Ibiza wasn’t always the playground of millionaires and celebrities. Back in the 1970s, it felt more like a carefree haven than a luxury hotspot. The club scene started with an open-door feel, with a blend of laid-back freedom and creative energy. You’d find hippies, travelers, artists, and a few well-connected socialites all in the same place, dancing together under the warm Mediterranean sky. Nobody cared what you wore or where you came from. It was raw, spontaneous, and unpolished - the kind of vibe that didn’t need velvet ropes or VIP lists.



Over time, that spirit has been repackaged into something flashier, but the roots are still always about connection, rhythm, and the kind of nights that feel endless.



Pacha, Ibiza’s iconic nightclub established in 1973, subtly introduced what could be considered Ibiza’s earliest form of VIP culture - a small section reserved for friends and special guests of the club's owners. This early VIP experience was far from today's extravagance, based purely on personal connections rather than purchasing power. Celebrities like Mick Jagger and Bob Marley frequented these clubs, but their experiences were famously integrated rather than separated from everyday club-goers.





Throughout the late '70s and '80s, clubs such as Ku (now UNVRS) and the legendary Pikes Hotel embraced flamboyance and exclusivity in their own right, albeit privately. Ku hosted spectacular events with performances by stars like Grace Jones, while Pikes Hotel’s notorious parties, including Freddie Mercury’s 41st birthday in 1987, hinted at VIP decadence with lavish private celebrations and extravagant champagne-soaked indulgences. Yet, notably, these experiences remained invitation-only, distinctly different from today's commodified VIP table service.



The 1990s ushered in Ibiza’s golden "Superclub Era," defined by massive venues like Amnesia, Space, and Privilege. Despite their enormity, the culture remained predominantly democratic. The dancefloor was king, and DJs were the draw, rather than exclusive VIP experiences. Although clubs like Pacha continued hosting occasional celebrities in understated VIP areas, VIP culture was minimal and understated, essentially providing quiet corners for a select few rather than lavish, purchasable tables. Club nights such as Cream, Manumission, and Ministry of Sound dominated this era, focusing strongly on communal energy and music-centric experiences.





The real shift began in the early 2000s as global clubbing became increasingly commercialized and Ibiza began attracting a wealthier demographic. Superclubs, especially Pacha, recognized an emerging market of affluent tourists and industry elites prepared to pay premium prices for special privileges. Inspired by trends already booming in nightlife capitals like New York and Paris, Ibiza clubs embraced the concept of "bottle service" - where purchasing high-priced bottles of premium alcohol secured patrons exclusive tables and personalized service.



Pacha spearheaded this transition, developing significant areas of the club specifically designed for VIP bottle service. Other major clubs quickly followed suit. By mid-2000s, Amnesia, Privilege, and even traditionally less VIP-oriented clubs were incorporating and expanding dedicated bottle service areas. However, early adoption was tentative - initial VIP areas frequently catered to older clientele seeking respite from crowded dancefloors, rather than younger club-goers who still preferred communal dancing experiences.



The 2010s marked the definitive explosion of VIP culture and bottle service in Ibiza, propelled by the island's deliberate move toward luxury tourism and celebrity endorsement. Ushuaïa Ibiza, opening in 2011, embodied this new era - an upscale club-hotel explicitly catering to high-end VIP clientele with poolside tables, elaborate champagne rituals, and extravagant stage-side seating.





Celebrity appearances and residencies also played a crucial role in glamorizing and normalizing VIP culture. High-profile figures like Paris Hilton, whose DJ residency at Amnesia brought significant media attention, helped transform the perception of Ibiza into an exclusive playground for the global elite. Social media accelerated this transformation, creating a generation eager to showcase their VIP experiences online.



Financially, clubs discovered bottle service and VIP tables were hugely profitable. Prices skyrocketed, with prime VIP tables in venues such as Pacha commanding minimum spends in the thousands of euros. By the late 2010s and early 2020s, this luxury market dominated Ibiza's nightlife economy, with private jet arrivals reaching unprecedented levels as the ultra-rich flocked to the island to experience its exclusive nightlife.



Today, Ibiza’s club scene reflects this dual identity - maintaining its roots as a global dance music destination while fully embracing its modern image as a high-end luxury party hub. The island’s nightlife is now stratified across multiple tiers of VIP, ranging from standard bottle service tables to ultra-exclusive secret areas accessible only to a select few.





Yet, this transition has sparked significant debate. Influential figures within the Ibiza community, including renowned DJs Carl Cox and David Morales, express concerns about the emphasis on exclusivity potentially compromising the island’s original inclusive ethos. Critics argue that excessive VIP segmentation risks stifling creativity and limiting opportunities for emerging talent.



Balancing this, venues like DC-10 proudly uphold an underground spirit by explicitly rejecting bottle service and VIP booths, remaining true to the island’s original, more democratic vision. Additionally, nights like Pacha’s iconic Flower Power continue to celebrate Ibiza’s communal spirit, bringing diverse crowds together on a single dancefloor reminiscent of earlier times.



Ultimately, the emergence and evolution of VIP and bottle service culture in Ibiza reflect broader global trends in nightlife entertainment and luxury tourism. What began modestly in Pacha’s private corners in the 1970s evolved significantly through commercialization in the 2000s and exploded in the luxury-driven 2010s. Ibiza today is both a place for mass celebration and elite exclusivity, embodying the tensions and triumphs of modern club culture.

The Origins of the VIP Culture in Ibiza: When Did Bottle Service Begin?

In this series, we spotlight up-and-coming collectives who are paving their own way while driving underground culture forward.


EQ50 came from necessity. The founders understood they needed to carve a space within drum & bass culture specifically for women, and that’s exactly what they did in 2018. EQ5 is rewriting the rules of Jungle and D&B by platforming the people historically excluded from it.




Since their launch, there has been a noticeable shift. UK line-ups that used to be male-dominated are now far more diverse, and it’s fair to say we have EQ50 to thank for that.




Born from Experience

Formed in 2018 by female pioneers in jungle and D&B, EQ50’s mission is to tackle the gender imbalance that has always plagued the genre. Founding members include industry titans Mantra, Flight, Sweetpea, MC Chickaboo, and DJ Storm, all names that carry serious weight and are responsible for shaping the sound of D&B as we know it.




Mantra is the co-founder of label and cub night Rupture London; MC Chickaboo is the first female jungle MC, DJ Storm is known as one of the most influential DJs within D&B, and Flight is an award-winning DJ, broadcaster, and radio producer, with over 25 years experience in the industry.




Mentoring the Next Generation




So with this lot at the helm, it’s no wonder EQ50 is flying, and one of their most significant contributions is their mentoring program. They launched it in 2020, right in the midst of COVID-19 and an interesting time for D&B. With young people stuck in lockdown, they had time to learn how to produce D&B, and live streams became a new source of community.

Plenty of women started producing during this time, and to help them on their way EQ50 launched their program with the aim of helping them release music. That’s why they partnered with top labels like Critical Music, Hospital Records, Shogun Audio, and Ram Records.




Each year, EQ50 selects a group of women and non-binary producers and DJ mentees and pairs them up with industry mentors. The year-long scheme offers one-on-one guidance, production feedback, business advice, and networking opportunities that can open doors in an industry that’s often hard to break into.




They’ve had tons of success stories, including ANIKONIK, Nicky B, Sequent, Pod Imiya, Artemis, and Mandidextrous, all of whom released on some of the biggest D&B labels in the world thanks to this program.




For the mentees, the impact can be transformative. They learn more than just technical skills, they build the confidence and connections needed for a successful career – and it benefits the entire scene with fresh voices and new sounds.




More than Mentorship




EQ50’s work doesn’t stop at mentoring. The collective hosts panels, workshops, and talks at festivals and conferences, sparking important conversations about diversity and inclusion. These events provide a space for honest dialogue about the challenges faced by underrepresented artists, the importance of safer spaces at gigs, and what promoters, labels, and fans can do to support positive change.




EQ50 also pushes for accountability. It’s not enough to talk about equality; the collective encourages labels and promoters to take a hard look at their own practices. Who are they booking? Who’s on their roster? Who’s behind the scenes making decisions? And crucially — what steps are being taken to improve?




An Evolving Scene




In the past few years, things have slowly changed. More promoters are diversifying their line-ups, more festivals are setting targets for gender balance, and more labels are actively seeking out talent from underrepresented backgrounds. While there’s still plenty of work to do, there’s no doubt that EQ50’s efforts have been instrumental in driving this progress.




What makes EQ50 particularly effective is its collaborative spirit. Rather than positioning itself as the sole voice for change, they work alongside other initiatives, like Sisu Crew and Foundation FM. The idea is to strengthen the entire ecosystem so that real, sustainable change can happen.




The Future of Drum & Bass




And that change isn’t just good for representation, it’s good for the music. A more inclusive scene means more perspectives, more innovation, and a richer, more vibrant sound. Without diverse voices, music scenes get stagnant and stop evolving.




EQ50 is keeping inclusivity at the heart of its ethos. Their work serves as a reminder that equality isn’t just about numbers on a lineup but creating a culture where everyone has the opportunity to be heard.

Collective Spotlight: EQ50

Over the past few years, Gaskin has firmly become someone you can’t miss in our beloved house scene. Coming from the North East of England near Newcastle, he grew up soaking in the sounds of Patrick Topping and Hot Creations, and that early spark pulled him straight into the club world. After catching the bug at The Cut in Newcastle, he dove in headfirst — hitting parties every weekend before eventually moving to Ibiza for a season.

