It is no surprise to learn that Shimza’s fans have nicknamed him the “Effects Master.” Deftly layering echo, reverb, and more onto enchanting vocals and hypnotic beats, his mix for Defected explains his rapid success in the global Afro house scene.

Hailing from Tembisa, South Africa, Shimza – aka Ashley Raphala – first showed musical prowess at 15. In 2013, Shimza was signed to Black Cofee's Soulistic Music record label. The release of his full-length album, Shimuzic, as well as collaborations and singles like “African Woman” and “Akulalwa,” have firmly established Shimza as one of South Africa’s leading house music producers.

Backed by the support and encouragement from his family, Raphala now runs the charitable event brand, One Man show – an outdoor party held every Christmas Day to raise funds for underprivileged children in his local community.

Since its inception, One Man Show has featured appearances from some of South Africa’s most accomplished artists, including AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Riky Rick, Black Coffee, Mi Casa, Black Motion, and more.

In 2016, Raphala made his acclaimed Ibiza debut at Destino’s Closing Party alongside Luciano. Hailed as a new rising star by Ibiza music and Essential Ibiza, he now continues to take the island by storm, and is set to play Ushuaïa Beach Hotel and Blue Marlin this September.
