In 2023, Catz N’ Dogz, the house and techno partnership from Polish natives Grzegorz Demiañczuk and Wojciech Tarañczuk (a.k.a Greg and Voitek), celebrates 20 years of bringing innovative and infectious beats to dance floors around the world.

Over the past two decades, the pair have met every facet of dance music culture, and their new compilation, 20 Years of Catz ‘n Dogz, is a living testament to that history.

The compilation is out now on their own record label, Pets Recordings, which not only shared some of the duo’s earliest releases but has major artists like KiNK, Gerd Janson, Roman Flügel, and Justin Martin in its catalog right alongside exciting newcomers such as Nala and MADVILLA.

Greg and Voitek have also launched the sublabel Steps Recordings, which explores “the raw forms & root functions of quality music” with entries from artists like Lady Blacktronika, Baltra, and The Analog Roland Orchestra.

And beyond Greg and Voitek’s premier work as label heads, 20 Years of Catz ‘n Dogz takes a deep dive into their own discography with a series of both new and previously shared music.

Over the past 20 years, Catz n’ Dogz has released six full-length albums along with dozens of EPs on prominent labels like Defected, Edible, Watergate, Dirtybird, and even mothership, Claude VonStroke’s oft-forgotten heady counterpart to Dirtybird.

On the remix side, some of the most well-known acts in house and techno like Solomun and Riva Starr have put a new spin on Greg and Voitek’s work while they put the touch on music from superstars like RÜFÜS DU SOL.

In total, the compilation includes 20 tracks, one for each year, some new and some old, that paint a clear and concise picture of why Greg and Voitek are so in demand two decades later.

Check out five standout tracks from 20 Years of Catz ‘n Dogz below:

1. Catz 'n Dogz - Wave (Matisa Remix)

2023 has been a breakout year for the Italian sensation Matisa, helming her first tour of Asia, dropping a four-track EP on Duality Trax, and becoming an entrant in the Yves Saint Laurent Push the Boundaries contest for her efforts to create more space for women in dance music.

Now she continues that forward mobility with a remix of Catz n’ Dogz’ “Wave” for their 20-year compilation. This is one of the new cuts on the comp, with the original mix found on Catz n’ Dogz’ 2019 album Friendship. Where the original is a lo-fi, downtempo chiller, Matisa cranked up the energy perfectly for peak time on the dancefloor.

2. Catz n’ Dogz - Stay

An original cut from Basic Colour Theory, Catz n’ Dogz’ 2015 LP, and their first on their own label, Pets Recordings, “Stay” demonstrates the alternative approach they’ve brought to house and techno over the past 20 years. In listening, no one can deny its groove and its danceability, but it’s also very subtle.

The kick drum has presence rather than dominance, and with this extra airspace created by the understated rhythm section, Greg and Voitek can flex their talent for sampling and sound design.

3. Disclosure feat. LION BABE - Hourglass (Catz n' Dogz Remix)

One of the other superstar artists Catz n’ Dogz was tapped to remix the UK pop dance pioneers Disclosure. On their sophomore album, Caracal, the brothers' Guy, and Howard leaned harder into the pop side, building off slower tempos and less club-driven beats.

However, when it came time for the remixes, the club was far from off-limits, and Catz n’ Dogz took "Hourglass,” a collaboration with the NYC funk and soul outfit LION BABE and morphed it into a minimal techno symphony.

4. Catz n' Dogz - Rave History (Maruwa Remix)

While no genre has ever been taboo for Catz n’ Dogz, trance has been the road less traveled for them throughout the past 20 years. And so, for the compilation, it’s only natural one of the new remixes’ ventures on that road less traveled. Furthermore, it’s only natural they tapped another rising star for the new remix, Germany’s own Maruwa who, through some frenetic, coruscating synth action, turned a breakbeat track into a trance heater.

5. Catz n Dogz & Gerd Janson - Modern Romance

When two dance veterans like Catz n’ Dogz and Gerd Janson come together, magic is sure to happen, and their 2020 collaboration “Modern Romance” is proof of that. As a member of Tuff City Kids with Lauer, Gerd Janson built his production career on collaborations in the studio.

He’s co-produced and remixed artists like Kill Frenzy, BĘÃTFÓØT, and Tensnake, always bringing his undeniable talent for disco and house grooves into the equation. On “Modern Romance,” Janson combined that talent with Catz n’ Dogz’s talent for minimalism, and the result is a progressive cut with fiery disco energy.