In the last few years, Gaskin has built serious momentum, dropping tracks on labels like Up The Stuss, Eastenderz, Solid Grooves, PIV, Locus, and Caposile Music. His own label, Bass Jamz, has also taken off, thanks in part to his weapon of a release “Dirty Mindz” and a steady run of well-received parties. He’s been stacking lineups that mix rising talent with established heavy-hitters like Archie Hamilton, Ozzie Guven, Obskür, Locklead, and Robbie Doherty, hosting events everywhere from Amsterdam and Ibiza to Leeds and beyond.



The last couple of years has been huge for him, with sets at places like Amnesia Ibiza, Creamfields, and Hide & Seek Festival, as well as a special Bass Jamz show at 528 Ibiza that felt like a full-circle moment. Despite the rapid rise, he stays laid-back and focused on keeping it real — not overthinking, not trying to fit into any box.

In this interview, Gaskin talks about everything from favorite club memories and label lessons to his favorite pasta and post-set food cravings. It's a genuine look at an artist who clearly loves what he’s doing and doesn’t take himself too seriously. 



What’s one track that never leaves your USB these days?


One to One – All the People Dancing (People’s Mix).



Do you remember the first party or club night that made you think, “Yeah, I want to do this”?


The first ever event I walked into was The Cut in Newcastle and Theo Kottis was playing. I just remember falling in love with it straight away. I went to an event every weekend after that for about five years before moving to Ibiza to do a season.



How has growing up near Newcastle shaped your ear or attitude toward music?


Being a big fan of Patrick Topping as a kid, I was massively influenced by that early Hot Creations sound and always wanted to push to be doing parties like Paradise, Motion, Kaluki, elrow, etc.



What first got you into this scene?


After going to our first ever event, we got back to Lundy’s house after and watched the film The Weekender three times. We were massively influenced by the old-school ’90s rave scene, and that’s when we came up with the idea of throwing our own parties.



Bass Jamz has taken off quickly — what’s been the most unexpected part of running your own label?


It may look like it’s taken off quickly, but no one sees what goes on behind closed doors to get to where we are. It’s been eight years of non-stop work, putting ideas together, DJing to empty dance floors, getting turned down by big venues, labels, and DJs. Our sound didn’t form overnight; it was years of back and forth between the residents, and luckily it just clicked for us one day.



How do you know when a track is ready to send off to a label versus keeping it for yourself?


I have a handful of other DJs I send it to, to test out, and if it gets a good reaction then I push that one a lot on socials. Often, labels end up coming to you. Building a good relationship with label owners is important also for new producers — putting your face to a name is one of the most important things.



Do you produce with the dancefloor in mind or do you follow instinct and see where it lands?


I always imagine certain clubs/places when I’m producing, yeah, and also certain moments in my set — whether it’s a track made to create a moment mid-set or a track for a peak time set to build the energy.



You've released on a range of labels. What draws you to a label when considering where to send music?


I like to make all different types of music and try to keep my sound open to release on any label really. I find once you start thinking your music is ‘too cool’ for certain labels, that’s when you’re isolating yourself to only play for certain parties, and in the long run, it will affect your career and slow you down.



What’s been your favorite set to play so far this year and why?


Bass Jamz Ibiza at 528 was a special one, as it’s the venue we used to go to in our first season in Ibiza in 2018. Such a special day with our full crew!



Favorite artist at the moment? Any underrated artist you’ve been keeping an eye on?


Wildish, one of our residents, is making moves behind closed doors and is one of my favourite DJs, so I can’t wait to see what comes for him over the next year.



As someone moving fast in the scene, how do you stay grounded?


Don’t get caught up in the scene — just remember the initial reason why you’re doing what you’re doing and don’t compare your journey to anyone. For me, I’m just always myself so it doesn’t even cross my mind about staying grounded, to be honest. I feel like the same person I was before I started touring, but I just worked hard to be able to do it full time. I feel like if anyone wanted it hard enough, they could do it — just have to put the work in.



Have you picked up anything surprising or useful from the artists or scenes in Ibiza, Barcelona, or other spots you've played recently?


Just be sound to everyone you meet, as you never know when someone could help you out or do something to benefit your career. The artists that work together and have good teams around them always do the best.



Can you tease anything about the upcoming releases you’re excited about?


Mine and Ben Hemsley’s track “If Your Girl” is nearly all cleared to get released. This is one of my most asked-about tracks, so I can’t wait to get this one out.



Do you think the UK scene still has a certain energy that’s different from the rest of Europe?


In my opinion, the UK scene is at the best it’s been since the early Hot Creations days. I feel like two years ago there were a lot of complaints with everyone getting their phones out, but I think we’re past that stage now. The music that is being released is the best it’s ever been, so everyone is loving it, and you can see more people just there for the music rather than just getting videos.



If you weren’t doing music, where do you think you’d be right now?


I would have definitely liked to move abroad, maybe to Australia or something, for a few years if I wasn’t touring so much!



What club or festival would you suggest for a first-timer to truly immerse themselves in the house music culture?


The Loft, Manchester! No vibe like it. Or After Caposile in Italy for the outdoor summer parties — they’re special!



What’s a production mistake you made early on that taught you something valuable?


Don’t make music to fit certain sounds; just make what you love, even if it’s not the “in sound,” as that’s when you will progress most and your music will end up more special.



If your music had to be described as a type of pasta, what would it be?


Tortelloni, as people always ask how I add so much feeling to my tracks, but it’s because of the special ingredients that come from the inside that make them so special haha.



What’s one thing about the nightlife world that still cracks you up?


The way TikTok has influenced a lot of the new generation of ravers.



What’s your go-to post-set snack or ritual?


Love all food — I literally don’t think I could narrow this one down.

This Week’s Parties in Ibiza (3 - 9 July)

In our City Beats series, we explore underground scenes in cities worldwide, both past and present. This week, we’ll deep dive into Kyoto’s rave scene, the artists behind it, and their mission to save their most cherished underground venue.



History of Kyoto Rave



Kyoto’s history of raving dates back to the ‘90s, when a club called Metro opened its doors and welcomed international DJs and local talent like Mondo Grosso and Kyoto Jazz Massive. Kyoto’s underground scene has always championed artistic innovation, and today it’s well known for its diverse mix of vinyl-only nights, experimental collectives, penchant for house and UK Garage, and incredible mountain festivals like Star Festival.


Rooted in DIY culture and net-label communities, venues like LAB.TRIBE, West Harlem, and Soto act as the spiritual homes for the city’s artists and dancers.



But clubbing in Japan is also a form of resistance. In 1948, the government introduced a controversial law known as the "dance ban" or Fūeihō. It regulated entertainment businesses, especially those related to nightlife, and effectively banned dancing in clubs without a special license. Despite this, Kyoto’s nightlife is vibrant, fusing high energy dance music, a strong sense of community, and experimentation into one vibrant cultural movement.



Kyoto's Rave Scene Rallies for its Future



One of the clubs that’s most synonymous with Kyoto’s rave scene is West Harlem. Tucked alongside the tranquil Kamogawa River in Kyoto’s historic Pontocho district, West Harlem is far more than a club – it’s home to the city’s underground scene. Over a decade, this club has nurtured Kyoto’s community of local talent and welcomed international innovators, all united by a passion for high-quality sound and forward-thinking music. Now, West Harlem is calling on its global community to help secure its next chapter.




A Decade of Dance




Founded in 2013 in the basement of Shijo-Kawaramachi, West Harlem quickly earned a cult following for its warm, bass-rich audio and eclectic programming. From dub and reggae to techno and house, the club has always embraced the full spectrum of dance music and has become famous for its “Supreme Sound System.”




In 2023, they relocated to a picturesque riverside spot, which brought even more possibilities with a larger space, scenic views, and a bigger stage to push boundaries.




To celebrate their 10th anniversary this year, West Harlem dropped a powerful compilation of tracks by artists who’ve helped define their sound. They plan to use any money raised from this compilation to install advanced soundproofing, so they can fully unleash the power of their upgraded Saiko-Onkyo Sound System without disturbing the local neighborhood.




A Soundtrack to the Scene




The West Harlem Compilation is available exclusively on Bandcamp, and features over 35 tracks. It’s a meticulously curated journey through the club’s sonic history, mixed and mastered by Kyoto’s very own Stones Taro of NC4K, and spanning multiple genres. Let’s take a look at some of the artists featured on the compilation, and how they became mainstays of the Kyoto scene.




Stones Taro – One of the defining names in Kyoto’s underground, Stones Taro blends UK garage, house, and breakbeat with a distinct edge. As both a producer and the mastering engineer for the compilation, he credits West Harlem for launching his career, and providing a space for him to hone his sound.

City Beats: Kyoto

Ibiza, famed worldwide as the epicenter of club culture, has seen countless iconic venues come and go over the decades. Behind today’s celebrated venues like Hï, Amnesia, Pacha, or DC-10 lie the faded echoes of clubs that once defined eras, hosted legendary performances, and ultimately closed their doors or transformed into something new.



The 1980s marked the beginning of Ibiza’s global fame, characterized by open-air extravaganzas and unmatched freedom. At the forefront was Club Ku, which opened in 1979 in San Rafael. Known as the Mediterranean's answer to Studio 54, Ku became synonymous with a hedonistic spirit and celebrity-studded parties featuring Grace Jones, Freddie Mercury, and Divine. At its height, Ku drew crowds of 10,000 around its giant swimming pool and stage, hosting performances by James Brown and Duran Duran. Yet, as Ibiza’s popularity grew, stricter noise regulations forced open-air clubs to enclose their dancefloors. Ku was transformed into Privilege in 1995, famously becoming home to Manumission, an extravagant party renowned for its wild theatrics and legendary DJ residencies including Tiësto and Armin van Buuren.





