Overview

Detroit Love kicks off its Brooklyn takeover on Saturday night inside the Room at Superior Ingredients with Carl Craig, DJ Holographic, Skin, and Van Der Laan leading the charge. The venue’s darker, more focused space — built strictly for sound and lights — sets the tone for a proper late-night session where Detroit’s club energy feels right at home.

The series was created by Carl Craig, one of Detroit’s most influential figures, whose work as an artist, label head, and cultural force helped shape the city’s musical identity and export its sound worldwide. His vision sits at the core of Detroit Love, guiding the curation with an emphasis on range, depth, and independence.

Saturday’s show brings that ethos into a club-focused environment designed for immersion. The Room’s tight layout and tuned system strip things back to the essentials — no distractions, no excess — allowing the music and the dancefloor to fully lock in. It’s the first chapter of the weekend and the one that hits with full club impact.

As both founder and performer, Carl Craig anchors the night with a set shaped by decades of output across techno, house, jazz, and experimental electronics. His presence connects the roots of Detroit Love directly to the dancefloor, reinforcing the principles the series was built on.

DJ Holographic brings a Detroit-forward sound informed by house, techno, disco, R&B, and Motown. Over the past decade she’s thrown down at places like Panorama Bar, fabric, and Output, she has also appeared at Movement Detroit, OFFSónar, and Coachella. She runs the labels Hitchhiker and Through The Veil and previously curated Detroit Love Vol. 5 for Planet E Communications.

Skin is best known as the lead vocalist of Skunk Anansie, a defining act of the UK’s Britrock era. Recognized for her wide-ranging soprano voice and commanding presence, her career spans rock, electronic, and experimental work, alongside broader cultural recognition for her influence and visibility within music.

Rounding out the lineup, Van Der Laan is an Amsterdam-born, New York–based DJ and curator whose selections draw from deep house, jazz, and long-form storytelling. Her approach favors flow and intention, making her a natural fit for a night built around movement and continuity.
