Beginning in 2020, the Dirtybird Records label boss mentored her for three years, welcoming her to the imprint’s flock. Nala says that being part of the esteemed label feels like having a supportive family connection. The sound designer boasts a close advisory relationship with both Claude VonStroke and his wife, Aundy Crenshaw. Her early professional years were officially managed by the Dirtybird Records founding duo.
“The best part about connecting with Claude [VonStroke] is that he’s pushed me out of my comfort zone and given me the confidence to reach for the stars as an artist and business owner,” Nala told 5Mag.Net. “It was at his suggestion that I start my label. He was the one to push me as a producer as well and, overall, he taught me the importance of being self-sufficient.”
Since being discovered by the weird, funky, and quirky-sounding tunes producer, she has garnered the attention of top artists due to her distinct take on Riot Grrrl-style vocals and affinity for analog sounds that brings rock back into the world of dance music.
Nala’s 2022 releases on Dirtybird Records, Pets Recordings, and Black Book Records charted several Beatport Top 100s and year-end lists, as well as received global support. Her “The World is Always Ending” music video with Nikki Nair even made the Top 10 music videos of the year on Mixmag Asia. Certainly, Nala proves to be one to watch within the dance music scene.