As the clubbing scene evolved in the '90s, another significant venue emerged near Ibiza’s airport - Space Ibiza. Initially a modest conference hall, Space found its rhythm by becoming Ibiza’s premier after-hours venue, opening its doors as other clubs closed theirs. British DJs Alex P and Brandon Block were early residents who shaped its distinctive vibe, turning daytime partying into a global phenomenon. Its famed open-air terrace became legendary, with clubbers dancing beneath passing airplanes. Despite thriving for decades and becoming a pilgrimage site for clubbers worldwide, Space closed in 2016. It was replaced by Hï Ibiza, signaling a shift toward more polished, luxury-focused nightlife.





Meanwhile, Ibiza Town had its boutique glamour spot in El Divino, which opened in 1992. This intimate club with panoramic views across the marina to the historic Dalt Vila hosted renowned residencies from Defected Records, Hed Kandi, and DJ Roger Sanchez. El Divino attracted sophisticated crowds and globally acclaimed DJs such as Frankie Knuckles and David Morales. However, competition from nearby mega-club Pacha eventually spelled its downfall. El Divino closed in 2008, making way for Lío, an upscale cabaret restaurant and nightclub by the Pacha Group, highlighting the constant evolution of Ibiza nightlife.





San Antonio, Ibiza’s clubbing hotspot for British tourists, experienced its own transformations. Star Club became Club Kaos in the early '90s before ultimately rebranding as Eden in 1999. Eden gained international fame, notably through Judge Jules’ Judgement Sunday residency, solidifying its presence among Ibiza’s major venues. Nearby, Summum briefly shone in the early '90s, a stylish club featuring lavish décor and big-name DJs like Danny Rampling and Nicky Holloway, before eventually fading into obscurity by the mid-90s.



Not every club enjoyed longevity; some lived short but impactful lives. Booom! Ibiza burst onto the scene in 2013 with great promise, drawing major residencies such as Defected Records and performances by house legend Frankie Knuckles. Yet internal disputes saw its closure by 2014, becoming another short-lived chapter in Ibiza’s complex clubbing history.



Sankeys Ibiza, opened in 2011, successfully brought Manchester’s underground music spirit to the island, hosting popular nights like Viva Warriors with Steve Lawler and Tribal Sessions. However, financial pressures forced its closure in 2018. The venue quickly reopened as Octan, continuing the underground legacy, albeit under a different name. Nowadays it’s known as Avyca and still keeps the underground scene alive.





A massive turning point came when Privilege, the massive successor to Ku and once the world’s largest club, closed its doors after the 2019 season due to licensing issues compounded by COVID-19 disruptions. It had hosted everything from the hedonistic Manumission to Radio 1’s massive summer weekends. Now, the iconic space has re-opened as UNVRS, a high-tech “hyperclub” set to reinvent the legendary venue once again.





Similarly, the innovative and artistic Heart Ibiza - a unique collaboration between Cirque du Soleil and chefs the Adrià brothers - opened in 2015 to offer avant-garde nightlife combining fine dining, performance art, and electronic music. Despite critical acclaim and a devoted following, Heart succumbed to the pandemic pressures, closing after 2019. Its premises now house Club Chinois, an opulent club inspired by 1930s Shanghai glamour.





Another monumental closure that resonated deeply with clubbers worldwide was Bora Bora Beach Club in Playa d’en Bossa. Opening in 1982, Bora Bora became synonymous with the carefree, open-air Ibiza vibe. Its daytime parties featured spontaneous appearances from legends like Danny Tenaglia, David Morales, and Sister Bliss. Its closure in October 2022 marked the end of an era for Ibiza’s original beach club culture.



Today, Ibiza’s clubbing landscape remains iconic yet distinctly changed from its pioneering days. The island continues to evolve, replacing beloved venues with fresh concepts to match changing tastes and economic realities. Names like Ku, Space, El Divino, and Bora Bora evoke nostalgia among veteran clubbers, representing not merely venues, but iconic eras in Ibiza’s storied clubbing history.



These forgotten clubs may no longer physically exist, but their legacies remain deeply embedded in Ibiza’s cultural fabric. Every track dropped at today’s clubs echoes the spirit of these bygone venues, preserving their stories in the memories and music that continue to shape the White Isle.

From rooftop sunsets to sunrise terrace moments, Ibiza’s 2010–2020 decade delivered a new wave of club anthems that defined its ever-evolving sound. Whether born on the underground or blasting from the big rooms, these 20 tracks became part of the island’s DNA - soundtracking countless nights (and mornings) across the White Isle. How many of these dancefloor moments do you remember?



“Hungry for the Power” – Azari & III (Jamie Jones Remix) (2011)

– Tech House.

In the summer of 2011, this sleazy electro-house cut became an underground Ibiza anthem. First championed at DC10’s Circoloco by the likes of Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler, the Jamie Jones remix of “Hungry for the Power” had the dancefloor in a throb. Its stripped-down funk and suggestive vocal made it a Monday morning favorite - the kind of tune that would drop at 7AM and still get a full room cheering. The track was so ubiquitous in Ibiza’s underground that it tied for the island’s official Track of the Season honor in 2011. To this day, that dirty bassline instantly transports veterans back to hazy dawn moments on the DC10 terrace, are you one of them?





“Levels” – Avicii (2011)

– Progressive House.

Few tracks have had the immediate impact on Ibiza as Avicii’s “Levels” did in 2011. The song’s euphoric Etta James vocal sample and uplifting melody announced the arrival of EDM on the White Isle. Virtually every big-room DJ, from David Guetta to the Swedish House Mafia, dropped “Levels” at Pacha and Ushuaïa that summer. Clubbers belted out the “oh, sometimes” refrain in unison as confetti cannons burst overhead. “Levels” wasn’t just a global hit; in Ibiza it became a peak-time anthem that unified the superclub crowds in rapture. Its massive success paved the way for the EDM era on the island, and hearing its iconic breakdown still brings back memories of hands-in-the-air madness in 2011.





“Party Non Stop” – Pirupa (2012)

In summer 2012, no Ibiza dancefloor was safe from Pirupa’s relentless tech-house stomper “Party Non Stop.” Released on Loco Dice’s Desolat label, the track’s hypnotic loop and commanding vocal (“party non stop!”) took the island by storm. It didn’t matter if you were at an underground afterhours or a main room set - this tune would barrel in and the crowd would go absolutely wild. Marco Carola made it the unofficial anthem of his new Music On party at Amnesia, and Carl Cox even snuck it into a DC10 terrace set to drive the clubbers bananas. “Party Non Stop” was the ubiquitous banger of Ibiza 2012, even earning the coveted Track of the Season award that year.





“Don’t You Worry Child” – Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin (2012)

– Progressive House

Debuted during Swedish House Mafia’s emotional final tour, this song quickly became the sing-along anthem of Ibiza 2012. The trio performed it under the stars at Ushuaïa and other Ibiza venues, and each time the reaction was spine-tingling - thousands of voices belting “don’t you worry, don’t you worry child” in unison as lasers cut across the sky. With its soaring vocals and bittersweet melody, “Don’t You Worry Child” encapsulated the euphoria of those big-room Ibiza moments. It transcended the clubs, too – beach bars and sunset cafés were soon playing the track as well, its lyrics becoming almost a farewell love letter to the island.





“Inspector Norse” – Todd Terje (2012)

– Nu-Disco/House

Funky, joyful, and utterly infectious, “Inspector Norse” brought a dose of Scandi-disco sunshine to Ibiza in 2012. Todd Terje’s instrumental jam oozes feel-good vibes with its groovy synth melody, and Ibiza embraced it across the spectrum: daytime pool parties, sunset sets, and even main room cameos. By late summer it seemed every DJ on the island had slipped “Inspector Norse” into their set. From the Space terrace to Pacha, its bouncy arpeggiated hook would drop and suddenly everyone would be smiling. In fact, it became a staple for disco-loving DJs like Dimitri From Paris, who reportedly played it at each of his Pacha gigs that season. “Inspector Norse” proved that a quirky nu-disco tune could stand alongside the heavy club bangers as an Ibiza anthem in its own right.



“Paper Aeroplane” – Francesco Rossi (2013)

– Deep House

A sultry slice of deep house with an unforgettable guitar riff, “Paper Aeroplane” floated into Ibiza in 2013 and never left. Its gentle groove and soulful vocal sample made it a perfect late-afternoon or early-evening track – you’d hear it warming up dancefloors at Destino or as a blissful come-down on beach soundtracks. But it wasn’t just for the chill moments: DJs like Solomun and Sasha worked “Paper Aeroplane” into their peak sets, the crowd swaying along to its infectious rhythm. The track’s cross-appeal was cemented when it was crowned Track of the Season at the 2013 Ibiza DJ Awards.



“Animals” – Martin Garrix (2013) 

– Big-Room EDM

When 17-year-old Martin Garrix unleashed “Animals” in summer 2013, it spread through Ibiza’s superclubs like wildfire. The track’s minimal, thundering drop - essentially one monstrous synth riff - became the sound of the season for the EDM crowd. From Amnesia’s Cream nights to Ushuaïa day parties, every time that descending bassline kicked in, the place went absolutely berserk. “Animals” was a true crossover: underground DJs steered clear, but on the main stages it was unavoidable, a heavy-hitting thumper with a killer hook that turned into a bona fide summer anthem. Its popularity was so intense that it reportedly had some club managers jokingly “ban” DJs from overplaying it. Love it or not, “Animals” captured the rowdy, high-energy spirit of Ibiza’s big-room explosion!



“Finder” – Ninetoes (2013)

– House/Latin Tech

With a bouncy steel drum hook and irresistible groove, Ninetoes’ “Finder” became a quintessential Ibiza summer vibe in 2013. This track seemingly came out of nowhere - a relatively unknown producer from Germany - yet it quickly became the most Shazam’d song on the island that year. That tells you how often it was played: from the sun-soaked sands of Bora Bora beach to swanky lounge bars, “Finder” was everywhere. Its simple Latin-tinged melody made people smile and dance instantly. Techno titans even gave it a nod - Carl Cox famously dropped “Finder” during his Boiler Room Ibiza set, proving its universal appeal.





