DJ Sneak Open Air with Darius Syrossian

Those lucky enough to see a set from DJ Sneak know they’re witnessing a master at work. We here at Gray Area are honored to welcome DJ Sneak to our home field of New York City this summer. As a true dance music legend, Sneak is known worldwide for his brilliantly crafted, floor-stomping tracks. Join us July 8, on The Roof at Superior Ingredients, for a hearty helping of Chicago house set against the breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline.

Before Sneak was a worldwide influence, he was a product of the second wave of Chicago powerhouse producers. After his family immigrated to the States from Puerto Rico in the 80s, he immediately took to local music. Since English wasn’t his first language, he felt innately drawn to instrumental music. Namely, house music. In 1996, he released his breakthrough album, Blue Funk Files, on Green Velvet’s notable Relief Records. And the whole world began to listen.

His musical approach was somehow both classic and innovative. He unabashedly injected house music with his classic filtered disco sound and splash of Latin flair. In this way, he would go on to influence some of the biggest stars in house music. Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx, and Armand Van Helden have all outwardly revered him as a significant inspiration. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say Sneak’s contribution to the scene has been immense.

He’s long been a staple in Ibiza and the worldwide festival and club circuit. Recently, he’s also impressively taken total creative control of himself as an artist. He fully owns his past masters and meticulously curates his performance schedule. So, when given a chance, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to see a true legend command the dancefloor.

It's only proper that we pair Sneak with another artist who has reached a status in house music few can claim. Darius Syrossian is a longtime stalwart of the UK scene, helming curation for record shops in the 90s, and dropping proper house music on Hot Creations, Defected, Crosstown Rebels, and his own Moxy Muzik since 2004. He's embedded in global club culture just as much as in the UK, holding down residencies at Amnesia Ibiza while smashing nearly every major club and festival system several times over. A DJ and curator of the truest sense, he's a celebrated artist who can cross the spectrum from deep to funky and disco to techno and back again, all without missing a beat.
