Event Recommendation
This year, the UK house and techno label Solid Grooves announced a new home for their summer Ibiza residency. For the 2022 sessions–branded Solid Grooves Motel–the collective is taking over Ibiza’s original underground club, DC-10. With the party’s original location Privilege no longer open, Solid Grooves needed a new spot to party. Now, the 17-week residency is taking place at one of the best-known clubs on the planet, made famous by hedonistic after-hours sessions and all-day partying.
Running from 11 pm to 7 am on September 1, Solid Grooves will offer its well-known mix of tech and minimal house to its cult following. This week, regulars of Solid Grooves PAWSA and Dennis Cruz are joined by Nicole Moudaber, Automatic Writing, Carloh, Chklte, Eddy M, Maayan Nidam, wAFF, and Youandewan.
DJ PAWSA co-founded Solid Grooves Records alongside Michael Bibi. He’s a proven expert at controlling the crowd and uses his unique tech-house flare to guide them towards total dance delusion. He sits at the top of this week’s Solid Grooves lineup like the dancefloor patriarch he is.
For an exciting B2B, Dennis Cruz and Nicole Moudaber unite on the Solid Grooves stage. Dennis Cruz has been noted as Beatport’s third-best tech house artist and is a pillar of the underground house and tech community. As the head of MOOD Records, Nicole Moudaber is also an event promoter, radio personality, philanthropist, and advocate for the electronic music community.
Automatic Writing is a DJ act spearheaded by the trio behind the record label of the same name: Darween, Jacan and Guillermo Jamas. These Parisian prodigies are known for their impeccable selects and precision behind the decks.
A man of few words, Carloh describes himself as “a house gangster.” With tracks of big labels like Hot Creations and Desolat, his Latin-flared house grooves fit in perfectly with the Solid Grooves team.
After cutting his teeth in Austin, Texas Chklte became well known for his vibrant yet delicate melodies. His subtleness behind the decks is juxtaposed by his towering height. Now a regular globe-trotter, he joins the Solid Grooves lineup this week to share his chops.
Eddy M’s unique style of tech house and techno is as much influenced by iconic 90s hip hop as it is by his background in classical jazz. This Italian is now based out of Spain and will play multiple dates with the Solid Grooves gang this season.
Maayan Nidam’s live sets are improvisational, subtle, and, at times, mesmerizing. This German producer developed a live solo act that closely mimics her sense of experimentation in the studio. With live dubbing, improv, and obscure interludes, a Maayan Nidam set is for true audiophiles.
With his music, Britain’s wAFF has grown from underground clubs to some of the most prestigious stages and labels in the world. His enthusiasm and crisp production made tracks like “Groover” and “Jo Johnson” bonafide dance floor scorchers.
Ewan Smith’s dancefloor forward style was introduced on his debut EP, Scarlett. Since relocating to Germany, he’s prioritized a “chiller and far more nuanced” style of recording and performing.