“Forget” – Patrick Topping (2014)

– Tech House

In 2014, Patrick Topping’s aptly titled “Forget” was literally unforgettable on Ibiza. This tech-house roller, with its shuffling bassline and earworm vocal snippet (“dance with me”), swept through clubs from DC10 to Sankeys. Every DJ in the tech-house scene had it holstered as a secret weapon, and it never failed to do damage. At Jamie Jones’ Paradise nights in DC10, “Forget” would drop and the room would erupt into a frenzy of bouncing bodies and finger-pointing approval. It even crossed over to bigger venues like Amnesia’s Terrace during Music On - a testament to its wide appeal. The track hit such heights that Patrick Topping snagged two DJ Awards in 2014, including Track of the Season for “Forget,” with the song having smashed dancefloors across Ibiza. Its success also announced Topping as a newcomer to watch.





“Walking with Elephants” – Ten Walls (2014)

A haunting trumpet melody drifting over a thumping bass - “Walking with Elephants” was unlike any other anthem in 2014, and Ibiza embraced its uniqueness. The track’s melancholic yet uplifting vibe struck a chord on the island’s more melodic dancefloors. Underground DJs like Tale Of Us and Maceo Plex championed it for its emotive power, while more commercial DJs snuck it into trance and progressive sets. The song’s impact extended beyond the island - it climbed to #6 on the UK charts - but it was especially beloved in Ibiza, where it was hailed as one of the most popular songs of summer 2014. There was a magical memory tied to this tune. “Walking with Elephants” gave Ibiza clubbers a collective goosebumps moment - a poignant, almost cinematic anthem that captured the emotional side of those Balearic nights.





“Acamar” – Frankey & Sandrino (2015)

– Deep/Progressive House

Ibiza’s 2015 season was defined by an unlikely hit: the deep, celestial sounds of “Acamar.” This track, released on the Innervisions label, is an epic eight-minute journey of melodic arpeggios and atmospheric strings that enchanted the island’s underground. You couldn’t escape it – “Acamar” was everywhere, from Dixon and Âme’s sets at Ushuaïa’s afterparties to Solomun’s Sundays at Pacha. It wasn’t a hands-up banger but rather a build-and-release odyssey that would send the dancefloor into dreamy rapture. As the season went on, its stature only grew; at the DJ Awards 2015, “Acamar” was voted Track of the Season, confirming how thoroughly it dominated Ibiza that year. When those violin-like synth notes and faint vocal coos came in, the crowd response was almost spiritual – eyes closed, heads tilted back. For many, “Acamar” was the soundtrack to countless sunrise moments on Ibiza in 2015, capturing the island’s shift toward more emotive, melodic techno in the mid-2010s.



“Lean On” – Major Lazer & DJ Snake feat. MØ (2015)

– EDM/Pop

The summer of 2015 had a global anthem that Ibiza could not resist: “Lean On.” With its dancehall-infused beat and hypnotic vocals, this track blasted from car radios, beach club speakers, and big club sound systems. While more pop than typical Ibiza anthems, “Lean On” became the season’s guilty pleasure. Headliners like Diplo (of Major Lazer) and DJ Snake dropped it during their guest sets on the island, and it always got huge reactions, uniting the commercial crowds with underground revelers taking a breather from 4/4 beats. At pool parties in Ibiza Rocks and Ocean Beach, “Lean On” was a highlight that had everyone singing MØ’s ethereal chorus (“Blow a kiss, fire a gun…”) under the afternoon sun. By the end of 2015, “Lean On” was reportedly the most streamed song ever - and on the White Isle it left an imprint as the feel-good singalong of that summer.





“Final Credits” – Midland (2016)

When it came to closing out a long night (or long morning) in Ibiza 2016, Midland’s “Final Credits” was the song DJs reached for. A glorious fusion of classic disco and modern house, “Final Credits” has a soulful looping vocal that, as soon as it hits, sends waves of joy across the dancefloor. It became an unofficial last-tune anthem in Ibiza - you’d often hear it as the sun was coming up, with clubbers hugging and singing along to that “doo-doo-doo” vocal refrain. Even at more techno-centric parties like Afterlife, the track found its way in: Tale Of Us’ crew dropped it at Space’s Terrace during the Afterlife closing, instantly spinning a room of hardened ravers into “rapid smiles” and celebratory dancing. Its appeal was universal; Ben UFO hammered it at Circoloco, The Black Madonna championed it, and by year’s end Mixmag and DJ Mag had named it the track of the year. In Ibiza terms, “Final Credits” is remembered as pure happiness in a song.





“Cola” – CamelPhat & Elderbrook (2017)

You couldn’t order a rum and cola in Ibiza 2017 without someone quipping “she sips the Coca-Cola…”. Such was the ubiquity of “Cola,” a deep-house track with a strangely addictive vocal about a mysterious woman at the bar. Released on Defected, “Cola” struck gold on the White Isle’s dancefloors and beyond. It was groovy enough for the underground (frequently spun at Defected’s own Eden residency and at Glitterbox), yet hooky enough for the mainstream - by autumn it was nominated for a Grammy. In Ibiza, “Cola” truly was the anthem of summer ’17. “Cola” also clinched the Track of the Season award at the DJ Awards, cementing its status as the island’s favorite.





“More Than You Know” – Axwell Λ Ingrosso (2017)

– EDM/Vocal House

In summer 2017, former Swedish House Mafia members Axwell and Ingrosso gifted Ibiza a massive hands-in-the-air anthem with “More Than You Know.” This track combined a catchy vocal hook with a summery guitar riff and a driving drop - tailor-made for Ibiza’s big venues. Sure enough, the duo’s residency at Ushuaïa saw “More Than You Know” as the climax of their set each week, with pyrotechnics and CO₂ cannons punctuating the song’s explosive chorus. The track’s music video was literally shot in Ibiza’s festival atmosphere, capturing the carefree party spirit it embodies. It became that year’s feel-good singalong; whether you were a seasoned clubber or a first-timer on the island, you’d find yourself humming “I just need to know…” by season’s end.





“Your Mind” – Adam Beyer & Bart Skils (2018)

– Techno

By 2018, techno was ruling Ibiza’s biggest rooms, and one track ruled them all: “Your Mind.” A collaboration on Beyer’s Drumcode label, this pounding track pairs a hypnotic synth loop with a chopped vocal commanding “you’re losing your mind.” It became the unofficial anthem of Resistance at Privilege and Carl Cox’s nights - a true peak-time techno bomb. From Amnesia’s Terrace to DC10’s cavernous Main Room, “Your Mind” united the techno tribe. Its relentless groove symbolized the power of Ibiza’s later-2010s techno wave - no nonsense, high energy, and communal. Even those who lived for house or trance couldn’t escape it; “Your Mind” crossed genre lines to dominate the island.





“Losing It” – Fisher (2018)

If one track could challenge “Your Mind” for dominance in 2018, it was Fisher’s irrepressible tech-house banger “Losing It.” Arguably the biggest crossover club hit of the late 2010s, “Losing It” had every dancefloor on Ibiza hooked from the moment that iconic trombone-like drop first landed. This was a tune you heard everywhere: at underground venues like DC10, at beach clubs, and certainly at the new superclub of the year Hï Ibiza where Fisher himself headlined. The track’s appeal was universal – its pumping bassline and the cheeky vocal sparked instant reaction. It’s no surprise the track spent weeks at #1 on global charts and snagged a Grammy nomination. In Ibiza, “Losing It” was the people’s anthem of 2018 - a track that brought a smile to hardcore underground DJs and mainstream partygoers alike, uniting them in one sweaty, euphoric, bass-face moment each time it was played.





“One Kiss” – Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa (2018)

Summer 2018 also had a lighter, pop-house anthem floating on the Balearic breeze: the irresistibly catchy “One Kiss.” Calvin Harris teamed up with Dua Lipa to deliver a modern house track with retro ’90s vibes, and Ibiza couldn’t get enough. “One Kiss” was omnipresent on the island’s airwaves and in its bars - you’d hear it drifting from café speakers in Ibiza Town and thumping on boat party sound systems alike. But it also slid surprisingly well into club sets. As the biggest global song of that year (it topped charts in 17 countries), “One Kiss” ensured Ibiza’s 2018 soundtrack had a dose of sun-kissed, vocal house bliss. The image of Dua Lipa’s sultry vocals wafting over a sunset crowd at Café Mambo remains a defining memory - proof that sometimes a straightforward, feel-good house track can capture the island’s heart as much as any underground banger.





“Joys” – Roberto Surace (2019)

Every Ibiza season has that one tune you just can’t escape - in 2019, it was undoubtedly “Joys.” A modern update of a classic disco sample (the diva vocals from Todd Terry’s “Bounce to the Beat”), “Joys” brought soulful house music back to the forefront in Ibiza’s clubs. It was championed by Marco Carola at Music On and embraced by virtually all the island’s house DJs. By mid-summer, you’d hear the “your love, it makes me feel” hook echo at DC10, Defected at Eden, Glitterbox at Hï - basically anywhere with a dancefloor. It also crossed over beyond the island, becoming one of the biggest house hits of the year. For clubbers in Ibiza, though, “Joys” is forever tied to that summer’s memory.





