LP Giobbi: Light Places Tour
Queens, New York
Overview
LP Giobbi has firmly established herself as a once-in-a-generation artist. She's brilliantly discovered the sweet spot that marries her patchwork of sonic influences, taking notes from jazz, electronic, classic rock, and classical. On November 18th, we welcome The undisputed Queen of Piano House to the historic Knockdown Center for her biggest New York headline show to date.
LP encapsulates everything we love about dance music culture: a dynamic range of unbridled talent, a fierce activist spirit, and a courageous DIY mindset. Ever since her 2018 debut, she's stepped further into her role as one of dance music's boldest change makers. Her catalog brims with an array of intensely creative works ranging from the soaring vocals and joyous piano stabs of "Say A Little Prayer" to the uplifting "Sinner" with Bklava. She's channeled the spirit of her Deadhead upbringing, finding the inflection point between peace-loving generations of hippies and ravers with the groundbreaking Garcia(Remixed), completely reimagining The Grateful Dead in a way only she could. And her stunning debut album Light Places, further proved her visionary status and a future that sees her transitioning from house music producer and DJ to fully-fledged sonic storyteller.
LP performs with a sense of unbridled joy and passion. Never for a moment standing still as she hops from the decks to her keyboard with the brightest of smiles. She isn't just a joy to watch; she's a wonder to experience. Building on her roots in classical jazz performance, she's taken the improvisational nature of a rockin' DJ set and added her own flair accenting her impeccable selections with live sampling and gorgeous piano riffs.
LP is in a lane of her own when you consider her nearly 3M monthly Spotify listeners, her releases on venerated labels like Ninja Tune, Defected, and Insomniac, and her stacked performance schedule that takes her to festivals and clubs worldwide. But beyond the indelible mark she's left on music, she's done just as much for the community with Femme House. The artist collective and educational platform gives women and gender-expansive people more visibility in music through education, scholarships, and professional development opportunities.
Electronic producer Bad Snacks has teamed up with LP Giobbi for her "Light Places" tour. After immersing herself in LA's vibrant beat scene for several years, she has distinguished herself as a genre-defying tech enthusiast, wielding a synthesized violin and singing during live performances like her set at Imagine Music Festival.
An artist of LP's caliber deserves an equally impressive venue. The Atrium at KDC is outfitted with one of the most unique lighting systems found anywhere in New York, accented with an array of beam lights and strobes running along the length of the cabin-like ceiling, and a constant rotation of LED boards, spotlights, hanging lights, and disco balls elevating the experience.
Prior to her Light Places tour shows, LP Giobbi's non-profit FEMME HOUSE will be hosting an Intro to Ableton Live Session, which offers participants foundational skills in Ableton Live. RSVP to the workshop here and start your musical journey!
