Doubleheader with Lucati & Eskuche
Brooklyn, New York
Overview
Gray Area's Doubleheader concept allows two headliners to share their synergy behind the decks through three unique performances in one night. First, each DJs separately—building the vibe in their unique way. Then, they combine forces to close the night out with a unique (never before seen) b2b set. These unexpected pairings not only expose our community to some of house music's most surprising talents. They create space on the dancefloor for two artists to stretch their wings in new and exciting ways. On February 10, 2022, in The Room at Superior Ingredients Brooklyn, we're bringing together the nascent styles of Lucati and Eskuche for a cross-continental blend of uplifting tech and scintillating Latin house.
Los Angeles-based producer and DJ Lucati has spent the last six years pushing unbelievably groovy dance floor heat for some of underground house music's biggest tastemakers. From the moment he stepped onto the scene with 2017's Hunger Capitol on Kyle Watson's Box of Cats, it was clear that his imitable sense of rhythm was second to none. He's continued to embody the fundamentals of house music via releases on Green Velvet's Relief Records, Tchami's Confession, Lee Foss' Repopulate Mars, Dirtybird, and Insomniac. Beyond his deep catalog of pulsating bass-forward house beats, he's been sought out for remixes and collaboration with the likes of Tchami, Dombresky, and Black V Neck. Most recently, he teamed up with Gettoblaster for the Cameras, Flash, Action EP and dropped a hypnotic remix of Chris Lorenzo's hit "MAMI."
Russian-born, Miami-based groove selector Eskuche comes with a pedigree equally as strong as the artist with whom he will share the stage. Since his debut a decade ago, Eskuche's dynamic, no-nonsense percussion patterns and soul-snatching bass lines have made him one of the most consistently impressive talents to work on heavy-hitter labels like Hot Creations, Elrow, Relief, and more.
Eskuche somehow manages to capture the ephemeral qualities of Miami, New York, and Ibiza (all places he has called home) and roll them into one compelling sound. A sound that's captured love from Green Velvet—whom he also calls a collaborator—to Gorgon City, who released last summer's "Turn The Lights" on their label REALM, which spent a month in the Beatport Top 100.
What can we expect from two artists who have pushed themselves to the forefront of festival and club culture? Combining the sexy Latin-tinged beats of Lucati with Eskuche's ability to fluidly blend stuttering rhythms, endlessly deep melodics, and thumping funky basslines is sure to make for a night of incredibly infectious energy.
You best believe that getting there early is well worth it. On direct support for the night, we’ve pulled in some new friends, MISS DRE and Local Singles, who will be going B2B. In recent years San Francisco-born MISS DRE’s sphere has grown much larger than the stalwart West Coast capital of the weird and funky. Songs like “Give It To Ya” and “Something Special” landing on key house labels like Psycho Disco and Farris Wheel, respectively, a remix for Justin Martin, and the anticipated release of “See Me Give It” on hau5trap are all clear signs that she’s set to dominate.
We had Local Singles out to open up elrow last summer, and we just had to have the boys back. They lit up the summer with their edit of Disclosure and Flume’s “You & Me,” with Westend. And proving they have plenty of tricks up their sleeves, the cheeky duo have forthcoming releases on some of the hottest labels in the game, including South of Saturn, Night Service Only, Techne, and Toolroom.