“Piece Of Your Heart” – Meduza feat. Goodboys (2019)

– Vocal House

Riding in at the tail end of the decade was a track that perfectly captured Ibiza’s love affair with vocal house: Meduza’s “Piece Of Your Heart.” Debuting in 2019, this tune by an Italian trio combined a chunky bassline, a ridiculously catchy chopped vocal hook and a big singalong chorus. It quickly shot to #1 in the UK and all over Europe, and in Ibiza you could practically feel it vibrating through the cobblestone streets. From big clubs to beach lounges, “Piece Of Your Heart” was everywhere. The track’s success heralded a new wave of melodic, vocal-driven house that Ibiza fully embraced going into 2020. It’s a fitting capstone to the 2010–2020 era - a song born from the underground spirit but with massive mainstream appeal, thriving in Ibiza’s unique melting pot of music and leaving an indelible mark on the island’s soundscape.





Each of these tracks, in its own way, captured the spirit of its time on the White Isle. LONDON, UK — On what was otherwise a regular Tuesday in East London, ROSSI. transformed a hidden tunnel into a full-blown rave—echoing the spirit of a 90s illegal party: no lineup announcement, no promo run, just raw sound, word of mouth, and bodies in motion. All it took was one message.

That message came through Backstage with Rossi., his private Instagram broadcast channel, where he quietly dropped the location for the “High On Me” launch party just hours before it kicked off. By sundown, Shoreditch Tunnel was packed wall to wall.

This wasn’t an ad. It was an invitation—and it sparked one of the most memorable DIY parties London has seen in recent memory.



As the sun dipped behind the skyline, crowds began forming under the aged brick arches of Shoreditch Tunnel. The space—graffiti-coated and soaked in decades of East London grit—quickly turned into a pulsing corridor of sound and movement. No stage barriers. No VIP sections. Just people, everywhere.



A Funktion-One rig blasted from the back of a fire-red G-Wagon, with ROSSI. perched on the roof, grinning behind the decks (shoutout to @escapisteprojects). Every surface—walls, lampposts, even the vehicle itself—was flanked by phones in the air, hands reaching up, and bodies dancing in rhythm. Someone climbed onto a friend’s shoulders, white dress glowing under the scattered tunnel lights. The energy was explosive, raw, and magnetic.

This Week’s Parties in Ibiza (Jun 19 - 25)

Ibiza isn’t just a sunny island with clear waters and flashy clubs. It’s a kind of home base for a group of DJs who keep coming back summer after summer. The kind of artists that have shaped the island’s whole vibe. The tracks they play become the season’s soundtrack, something you hear spilling out of beach bars in the afternoon and echoing through packed dance floors at night. For them - and the people like us who show up every year - it’s a ritual, a place where music, memory, and community blend into something lasting.



Among these stalwarts is Carl Cox, often affectionately termed Ibiza’s "King of Techno." From 2001 to 2016, Cox held court at Space Ibiza with his iconic residency, "Music Is Revolution." With his exuberant "Oh yes, oh yes!" rallying cry and three-deck wizardry, Carl’s Tuesday nights became the heart of Ibiza’s electronic heartbeat. When Space closed in 2016, Cox’s tearful farewell became a poignant symbol of the island’s evolving club scene. However, the island is lucky enough to have him back in 2025 with his own residency at new Hyperclub, UNVRS.





Similarly impactful is German techno titan Sven Väth, whose Cocoon residency at Amnesia Ibiza transformed Mondays into an essential pilgrimage for techno lovers from 1999 onwards. Väth, known for his vinyl-only sets, championed uncompromising techno, nurturing global talents like Ricardo Villalobos and Richie Hawtin, and firmly establishing Cocoon’s two-decade legacy of underground excellence. You can still see Papa Sven to this day playing his curated residency at Akasha, as well as select dates as guests at other events across the island.





Few DJs have merged commercial success and island authenticity as seamlessly as David Guetta. Since debuting his F*** Me I’m Famous! nights at Pacha in 2003, Guetta has continuously reinvented his high-energy sets, later expanding to Ushuaïa and Hï Ibiza. Today, his presence remains as magnetic as ever, with 2 residencies (in Hï and UNVRS) proving that Ibiza’s club culture can thrive amidst pop-infused glamour without losing its soul.





Pete Tong’s Ibiza story mirrors the rise of house music itself. His Pure Pacha nights, launched in 2003, reflected his eclectic taste and foresight, drawing both dedicated clubbers and curious newcomers. Tong’s Friday residency became a cornerstone of Ibiza nightlife, showcasing emerging talent and broadcasting the island’s magic to the world via his BBC Radio 1 show, solidifying his position as a respected elder statesman of Ibiza’s music scene.



Equally notable is the late Erick Morillo, whose Subliminal Sessions residency at Pacha defined Ibiza’s mid-week party scene from the early 2000s through 12 electrifying summers. Known for his marathon sets and celebratory charisma, Morillo’s impact lingered long after the last beat, reminding everyone that true DJing is as much about personality as it is about technical prowess.





Judge Jules is another Ibiza icon whose Judgement Sundays at Eden became synonymous with San Antonio’s clubbing spirit. From the late 1990s through the 2010s, Jules maintained a loyal following, making Sundays at Eden a ritual for trance and house enthusiasts. His dedication highlighted how consistent passion could foster a uniquely devoted fanbase.





On the softer side of Ibiza’s sonic spectrum stood José Padilla, the revered "Godfather of Chill-out," whose sunset sessions at Café del Mar in the '90s created an entirely new musical tradition. Padilla’s residency turned sunset watching into a ritual, blending ambient melodies with the serene beauty of Ibiza’s coastline. His legacy lives on in countless chill-out compilations and the memory of tranquil Balearic evenings.



DJ Alfredo, meanwhile, is rightfully recognized as the original architect of Ibiza’s "Balearic Beat." His residency at Amnesia in the mid-1980s broke genre boundaries, blending pop, disco, and early house to birth a sound that would inspire the UK’s acid house movement. Alfredo’s open-hearted musical philosophy deeply influenced Ibiza’s clubbing ethos, emphasizing emotion over genre purity.





At Café Mambo, Jason Bye represents quiet consistency. Starting as a resident when the café opened in 1994, Jason’s laid-back house grooves and sunset sets have soundtracked decades of visitors’ memories, solidifying his role as Ibiza’s longest-standing sunset selector.



Jon Sa Trinxa similarly embodies Ibiza’s relaxed musical spirit. For over 25 years, he has curated daytime sessions at Sa Trinxa bar on Las Salinas beach, showcasing the power of music to harmonize perfectly with nature, solidifying the idea that Ibiza’s true magic often lies beyond its clubs.





Completing this illustrious list is Jonathan Ulysses, whose 15-year tenure at Space Ibiza made him an essential figure in the club’s globally revered story. His consistent, dynamic sets showcased his mastery in navigating and enhancing Ibiza’s diverse and ever-changing crowds.



The DJs who keep coming back to Ibiza - some world-famous, others known mainly on the island - aren’t just sticking around for fame or hype. They’re the heart of what the island's music scene really stands for: showing up with love for the craft, staying true to their sound, and keeping that raw energy alive. Even as styles shift and new crowds roll in, these seasoned regulars hold the line. Same decks, same drive. Summer after summer, they return to the clubs where they made their name and keep the spirit going strong, never straying from what made the island a legend in the first place.

Ibiza’s Most Loyal Residents: DJs Who’ve Returned Year After Year

In this series, we spotlight up-and-coming collectives who are paving their own way while driving underground culture forward.




It’s 2am at Glasgow’s legendary Sub Club and drag queen Bimini Bon Boulash is behind the booth, playing hard, fast, bouncy techno to a sea of ravers. After dropping a track best described as volcanic, Bimini grabs the mic and struts into the center of the crowd. “Who wants to hear my new song?” She asks, to a response of bellows and screams. Bass pounds out the speakers as Bimini launches into their latest musical creation, fists pumping all around as they rap over a 4:4 techno beat.




This is the second time Bimini has performed for Polka Dot Disco Club, an inclusive, multi-genre event series that aims to empower FLINTA (Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-binary, Transgender, and Agender) creatives in Scotland and beyond. Since its inception in 2019, they’ve hosted techno legend Sama’ Abdulhadi, Cici, HAAi, fka.m4a, and given dozens of FLINTA artists their first opportunities to play. They’ve teamed up with HE.SHE.THEY. on two occasions, often sell out The Berkeley Suite and Sub Club, and hold regular takeovers in bars, clubs, and rooftops all over the city.




Because of the sheer volume of events, you’d be forgiven for thinking this was run by a small army. But it’s actually nurtured by just one person – Frankie Elyse, DJ, producer, and 1/2 of DJ duo Kintra.




The idea originated in Frankie’s home town of Dundee, where she and her school friend Hannah Laing, a renowned DJ and producer, would DJ at Dundee University’s Student Union. “Then they asked me if I wanted to play all night long with a few pals,” Frankie says. “I thought it would be fun to make it a girls' night, but Hannah wasn’t available, and that’s when I realized there were no other women DJs in Dundee.”




So she got to work creating some. “I asked the union if I could do a free workshop series, and they let me use their facilities for four weeks,” Frankie remembers. “I ended up teaching six women how to DJ, and we all performed at a big party at the union on International Women’s Day.”




Then lockdown hit, and Frankie moved Polka Dot Disco Club online, inviting FLINTA artists to create mixes. And just as the world emerged from COVID, she moved to Glasgow, where many of the artists she taught to DJ also lived. “I started getting more into the Glasgow scene, and then I got the opportunity to have a residency at the Berkeley Suite, and then a few months later at Sub Club as well.”




She still hosts club nights in Dundee, most recently a venue takeover at Dundee Dance Event, where she performed with her twin sister under their moniker Kintra. “It was a purely Dundee line-up which was great,” she says. “It just shows there’s way more women, Trans, and non-binary folk DJing there now.”




