Ida Engberg
Brooklyn, New York
Overview
Swedish multi-hyphenate Ida Engberg takes over the roof of Superior Ingredients on Sunday, November 27 to close out Gray Area's Thanksgiving weekend festivities with an extended set. The Drumcode resident, producer, and activist is undoubtedly one of the world's most authentic and technical DJs. She regularly performs on the massive stages of festivals like Awakenings, Zurich's Street Parade, Extrema, and of course, Drumcode Festival. Given her commanding presence in the scene and the fact that she's such a sought-after performer, catching her on the intimate, temperature-controlled rooftop of Superior Ingredients is a rare treat. It's one that you don't want to sleep on.
This year has been one for the books for Engberg, who recently launched a residency at the fresh, new Ibiza hotspot Club Chinois. She helmed the party, which ran for nearly two months this summer, inviting other techno heavyweights like Kölsch, Chris Liebing, Matador, and Layla Benitez. The six-week residency was in addition to her appearances on the island for Solid Grooves and Trick at DC-10 as well as Paradise at Amnesia Ibiza.
By the time Engberg released her hit single "Disco Volante" in 2007, she was already fast becoming a pivotal member of the Swedish dance music circuit. The track established her imitable penchant for melody and block-rocking drums, catapulting her into the international scene. She's since released on Anjunabeats, Get Physical Music, Kittball Records, and Crosstown Rebels. The latter is the home of her upcoming remix of Manqo's "Always Something," yet another sleek and sophisticated dance floor gem.
Ida's technical prowess behind the decks is second to none. Her precision is unshakeable. Her track selection is brilliant, effortlessly moving from breathtaking and melodic to banging, funky techno, with a deep understanding of how to guide the vibe of the dancefloor. While you may not know exactly what to expect from this dynamic and captivating artist, you know you can rest assured that this will be one Sunday Funday you need to experience on The Roof.
