OCHO Episode 12
Overview
One year ago, Gray Area teamed up with Diplo's Revolution and Sirius XM for the first OCHO, furthering the effort to unite disparate house music scenes worldwide. We couldn't be more pleased to be presenting the 12th installment of the show this month. On October 22, we're back on the airwaves to bring you eight hours of world-class underground dance music from a tasty lineup representing the global scene.
DJ, producer, and vocalist Bklava seamlessly mixes passionate toplines with a scintillating blend of house and UKG. With hits like "Thinkin of You" and "Sinner" with LP Giobbi under her belt, she's dominating festival stages from CRSSD to AVA Festival.
Lebanese-born minimal tech dynamo ChaseWest brought the vibes to our show with Archie Hamilton in September, so we had to have this rising star on OCHO. With support from the likes of Michael Bibi and Jamie Jones, he's one to watch.
Classmatic is among the many incredible artists to arise out of Brazil in recent memory. His breakthrough hit with Nfasis, "Toma Dale," released on Hot Creations in 2022 and has received heavy support from DJs worldwide, including Solardo, Vintage Culture, Armin Van Burren, John Summit, and Seth Troxler. If you've been to the club or a summer festival, you've heard Classmatic's slinky beats.
Deeper Purpose stormed the scene in 2021 when his remix of Piero Pirupa's "Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)" was dubbed the longest-running Beatport Tech House #1 of the year. The UK DJ and producer has since dropped an avalanche of throbbing dance floor heat on labels like Fisher's Catch & Release, Saved, Insomniac Records, and Tomorrowland Music.
Kyle Walker does everything from deep and melodic to gritty gutter tech with style and class. Besides holding down the #3 spot on Beatport across all genres for three weeks in 2021 with his Repopulate Mars debut "Zilla," the LA-based producer is a sought-after remixer, putting his spin on AmyElle's "Feel The Heat," and Ferreck Dawn Guz's "Knock Me Out."
Born in Germany and raised in Jamaica, Melanie Ribbe has a rich tapestry of musical history to draw from for her slinky tech house. After attending the London Academy of Music Production, the model turned-musician found her way to a regular timeslot at one of dance music's most celebrated institutions, Amnesia, Ibiza, where she's held a residency for two years.
As one of the founding members of Dirtybird, Mz Worthy's impact on modern dance music culture has been immense. From her 2007 debut with the label "Irst Tre" to her critically acclaimed 2014 album Disbehave, she's playfully toyed with the boundaries of the classic house sound. Yet, despite her veteran status, she's the most connected she's ever been to music since coming out as transgender in 2020, a journey she's shared with her fans worldwide.
Liverpool DJ Sosa's stranglehold on the tech house scene is yet another reason all eyes are on the Northern UK city. His catalog of certified club weapons like "DFCW" and "It's Time to Move" have slid into the sets of artists like Skream, Solardo, Michael Bibi, and fellow Liverpoolean CamelPhat. Beyond the studio, SOSA maintains a blinding tour schedule bringing him to Ibiza, Berlin, Miami, and New York.