A lot has changed since 2019, but Polka Dot Disco Club’s mission will always be to fight for equality in dance music. “Now, the challenge is to get more LGBTQIA+ folk on the line-ups,” she says. “Polka Dot isn’t a queer night, it’s an inclusive night. In an ideal world, we won’t have labels, and everybody will have the same opportunities, but we’re not there yet, so Polka Dot exists to facilitate that.”




Although they don’t currently book cis-men, they would be happy to in the future. “We need to make it normal to go into the club and see somebody that you maybe wouldn’t have seen 20 years ago behind the decks,” she says.




Frankie herself warmed up for Bimini tonight, playing the vibrant, upbeat house music she’s become known for in the city. Polka Dot Disco Club doesn’t take itself too seriously, making sure fun and accessibility are front-center of the experience. “Deep cuts and obscure tunes are important, but it's not as headsy as other nights,” Frankie says. “It’s just about having fun –I’ve definitely played Britney Spears edits a few times.”




Fun is a fairly air-tight summary of Polka Dot Disco’s Sub Club takeover tonight, clearly demonstrated by Bimini as they dance amongst the adoring crowd. And this is exactly the energy Frankie hopes to continue in the future. “I’d like to start a record label and release music from FLINTA artists,” she says. “I’d love to run a festival one day, put on events in London, Spain, Manchester, continue to run production and DJ workshops, and just make sure music is accessible to everybody.”

This Week’s Parties in Ibiza (June 12 - 18)

Ibiza’s reputation as the ultimate party island didn’t just happen overnight. For decades now, it's drawn electronic music lovers from every corner of the globe. But beyond the massive names and legendary clubs, something more curious has been happening on its sun-drenched dance floors, unexpected back-to-back DJ sets have surprised even the most seasoned clubgoers.



Some pairings looked odd on paper. Like putting oil and water in the same bottle and expecting magic. Yet somehow, that’s often exactly what happened. One moment you’d see a techno pioneer sharing the booth with a hip-hop icon. The next, a minimal house veteran spinning tracks shoulder to shoulder with a pop celebrity trying their hand at live mixing.



There’s a kind of electricity in these moments. The crowd doesn’t know what to expect, and neither do the DJs. Some of these sets defied genres entirely, blending sounds that were never meant to meet, but did. Others felt more like social experiments, placing people from different musical worlds in the same orbit for a night.



What ties it all together? Ibiza’s open-minded spirit. The kind that says, "Let’s see what happens if..." And what happens, more often than not, is something unforgettable.



Skepta B2B Green Velvet - ANTS Opening Party, Ushuaïa (2025)



On May 3, 2025, Ushuaïa Ibiza's ANTS "Metalworks" opening party featured a B2B set between UK grime pioneer Skepta and Chicago house legend Green Velvet. Skepta, known for his contributions to grime and recent forays into house music, teamed up with Green Velvet, a stalwart of the house and techno scenes. The collaboration was unexpected, bridging distinct musical backgrounds and generations.


Despite initial skepticism, the set was a resounding success. The duo delivered a high-energy performance that seamlessly blended their unique styles, creating a memorable experience for attendees. The official ANTS recap praised the set as an "unexpected collaboration" between "two artists operating at the very height of their skills".




Idris Elba B2B MK - Wild Corner, Hï Ibiza (2019)



In 2019, actor-turned-DJ Idris Elba joined forces with renowned house producer MK for a spontaneous B2B set in Hï Ibiza's unisex restroom-turned-club space, the Wild Corner. Elba, who had been steadily building his DJ credentials, and MK, known for his chart-topping house tracks, delivered an impromptu performance that captivated the intimate crowd.



The set showcased Elba's genuine passion for electronic music and his ability to hold his own alongside seasoned professionals. It became a testament to Ibiza's embrace of unexpected musical moments and the island's penchant for turning unconventional spaces into dance floors.




Robbie Williams' Lufthaus DJ Set – 528 Ibiza (2022)



In August 2022, British pop icon Robbie Williams ventured into the DJ realm with his electronic project, Lufthaus, at 528 Ibiza. Williams, more accustomed to stadium performances, found himself behind the decks, attempting to engage the crowd in a new role.



The experience was less than stellar. Williams admitted to feeling out of place, resorting to Googling "what do garage MCs say on stage?" during the set. The audience's lukewarm response and Williams' own discomfort led him to abandon the Lufthaus project shortly thereafter. Reflecting on the event, he candidly described it as "so awkward," underscoring the challenges celebrities face when crossing into the DJ world without the requisite experience.





Ibiza's dance floors have always been something of a testing ground - a place where DJs can take risks and the crowd actually roots for it. Those back-to-back sets? They’ve become a tradition of sorts. A mix of strange pairings, wild turns, and, every now and then, a moment that just works better than it ever should have.



Sometimes the sets feel like a perfect blend - like two people finishing each other’s musical sentences. Other times, it’s more like they’re speaking different languages entirely, and not even trying to translate. You’ll catch a grime MC tossing verses over silky house beats or a pop singer nervously queuing up vinyl beside a techno veteran who’s seen it all.

This Week’s Parties in Ibiza (June 5 - 11)

By the time Sunday rolls around in Ibiza, most places in the world are winding down. But on the White Isle, it’s just another chance to go out with a bang. For decades, Sunday has been one of the most hotly contested slots on the island’s clubbing calendar - an unlikely battleground that’s seen legendary residencies, iconic closings, and some of the most defining moments in dance music history. From foam parties and marathon sets to disco anthems and techno takeovers, Sunday has evolved into Ibiza’s spiritual finale - and the fight for its dominance reveals as much about the business of clubbing as it does about the culture.



Space Sundays: Where It All Began



The mythology of Sundays in Ibiza starts, as so many things do, at Space. In the 1990s, as most clubs shut their doors by Sunday sunrise, Space flung theirs open - quite literally. The famous terrace, planes flying low overhead, became a sacred dancefloor for sun-drenched marathon sessions. By 1999, British promoter Darren Hughes formalised the vibe with We Love Sundays at Space, a 22-hour weekly institution that ran until 2014. Multi-room, multi-genre, and relentlessly international, We Love was less a party and more a ritual. “It shaped the quintessential Ibiza we know,” said one retrospective, and it’s no exaggeration. Sundays at Space defined the rhythm of the island for 17 years.





Amnesia’s Foam Legacy and Local Roots



While Space pioneered the after-hours marathon, Amnesia carved its own Sunday niche with something entirely different: La Espuma. The foam party became an Ibiza rite of passage in the ‘90s and 2000s, attracting a mix of carefree tourists and Spanish locals looking to blow off steam after a week’s work. Its frothy chaos was matched with a soundtrack that strayed from underground cool, embracing pop, reggaeton and Eurodance. It may not have been the most purist affair, but La Espuma had staying power and mass appeal, and it filled Amnesia’s Sunday slot with volume and vibes.



Amnesia also championed local talent on Sundays. Parties like People from Ibiza spotlighted Balearic DJs like DJ Pippi and César de Melero, weaving together a distinctly Ibicenco identity amidst the influx of international acts. It was a smart cultural move that tied Sunday’s celebration to the island’s own roots.





Pacha’s High-Stakes Gamble



The Sunday slot grew in prestige through the 2000s, and nowhere was the competition more visible than at Pacha. In 2010, the club handed Sundays to Luciano’s Cadenza Vagabundos, a flamboyant, Latin-infused party that brought serious underground cred to a venue often seen as VIP-centric. But it was 2013’s pivot to Solomun +1 that really changed the game. What began as a gamble - a minimal techno DJ headlining alone, backed by just one guest each week - soon redefined the venue’s identity. It married Pacha’s sleek production with Solomun’s emotional sets, creating an intimate, musical experience that proved wildly successful. Over a decade later, Solomun +1 remains one of the island’s most beloved residencies, and Pacha’s flagship night.





The Glitterbox Effect and the Rise of Hï



When Space closed in 2016, there was a gaping hole in the Sunday market. But Glitterbox was ready. Originally launched by Defected in 2014, the disco-forward brand found a permanent Sunday home at Hï Ibiza (built on the former Space site) in 2017. Its ethos - glamorous, inclusive, joyful - offered a different kind of Sunday experience. Drag queens, funky house, and flamboyant dancers created a party that felt more like Studio 54 than Berghain. It resonated. Glitterbox became a cultural statement. “Sundays just got fiercer,” the tagline went - and they did.





UNVRS and the Future of Sundays



The battle for Sunday continues into the next era with the opening of UNVRS, the new “hyperclub” from the team behind Ushuaïa and Hï. To make an impact, they’ve turned to a legend: Carl Cox. His new residency, Carl Cox: The Reunion, marks a return to Sundays for the DJ who helped define Ibiza’s golden years.



Sundays at UNVRS is something I really want Ibiza to experience



For promoters, the move is strategic - pairing nostalgia with innovation, heritage with cutting-edge tech. With UNVRS now in the mix, Sundays have once again become a key strategic battleground for branding and bragging rights.





Why Sundays Matter



So why the fixation on Sundays? From a business standpoint, Sunday captures a unique demographic: weekend warriors staying through Monday, hospitality workers on their night off, and seasoned clubbers willing to go the distance. Promoters also eye the Sunday slot for closing parties, where a strong finale can cement a brand’s legacy.



Culturally, Sunday in Ibiza has always been about celebration and release. It’s when locals mix with tourists, when artists dig deep into their record bags, and when the island’s essence of freedom, unity and excess comes alive in its most distilled form.



And so the battle rages on. Not just for the best DJs or biggest production, but for the right to own that final, magical night - a night where the island doesn’t say goodbye, but one more time.

