Shimza President’s Day Weekend

South Africa's "Effect Master" and "Vinyl Assassin," Shimza, returns to Superior Ingredients in Brooklyn on February 19, 2023. When we last had Shimza in town for his New York Debut, he brought the house down with his signature Afro tech sound, and we're ready to do it all over again. It's President's Day weekend, and with no work on Monday, there's no excuse not to spend the night with Gray Area and one of South Africa's leading house music producers. This show will sell out, so don't sleep on the chance to catch Shimza's highly anticipated return to New York in the main room of Superior Ingredients.

Few South African artists are becoming as well known overseas as Tembisa-born, Mzansi-based DJ, producer, and label owner Shimza. And as the uniquely African sounds of house music continue to permeate the globe, Shimza's star is rising. In 2022, the Kunye record label owner made appearances on some of the world's most celebrated stages, including Ushuaia and Blue Marlin in Ibiza, Unum Festival in Albania, Caprices Festival in Switzerland, Burning Man, and his own Kunye showcase in London.

Shimza is closing out a monumental 2022 strong as one of Beatport's top 100 producers in Afro house. His recent remix of WhoMadeWho and Rampa's "Everyday," has held top position in the charts since its October release.

Hailing from Tembisa, South Africa, Shimza first showed his musical prowess at 15. In 2013, Shimza signed with Black Cofee's Soulistic Music. The release of his full-length album, Shimuzic, as well as collaborations and singles like "African Woman" and "Akulalwa," firmly established him as one of South Africa's most exciting talents.

Shimza's years of experience on the decks and in the studio are apparent in every performance and release. Seeing him live is an experience that you won't soon forget. He is well known for his innovative and infectious DJing style, punctuating his sets with intricate queuing and looping as he crafts his distinctive sound. The symbiosis between DJ and the dancefloor is crucial, and Shimza has mastered this fragile relationship.
