Debut: Westend NY Headline Show with Tini Gessler
Brooklyn, New York
Overview
In recent years, house music has faced a fantastic revolution, the emergence of tech house as a mainstage mainstay has pushed a once-misunderstood subgenre to the forefront of dance music, and one of the artists at the helm of this innovation is New York-born DJ and producer, Westend. On Friday, May 5, 2023, we’re welcoming this house music chameleon to headline The Roof of Superior Ingredients in Brooklyn. With the magnificent Manhattan skyline as a backdrop, he’s dropping his biggest hometown headline show to date!
Westend, né Tyler Morris, strives to incorporate a fresh new take on tech house as we know it. From the beginning, he wanted the freedom to do as he pleases and not to be categorized as a one-sound pony. If you follow his musical trajectory, you’ll see that his catalog has incredible range and spans a variety of sounds.
That thought process has served him well, if his Beatport charting is any indication. He’s currently the #8 best-selling artist in tech house and #28 in all genres. In 2022, alongside fellow New Yorker CID, he struck gold with his first #1 on Beatport. “Let Me Take You,” released on Armada Subjekt, is the second collaboration between these two. Supported by Armin van Burren, Tiesto, Oliver Heldens, Fatboy Slim, and Claptone, it’s also Westend’s most streamed Spotify track, with a staggering 10.3M streams. This is unsurprising, as “Let Me Take You” is the perfect summer choon with funky grooves, upbeat vibes, and infectious vocals. And judging by the success of Westend’s first venture with CID, it seems these two together create musical fire. Their first release, “Jumpin,” peaked at #2 on Beatport’s overall chart and currently has 8.6M streams on Spotify.
“Let Me Take You”
Westend’s talents extend far beyond his wide-ranging originals. His flip of Flume’s remix of “You & Me” by Disclosure was one of the hottest IDs of the summer. More recently, the New York Times gave Westend props for his remix of “The White Lotus” theme song, calling it a “luscious tech house beat that’ll have your stereo shaking.”
Beyond his production prowess, Westend crisscrosses the country, regularly dropping diverse and sometimes dirty sets at festivals and clubs from EDC and CRSSD to Shambahla and Ubbi Dubbi.
Joining Westend for his Headline Debut is Gray Area regular and elrow resident, Tini Gessler. We honestly can't get enough of Tini's sparkling and electrifying music. Her recent release with on Adam Beyer's Drumcode, "Nothing Expected," sees the German-born, Spanish-based talent going in grinding acid synths, and thunderous bassline. And she always takes her DJ sets to inescapably dance-inducing levels.
The Roof at Superior Ingredients seems to be the spot for parties. Formerly known as Output, the club underwent renovations and resurfaced revamped and refreshed. The Roof boasts breathtaking views of the Manhattan Skyline and a temperature-regulated glass enclosure.
This booking feels pretty apropos for Westend, as Output was a heavy part of his formational days as a young raver. Seamlessly weaving bits of New York in all he does, including his DJ name, Westend has proven to be a formidable force. With releases on Repopulate Mars, Insomniac Records, and Dirtybird, Westend’s blend of vocals interspersed over bass-laden rolling tech house is compelling, unique, and party rocking. 2023 is off to a strong start for the native New Yorker, and we can’t wait to be a part of his journey.
