Jaden Thompson's Label Midnight Parade Extends His Sonic Footprint
After years of releasing tracks and EPs on labels like Cuttin' Headz, PIV, Three Six Zero Recordings, and Crosstown Rebels, young UK upstart Jaden Thompson wanted a home for his music that allowed him the creative freedom he found in his earliest productions. To focus his attention on building this platform, Thompson relocated from London to the Northern city of Manchester to help him zero in on his next venture. It was here that his label, Midnight Parade, was born.
Midnight Parade describes their output as "music with a groove," a phrase that suits Thompson's music to a T. Initially falling in love with hip hop, the UK producer, DJ, and tastemaker sought to emulate greats like J. Dilla with the assistance of his father's cousin, a session drummer who taught a 10-year-old Thompson how to use production software. Bringing the energy of hip hop's beats together with house has helped Thompson solidify himself as one of dance music's hottest new acts. His take on the genre has been referred to as a zesty modernization of Chicago house music, with a firmly UK vision that gives Thompson a unique twist.
Thompson debuted Midnight Parade in late 2021, with the release of "Move Your Body." Reuniting with previous collaborator Aaron Pfeiffer, "Move Your Body" is a precise encapsulation of the Jaden Thompson style through its deft weaving of multiple genres into one perfectly grooving track.
The latest release sets Jaden Thompson in a new direction, exploring different sides of house music beyond the club-ready tech house tracks he's known to whip up. "Something Else" is a more subdued addition to Thompson's catalog, again highlighting the magical connection between him and Aaron Pfeiffer in their third tune n together.
Pfeiffer's songbird vocals add an ethereal quality to the textured, airy vibe of "Something Else." Meant for closing out long nights on the dancefloor, it's a welcome left turn in Thompson's catalog—enhancing the natural versatility he's exhibited through years of marathon sets at fabric, and stints at The Warehouse Project, Extrema Outdoor in Belgium, TRMNL in Birmingham, and Classic in Italy. Midnight Parade is only just getting started, with Thompson preparing to release even more music through the label in 2023.
