Overview
Few words are more synonymous with Ibiza than Space. This iconic nightclub was founded in 1986 by Pepe Roselló and quickly became one of the most revered and influential clubs in the world.
Throughout its history, Space Ibiza played a significant role in shaping the electronic music scene on the island and beyond. The club was known for its innovative music programming, state-of-the-art sound systems, and legendary parties that often lasted well into the next day. Space Ibiza became a haven for electronic music lovers, DJs, and party goers from around the world.
Space Ibiza's influence on the island of Ibiza was profound. The club helped to establish Ibiza as a global hub for electronic music and club culture, attracting tourists and music lovers from all corners of the globe.
One of the key factors that set Space Ibiza apart was its commitment to showcasing a diverse range of electronic music genres, from house and techno to trance and minimal. The club's multiple rooms allowed for different styles of music to be played simultaneously, catering to a wide range of tastes. Space Ibiza laid a blueprint for “Mega Clubs”, but a blueprint that very few managed to follow.
Over the years, Space Ibiza hosted some of the biggest names in the industry, including Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Sasha, and many others. Space not only became famous for the venue itself but also for the brands it hosted - Carl Cox’s ‘Revolution’, Richie Hawtin’s ‘Enter’, and the legendary ‘We Love’ Sundays to name but a few.
In 2016, after 27 years of operation, Space Ibiza closed its doors, marking the end of an era in Ibiza's clubbing history. The physical club is now gone and is encompassed in Hï Ibiza.
While the physical club in Ibiza may be gone, its legacy lives on in the memories of those who experienced its legendary parties. Space Ibiza has lived on with pop-up shows in Sydney, Australia, as well as it’s latest addition, a new club Space Riccione in Italy.
A controversial brand move to San Antonio’s Eden in 2024 was followed by the removal of the brand license soon after, following an ongoing lawsuit since 2016. There has been much controversy and hearsay over who the ‘rightful’ owners are. The brand has found a temporary home at Hard Rock Ibiza with several daytime pool parties added to the calendar nodding back to the popular day parties the brand became famous for.
