Techno lady-boss Amelie Lens said it was her dream to host a residency in Ibiza. This year, she made that dream a reality. The Belgian superstar has taken her prized record label Exhale across the world. But this year, the label was given its own weekly showcase at Ibiza’s legendary DC10 nightclub.
This celebratory residency marks Exhale's debut on the island. Every Wednesday night through August, Amelie and the Exhale family bring some hard-hitting techno to the revered DC10 stages.
On August 31 for the residency’s closing party, Lens is joined by Chris Liebing, Deniro, Ellen Allien, Lokier, Or:la, Pan-pot, plus SHDW & Obscure Shape.
Amelie Lens is the face of Exhale and the owner of imprint Lenske. In 2016, she debuted with her Exhale EP on Italy’s Lyase Recordings. As a resident at Labyrinth Club in Hasselt, she began to curate her own club nights, also under the name Exhale. She has since taken Exhale experiences to festivals around the world.
Germany’s Chris Liebing is a bonafide curator, in every sense of the word. As a pioneer in European techno, he creates emphatic selects not only with his live sets, but also with his long-running imprint CLR, his radio show AM/FM, and any one of his podcasts, club nights, and talk shows.
Deniro is most noted for his emotive touch on Detriot-style techno. Thanks to his high-quality tracks–featured both on his own imprint Tape Amsterdam and other notable labels–he gets to live his humble but genuine dream of “making music and seeing people dance to it.”
When the pandemic kept techno superstar Ellen Allien from touring, she coined the Balcony Streaming sessions. Hosted from her home in Berlin, these streams allowed her to upkeep her rugged club music and give her fans the hard-hitting techno cuts she’s known best for.
Emerging from Mexico in 2014, Lokier is using her blend of industrial techno with a splash of EBM and new wave to insert herself into the European circuit. Features on Rinse FM and Red Light Radio further showcased her impressive diversity in style.
DJ, producer, and Céad label head Or:la hails from Derry, where he started off throwing raves in abandoned buildings. Now, she plays at some of the world’s most renowned clubs and festivals.
Pan-pot has made a successful career from the old adage “opposites attract.” The Berlin-duo are self-described as polar opposites, but their underground blend of house and techno seems to find that sweet spot right in the middle.
Another happily-paired duo, SHDW & Obscure Shape instead likes to operate from the “two people acting as one” vantage. With their labels, From Another Mind and Mutual Rytm, they focus on timeless cuts of house and techno that fit their vision.
