that time, there was only one proper club, some events here and there, and most of the parties were between friends and a few more people. So, arriving to play at this monster venue, always sharing the booth with legends I never thought I would ever meet, let alone be friends with, and playing for a packed dancefloor where people loved my music was a big shock for me. Imagine then it worked out fine, and it lasted for 13 years and is still going on. I think this is the most rewarding experience any artist can have.





How do you balance your personal life with the demands of touring and producing?

As I told you before, I've been doing this for more than 20 years. So, around the middle of this time, I looked at myself in the mirror and said: "Francisco, if you want to make this last, we have to find a way to live a sustainable lifestyle." So, I started going to the gym every day to get strong for the flights and the gigs. 



Also, I adopted a mindset to be grounded, to be conscious every day of reality, as many of the problems in this job come from the mind and management of thoughts. So, during the week, I have a quite disciplined schedule, and on the weekends, I'm a bit freer on what to do. But on Monday at 7 a.m., we must stand up no matter what.



What’s one venue or festival you dream of playing at in the future?

I want to play at Universo Paralelo in Brazil.



If you could collaborate with any artist, across any genre, who would it be and why?

Roger Waters, my biggest musical influence.



Outside of music, what are your hobbies or interests?

I love food, and I love CrossFit, so I have a balance between both. Last year I felt I became a little dumber, so this year I started reading again to train my brain. I'm reading two books a month (that’s the goal, lol).



If you could travel back in time to any musical era, when would it be and why?

I would fly back to 1973 to see the debut of The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. This album has been the most important record in my life. I have been listening to it since I was 14, and it has been a teacher for me. Even today, I still learn from it every time I listen to it.



Finally, if you weren’t a DJ/producer, what career path do you think you would have pursued?

I think I would have applied to be an astronaut.

When you hear certain names in the music scene, you instantly get a vibe about their style and think, "Yeah, they're sick." Whether they're tearing it up in the underground or hitting stages worldwide, some artists just have that standout factor. In the world of house music, Liverpool's SOSA is one such name, known for his tasteful tracks and lethal production skills.

In our exclusive interview, SOSA, or Jay Bradford, shares his journey from discovering FL Studio at 14 to being the head huncho of his label and party, COCO. His approach to music and label curation is instinctual, focusing on the vibe and quality of the tracks rather than adhering to a specific sound or genre.

What initially drew you to the music scene, and how has your Liverpool upbringing influenced your sound?

I think what initially drew me to music, especially dance music, was when Swedish house mafia released “One”. I wasn’t the biggest music listener before that but I can remember vividly being on holiday from school staying up super late and the music video was on repeat on MTV. 



Can you describe the moment you realized music production was your calling?

A friend showed me FL Studio when I was about 14 years old, and I was instantly hooked. I can remember sitting up for days making noises that sounded terrible but didn’t get bored once. I don’t think I’ve looked back since. 



What has been the most challenging aspect of establishing your own record label and party, COCO?

The hardest part I think is actually curating line ups for the party’s. The main thing I wanted for COCO was for it to be its own entity and to try and showcase people whose music I love. It’s been going great so far so I’m very happy.



How do you select artists for your label, and what qualities do you look for?

There’s no selection process really, if the music is good then it’s good. I test it in my sets and then if I feel it’s right I try to sign it.



How do you maintain a balance between producing music and performing live? What’s life like when you’re not touring?

This has been the most difficult for me. Weirdly, before I was touring I used to make music everywhere I could and it wouldn’t matter. Now I struggle to make anything on the road, and also when I get home it’s tough to get back in routine and find the time. When I’m home I’m usually spending time with my family, fitting the studio, and gym in between when I can.



What has been your most memorable performance to date and why? What’s a bucket list venue you want to play?

Tough one! It has to be the last few Creamfields I’ve done for sure. I think it’s always special because I grew up two minutes away from the original festival site. It’s basically a huge hometown gig for me and the sheer volume of people at all my sets there has been unbelievable.

What's the story behind your collaboration with Cloonee on "Weeping Willow"?

Me and Cloonee have spoken for years but over the last few years we’ve really connected so it was a no brainer. I was doing a tour in the states and flew to LA for a few days so we could lay some stuff down and Weeping Willow was the outcome.



How do you feel your sound has evolved since your first release?

To be really honest I don’t feel like I have a “sound”. I’ve struggled with this for years trying to make something stick but sometimes I actually think it’s a good thing. I don’t have any songs that sound similar to the last.



Are there any genres outside of house that influence your music? If you could dive into any other genre for your music career, what would it be?

I’m a massive hip-hop fan so I would have to say that.



Did you have any mentor or role model during your rise in the industry?

There’s a few to mention here. From the start, I was a huge Solid Grooves fan so I’m going to say inspirations were/are PAWSA and Michael Bibi for sure. Another huge inspiration for me is Solomun.



If you were to suggest the ultimate club experience for someone new to minimal or tech house music, which country and club would you recommend for an authentic and unforgettable introduction to this experience?

So many to choose from but one of the first that comes to mind for me is Fabric in London. It’s a real institute and I think it’s a great place to hear new music.



What can fans expect from your upcoming projects or releases in 2024?

I’m just trying to have fun this year and make music that I like myself. It’s going to be a mixture of all kinds.



Outside of music, what are your passions or hobbies?

Music is basically my hobby that I’ve luckily been able to do full time so I basically just do that hahah.



If you could collaborate with any artist, living or deceased, who would it be?

I would love to do a song with Travis Scott and dance music wise PAWSA.