The Battle for Sunday: How Promoters Vied for Ibiza’s Final Party Slot

Pedro Maia, better known as Mochakk, has become one of the most talked-about names in house music over the past few years — and not by accident. Born in Sorocaba, Brazil, in 1999, Mochakk’s rise from bedroom beatmaker to international festival headliner has been fast but intentional. With his signature mullet, neck tattoos, sharp mustache, chunky chain, and wraparound sunglasses, Mochakk doesn’t just show up behind the decks — he owns the room the second he steps up. Watching him perform is like watching music come alive through his body: every beat, drop, and twist synced perfectly to his movement, like the tracks are wired directly into his bones. His stage presence is a huge part of what’s turned him into a standout in the industry, especially among dance music fans drawn to his mix of wild style, nonstop energy, and next-level tracklist knowledge.

With musical DNA in hip hop, funk, disco, and rock — and early days DJing underage parties in São Paulo — he’s made a name for himself with shapeshifting sets that throw down classic house, Brazilian rap, Latin heat, and whatever else keeps the dancefloor fired up (just ask anyone who lost it when “Da Fonk” hit on Nervous Records). A viral TikTok clip of his playful, dance-fueled spirit behind the decks pushed him into the spotlight, opening doors to major bookings at Circoloco (DC-10), Sónar, Coachella, and his own headline events. But what stands out most is how Mochakk has used that momentum to build something larger — whether it’s launching his own labels (Dogghäuz and MOTRAXX), opening his Sorocaba-based club OBLIQO, or developing the Mochakk Calling party series, which has sold out across cities like New York, Miami, and Lisbon.



His projects — the two-part Locomotiva Ibiza 2099 II EP on Circoloco Records and his most recent From the Stars EP — are prime examples of his ear for sampling, while his curated parties reflect a strong sense of visual and cultural identity, influenced by his background in fashion and his love of São Paulo’s urban spark.

In this interview, Mochakk dives into his early life, masterful production methods, and the surprising (and hilarious) stories from the road — including fans dancing with fish, themed ice cream truck pop-ups, and his ambitious vision for the Mochakk Calling festival. He also teases what’s ahead for his massive June 21 takeover at Brooklyn Army Terminal, a show he’s calling the biggest Mochakk Calling party yet — promising a night for the books against one of NYC’s most iconic open-air backdrops.







What was the turning point when you realized music was going to be your full-time path?



I fell in love with electronic music when I was around fourteen or fifteen. I was already copying beats I heard in hip hop tracks I liked, then I met my friend Cesar Nardini (he’s now my partner at our label, Dogghäuz Records, and our club in Sorocaba, OBLIQO). Back then, he was throwing these underage parties at a club in our hometown, and one day he asked me to help sell tickets. 



That small favor turned into something way bigger, and before I knew it, I was DJing at the parties myself. We’d leave school early and go to the club, and they’d open it up just for us so we could practice on the equipment. 



I kept going, kept learning, just practicing nonstop. Eventually, after a few gigs, I saved up enough money to buy a mini controller and started training at home every day. I completely fell in love with it. From there, things started moving fast… and somehow, this crazy passion turned into my full-time gig.



How did launching your label Dogghäuz change your perspective on producing and releasing music?



When I moved to São Paulo, I started going out a lot. It just became natural to hit a party, hear something crazy on the dancefloor, Shazam it, then go home and dig deep into what I’d found. I was constantly absorbing new sounds and trying to blend that vibe from the nightlife into what I was producing.



Launching Dogghäuz with my best friends shifted my whole perspective. Having our own label meant I could really put my creative vision out there — not just with my own tracks, but also in building something bigger with all the DJs and producers we think are really killing it in the Brazilian scene. It gives us the freedom to shape a sound, but also the chance to spotlight artists we believe in, since the label is invite-only, whether they’re sending me demos or people we want to work with directly. It’s about creating a space where all of that can come together.



Your sound is known for its variety — classic house, Brazilian rap, and tech-house. How do you decide which direction to take for each track?



For me, the job of a DJ is to surprise people, to show them something new, to curate and share music in a way that makes them feel something different. Back in the day, DJs got booked because they brought something unique to the table, something people hadn’t heard yet. I want to hold on to that purpose because that’s what pulled me into this in the first place. 



So when I’m working on a track, the direction I take really depends on what I’m feeling, what I’ve been listening to, and what I want to express in that moment. Sometimes it leans more into classic house, sometimes it’s Brazilian rap, sometimes it’s drum and bass or funk — it’s all about the energy.



How did growing up with funk, disco, and rock influence your approach to DJing?



If you only listen to one thing, your perspective gets too limited to one box. But when you open yourself up to different genres and really pay attention to the creativity and thought behind them, your whole musical world expands. That mindset helped me build a broader rhythm vocabulary, and that’s everything when you’re DJing. 



The more grooves you understand, the more you can connect with different crowds, blend unexpected elements, and keep things fresh. All those influences are still with me, and I think they show up in the way I build sets, read energy, and create flow on the dancefloor.



Circoloco at DC-10 is a milestone for any artist. What was your first time playing there like?



My very first time on the island was in 2022 — and it’s crazy that I was there as the DJ, not even as a partygoer. Playing at a legendary spot like DC-10 was completely insane; I was super nervous, actually. It’s one of those places you dream about, and suddenly I was on the line-up alongside people I’d looked up to for years — Seth Troxler, Dixon… just unreal. That moment really hit me differently. It felt like one of those milestones where everything you’ve worked for starts to make sense.



Mochakk Calling is more than just a party — it’s a full-on experience. How hands-on are you with the creative direction of those events?



Mochakk Calling actually came from one of the guys on the team. We needed a name and a concept for a party, and “Calling” just clicked — like calling up your friends to come along. It stuck, and from there, we realized we could have a lot of fun with it. The whole theme gave us room to play, not just with visuals, but even with how we write the copy and build the vibe around each event. 



I’m super hands-on with the creative direction. I’ve always been inspired by São Paulo’s industrial energy, and that influence runs through everything — from the visuals to the scenography to the venues. It’s all connected. For me, it’s not just about throwing a party; it’s about creating a full experience that feels intentional from start to finish.



The ice cream truck pop-up in NYC was wild. How did that idea come about?



When I think of NYC, I think of food trucks everywhere, so doing an ice cream truck pop-up just felt like the perfect surprise. It was summer, the vibe was right, and it felt like the ultimate treat. It was so much fun serving ice cream, chatting with people, just creating this unexpected little moment before the party even started. 



The whole idea was to make it more than just a show. I wanted it to feel like a full experience, something people would remember not just for the music.



You’ve thrown Mochakk Calling parties in cities around the world. Which city surprised you the most with its energy?



Each city brings its own vibe, so it’s hard to pick just one, but I was definitely surprised by how loud people get in Italy. They scream during the sets just like we do in Brazil, and I wasn’t expecting that energy to match so perfectly. It felt like home in a totally different place. We also just did Mochakk Calling in Miami and Chicago, and both of those were insane. The crowd in Miami was massive, and what blew me away was how many people knew the tracks… they weren’t just dancing, they were fully locked in, reacting to every drop.



The Brooklyn Army Terminal is a massive historical space. What can fans expect from this New York edition?



The Brooklyn Army Terminal just feels like the perfect spot for Mochakk Calling NYC. It’s got that raw, urban energy — gritty, open, with a rave vibe that lets the music and visuals hit hard. NYC is such a special city for me because it reminds me the most of São Paulo. Every time I’m there, I think about jazz and hip hop influenced by jazz, the ’90s and early 2000s sound. It fits the city’s massive, concrete jungle vibe. 





That kind of music is what I listen to a lot during the week when I’m home, and I try to bring those influences into my sets there. I’m really excited for this one — it feels like it’s going to be one of the biggest Mochakk Calling parties yet. Can’t wait to see how it all comes together in NYC!



You’ve been called a “music nerd” who would have been crate-digging if it were the vinyl era. What’s the most unexpected sample you’ve worked with?



At the last Mochakk Calling NYC, I dropped this strange, trippy opera track mixed into a house beat, and surprisingly, people were totally down with the weirdness. That kind of unexpected blend is what keeps things exciting for me. I also love sampling famous speeches. For example, I’ve got this unreleased track that features an excerpt from Leonardo DiCaprio’s United Nations speech on climate change — I actually dropped that one during my Cercle set in Seville.

Using samples like that adds a whole other layer. It’s powerful and thought-provoking, and it connects the music to something bigger. That’s the kind of stuff that gets me really hyped in the studio.



You’ve spoken about chopping samples in ways that make them feel like the original idea. Can you share a recent track where that really clicked?



The lead track from my EP with Ninja Tune, “From the Stars,” really shows this approach. It samples the RAH Band’s “Messages From the Stars,” and I was blown away by how the intro has this constant upward motion — it builds and builds until the bass drops with that huge synth. 



The original, though, is way slower and has that classic ’80s beat, which sometimes doesn’t flow with the other tracks I play at my shows. So I chopped and reworked it to keep the spirit and energy intact but make it fit the vibe I want on the dancefloor. That balance of respecting the original idea while making it fresh and coherent is what really clicked for me on this one.



Your visual aesthetic, especially with Mochakk Calling, is bold and unique. How much does fashion and design influence your music projects?



Fashion and design play a huge role in my music projects, especially with Mochakk Calling. I went to fashion school and have always loved street style and playful graphics, which I bring into the merch. My goal is to create a special-edition T-shirt for every Mochakk Calling party that gives a nod to the city we’re in. For example, last year in NYC, we dropped this wild white-on-black design with a glitchy, six-armed version of me holding old phones, pagers, and computers, with “Available 24/7” printed below. 



It’s all about capturing the vibe visually. When it comes to the parties themselves, one of my favorite things is being able to fully curate the music and the visuals to fit the vibe and look of the space. The energy and visuals of the venue really influence what I play — I feel like the music has to match the space so the whole experience hits all the senses. For me, that connection between sound and style is really cool to explore.



