Overview

Gray Area is back on Sirius XM radio, with a new installment of OCHO on August 20. Featuring eight uninterrupted hours of music, OCHO brings you exclusive sets by your favorite—and soon-to-be favorite—house and techno acts hailing from countries all across the globe. Tune in on Saturday to hear unreleased records and exclusive remixes by these international techno and house heavyweights: Durante, Iglesias, Illyus & Barrientos, JAMIIE, Latmun, Santé, Shimza, and LP Giobbi.

Featuring sets by

Italian-born Kevin Durante, who goes by his artist name Durante, holds over a decade of experience DJing and creating dance music. His collaborative record “Forget about Me,” produced with Aluna and Diplo, has surpassed 17 million streams to date, proving the producer’s penchant for producing dance hits. The artist, classically trained in piano from an early age, tinkered with music in his youth, but the second he grabbed ahold of a computer with a DAW installed, the young talent knew that he’d uncovered a lifelong passion. These days, Durante is a successful touring DJ and one of Anjunadeep’s most esteemed artists.

London-based Iglesias is one tech house DJ to watch. The producer's EPs have landed him on tastemaker imprints Repopulate Mars, Solid Grooves, and Resonance Records in the last few years. Iglesias' sets often draw elements from classic disco, and rolling grooves heard in Italo house music. Currently a resident at Sankeys Ibiza, he continues to receive support from industry veterans like Latmun, Lee Foss, and Marco Carola.

Illyus & Barrientos are one of Glasgow’s finest music exports. The pair’s music, notorious for setting the dancefloor ablaze, often features hints of Barrientos' Chilean upbringing with a modern house feel. Their joyous vocal house records perfectly blend the DJ duo's combined upbringing, melding elements of classical piano and vibrant hip hop. With releases on Toolroom and Ultra under their belt, Illyus & Barrientos continue to cement their status as house staples.

Berlin-based JAMIIE is an eclectic selector that never plays the same set twice. The German-Nigerian DJ’s carefully crafted live sets are as emotive as they are rhythmic. Often featuring deep atmospheres alongside uplifting soundscapes, the artist’s dynamic blends of tribal sounds and melodies continue to set her apart among her house and techno peers. With numerous critically-acclaimed releases on Watergate Records, Studio Kreuzberg, Cacao Records, and Harabe Recordings, JAMIIE is a future house heavyweight in the making.

At the helm of the modern tech house sound is Joe Bradley, better known as Latmun. In 2016, the DJ’s dynamic Def EP catapulted him to the top of Beatport’s charts. Since, the producer continues to garner popularity and support from house enthusiasts and dance music peers like Carl Cox and Jamie Jones.

Austin-based co-founder of the FEMME HOUSE non-profit and the Animal Talk label-collective, DJ LP Giobbi is a tour du force. The self-proclaimed ‘one woman jam band’ is a revered industry leader, in large part for her consistent activism to change the tune of shady industry practices and shatter glass ceilings. The critically acclaimed DJ is outspoken when it comes to creating equitable opportunities for women and LGBTQ persons in the technical facets of the music industry. Her introspective house music is often laced with hypnotic grooves, melodic keys, and rhythmic percussion—a distinctly uplifting combination, apt for an artist whose inimitably exuberant productions mirror her altruistic way of being.

South African DJ Shimza is one of the region’s leading afro house producers. The One Man Show event brand he’s created illustrates his love and commitment to charitable causes—fundraising for underprivileged children—and to the afro house subgenre and house music community at large. The event, founded in 2009, has hosted incredible South African talents of the likes of Black Coffee, Mi Casa, Black Motion, and Riky Rick. Music truly is a universal language, and this is exactly what Shimza demonstrates through his philanthropic endeavors and harmonious afro house music releases.
