Overview
MESTIZA is a Spanish DJ and producer duo recognized for merging flamenco traditions with contemporary electronic music, creating a sound and visual identity rooted in Spanish culture while connected to modern club spaces worldwide. Formed by Pitty Bernad and Belah after years of individual experience within the electronic scene, the project emerged from a shared desire to bring the rhythms, emotion, and storytelling of flamenco into house and melodic electronic music in a way that felt authentic to their upbringing.
Raised around flamenco music and Andalusian cultural influences, the duo drew inspiration from traditional Spanish forms such as coplas, palmas, and folkloric instrumentation while developing a modern club focused sound shaped by house, Afro house, melodic house, and Latin influences. The name MESTIZA, derived from the Spanish word for “mixed,” reflects the project’s foundation in cultural fusion, combining heritage, fashion, performance art, and electronic production into a single artistic world.
Since launching the project, MESTIZA has developed into one of the most visible Spanish acts within the international electronic scene. Their performances are known for integrating flamenco dancers, live musicians, Spanish inspired staging, and visual storytelling alongside contemporary DJ sets. Rather than separating music from presentation, the duo treats fashion, lighting, production, and performance as interconnected elements of the experience.
Central to their growth has been SACRO, the label and event concept created by the duo. Initially launched in Madrid, SACRO expanded into Ibiza before developing into an international event platform with editions held across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Americas. The concept combines electronic music with flamenco rooted aesthetics and has hosted events in cities including Ibiza, Barcelona, Madrid, London, Miami, Dubai, Tulum, Marrakech, and New York. Venues associated with the series include Cova Santa Ibiza, IFEMA Madrid, Poble Espanyol, and Brunch Electronik Madrid, where multiple editions sold out.
MESTIZA also became the first female DJ duo to hold a residency at Hï Ibiza, marking an important milestone within one of the world’s most recognized club institutions. The residency further established their presence within the global house music circuit while expanding visibility for female artists operating at the highest level of the scene.
On the production side, the duo gained broader recognition through releases that fused flamenco melodies and Spanish storytelling with contemporary electronic arrangements. Their debut album Quëreles, released through their own imprint Sacro Music, reached number one on Spain’s official vinyl chart and introduced a wider audience to their interpretation of Spanish rooted electronic music. Tracks such as “Campanera” became representative of their sound, balancing traditional melodies with modern club production. Their follow up project, Spanish Chica, continued exploring electronic music through Latin and global influences while expanding the scope of their live performances and touring activity.
Beyond music, MESTIZA has built a recognizable visual language tied closely to Spanish fashion, femininity, and cultural symbolism. Their imagery frequently incorporates flamenco inspired styling, traditional silhouettes, and contemporary editorial aesthetics, reinforcing the connection between heritage and modern nightlife culture that defines the project.
As electronic music continues reconnecting with regional sounds and cultural identity, MESTIZA has become one of the defining acts leading that conversation from Spain. Through their music, events, and visual direction, the duo has created a platform that bridges flamenco tradition with contemporary club culture while introducing Spanish rooted electronic music to audiences around the world.