If you could throw a Mochakk Calling party anywhere in the world, with no budget restrictions, where would it be?



Honestly, I feel like that’s already happening soon with the very first Mochakk Calling Festival in Malta! It’s this incredible chance to bring a huge selection of music for people — something for every taste, but also plenty of room to discover new sounds. The festival’s happening in Malta from July 26th and 27th. I want the focus to be less about the big-name headliners and more about those moments where you discover music that sticks with you forever. 



We’ve got an amazing lineup with DJs I listen to myself, like Honey Dijon, Mall Grab, Bonobo, DJ Swisha, HAAi, Chaos in the CBD, Seth Troxler, Dixon… and we’re also bringing some of my favorite Brazilian DJs like BADSISTA, Cesar Nardini, Jay Mariani, Pricila Diaz, RHR — on this epic island in the summer. Throwing a two-day Mochakk Calling festival, not just a party, like this in such a paradise spot feels like a dream come true.



What’s the weirdest fan interaction you’ve had so far?



I actually talked about this in a video recently — one time I was playing a club in Rio on the beach, and someone went into the ocean, grabbed a big fish, and was dancing with the fish between their legs. That was pretty crazy!




You don’t miss a beat when you perform behind the decks. Is there anything you can say about how well you feel the music? Where does your rhythm stem from?



I don’t want to box myself into being just one thing. I want to be as expansive and limitless as the music I love. When I hear a track that moves me — whether it’s making me dance, sing, or just feel something deep — I let myself fully dive into it. That connection between me and the music is the same vibe I feel from the crowd in front of me.



For me, that’s where my rhythm comes from: the passion and authenticity of really loving the music, not just playing it. It’s that vibe I want to bring every time I’m behind the decks, and it’s what I hope sparks in everyone who’s at my shows.

This Week’s Parties in Ibiza (May 29 - June 4)

Few brands in dance music boast a relationship with Ibiza as rich and enduring as Defected. From its humble beginnings at El Divino to commanding the stage at Ushuaïa and returning to the legendary Pacha, Defected’s journey on the White Isle reads like a love letter to house music. Over two decades, it has not only soundtracked countless summers but reshaped the island’s dancefloor geography - moving east to west, north to south, and always deeper into the hearts of clubbers. This is the story of Defected Ibiza: A Journey Around the Island.



The Early Days: El Divino & the Birth of a Legacy



Defected made its Ibiza debut in 2003 with a residency at El Divino, a stylish marina-side venue in Ibiza Town. Back then, Defected in the House was a young brand with big ideas - soulful house, smiling faces, and a no-nonsense music-first policy. DJs like Junior Jack, Sandy Rivera, and Dimitri from Paris set the tone, quickly winning over an audience hungry for something authentic.



The energy was intimate and focused, a far cry from the bombast of the superclubs. But that was about to change.





The Pacha Years: Glamour and Growth (2005–2012)



In 2005, Defected moved just down the road to Pacha, beginning an eight-year residency that would become the label’s spiritual home. Every Tuesday, Defected in the House delivered upfront house music to Pacha’s disco ball-lit dancefloor, redefining glamour for a new generation of clubbers. It was a golden era: Kenny Dope, Martin Solveig, Bob Sinclar, David Morales, and countless more graced the booth, while vocal anthems filled the air until sunrise.



Pacha brought a glitzy edge to Defected’s soulful roots - VIPs rubbed shoulders with dancers, and Tuesday nights earned a reputation as the night for house purists and party lovers alike. But as the club’s direction shifted in 2012, Defected made the bold move to walk away.



Reinvention at Booom! and the Birth of Glitterbox



After parting ways with Pacha, Defected landed at the short-lived Booom! Ibiza in 2013. It was here that the brand experimented and evolved. Alongside its main Saturday night events, Defected introduced Glitterbox in 2014 - a flamboyant, disco-fuelled spin-off celebrating diversity, freedom, and fierce self-expression.



Glitterbox was an instant hit. With DJs like Todd Terry, Joey Negro, and Late Nite Tuff Guy on the decks - and dancers dripping in sequins - it brought a theatrical flair to Ibiza’s dance music scene. Although Booom! closed after just two seasons, Glitterbox had taken flight.



Superclubs and Strategic Moves (2015–2016)



In 2015, Defected returned to the big stage at Amnesia, sharing Tuesday nights with Together. Hosting the legendary Terrace while Together took over the Main Room, Defected brought in acts like MK, Claptone, and Dennis Ferrer, fusing classic and tech-driven house across genres and generations.



Meanwhile, Glitterbox found its new home at Space Ibiza, bringing disco back to the iconic Playa d’en Bossa venue. But by 2016, Space was preparing to close and Defected opted to pause its Ibiza club residency to focus on launching Defected Croatia and strengthening Glitterbox.



The San Antonio Era: Back to the Dancefloor (2017–2023)



In 2017, Defected returned to Ibiza with a mission: revive San Antonio's credibility. Landing at Eden, the brand ditched VIP pretensions and doubled down on its roots - affordable tickets, no-frills production, and high-calibre house music.



The result? A roaring success. Defected at Eden became essential for island workers and international fans alike. Artists like Sam Divine, Low Steppa, Claptone, and John Summit turned Eden into a hub for new and classic house lovers. The crowd was diverse, the vibe electric, and the message clear: In our house, we are all equal.



For six seasons (2017–2019, 2022–2023), Defected helped rebrand San Antonio as more than a pre-drinks pitstop - it was once again a nightlife destination. During this time, D4 D4NCE, Defected’s newest sub-label, also launched Monday daytime parties at O Beach, giving a platform to rising talent and establishing itself as a staple on the pool party circuit.





A New Chapter: Daylight at Ushuaïa (2024)



In 2024, Defected took on its boldest Ibiza residency yet - a Tuesday daytime slot at Ushuaïa Ibiza. Trading the intimacy of Eden for open-air festival energy, this 22-week run saw titans like Disclosure, MK, Kerri Chandler, and DJ EZ ignite the dancefloor before midnight curfews brought it to a close.



The scale may have grown, but the essence remained: quality house music, world-class lineups, and a commitment to unity on the dancefloor. It was a full-sun spectacle that showed just how far the brand had come - without ever losing its soul.





2025: Coming Full Circle with Pacha



Now, in 2025, Defected is coming full circle - returning to Pacha for the first time in over a decade. Every Thursday from 8 May to 2 October, the house faithful will once again file into Ibiza Town to see legends like Masters at Work, Dennis Ferrer, The Blessed Madonna, and Groove Armada tear up the club that once defined Defected’s golden years.



It’s a moment of reflection and celebration - 25 years of house music history, unity, and evolution. A brand that started with a simple message - great music, for everyone - has now carved its name into the island’s legacy.



Defected’s Ibiza story isn’t just about residencies. It’s about redefining what a clubbing brand can be: inclusive, evolving, and unafraid to take risks. Whether under the disco balls of Pacha, the lasers of Amnesia, or the sun-soaked stage of Ushuaïa, Defected has remained true to its ethos - uniting people through house music.



Ibiza wouldn’t be the same without it.

Defected Ibiza - A Journey Around the Island

Tucked into the hills just outside San Antonio, 528 Ibiza —sister venue to the legendary Pikes Ibiza—has redefined what daytime partying looks like on the island. With its open-air layout, tiered dancefloors, and panoramic views, the venue is now one of the leading destinations for music lovers seeking high-quality, sunlit sessions. In 2025, it’s stepping even further into the spotlight with a full summer program curated by Kaluki Musik and Electric Ibiza, offering twenty-two events across Fridays and Sundays that stretch from late May through early October.



This year’s calendar is packed with label showcases and brand collaborations from across the global dance spectrum. From Richy Ahmed’s Four Thirty Two and Archie Hamilton’s Microhertz to Josh Baker’s You&Me and Max Dean’s NexUp, the schedule showcases some of the most in-demand collectives and selectors on the circuit. Kaluki returns to host multiple Fridays throughout the summer, anchoring the series with heavyweight bookings and special guest appearances. The season launches with an opening party on May 30, headlined by Ilario Alicante and Fleur Shore, setting the tone for what’s to come.

528’s programming is deliberately spread across both the underground and more established ends of the house and techno spectrum. In June, All Day I Dream returns with Lee Burridge at the helm, while July sees Hot Since 82 bring his Knee Deep In Ibiza brand to the venue. August continues to raise the stakes with a full takeover from After Caposile featuring tINI and Saoirse, followed by a late summer set of events that include NexUp and a high-profile closing party from Do Not Sleep.



What defines the 528 experience isn’t just who’s on the lineup. It’s the balance between immersive production and the freedom of being outdoors, between daytime energy and sunset atmosphere. The natural surroundings, combined with a state-of-the-art soundsystem and attention to curation, make for parties that feel thoughtful without ever being overdesigned. It’s clubbing that breathes, in a setting that invites you to stay a little longer.



While the venue now operates under a new name and programming style, long-time Ibiza goers will remember its former life as the home of The Zoo Project. That weekly gathering—famous for animal-inspired costumes, tribal face paint, and its anything-goes spirit—was once the island’s most eclectic open-air escape. In many ways, the ethos of The Zoo Project lingers in the air. Though 528 is now more refined and internationally focused, the sense of freedom, outdoor celebration, and unfiltered connection to music still runs deep.



In a landscape where daytime events are becoming just as essential as the island’s storied nightclubs, 528 Ibiza has carved out a space of its own. Its evolution mirrors that of Ibiza itself—rooted in experience, but always moving forward. With this year’s lineup and vision, 528 is no longer just a venue; it’s one of the most anticipated destinations of the summer.
