A short-lived, yet intense desert experience is the bones of Monegros Desert Festival. 22 hours of music, art installations, and a radical audio-visual experience make up the meat of the event. Impossible to illustrate the extent of the festival without attending yourself, the unparalleled event is described as the biggest electronic music festival in Spain, featuring 100+ artists across 11+ stages with 50,000+ attendees from over 80 countries. The electronic festival takes place in the middle of nowhere in Monegros Desert in Aragon, Spain. The harsh desert landscape and non-stop festivities make for an extreme festival experience made only for those that can withstand the ferocity.
Monegros Desert Festival puts a focus on techno as the biggest techno festival in the country, but also hosts artists across genres like hip-hop, drum & bass, house, tech house, acid, techno, hardcore, and more. Festival-goers are transported to a creative oasis that appears and disappears in 24 hours. In addition to music, the multi-cultural festival features art, architecture, visuals, impossible structures, performing arts, and more. Each stage presents its own unique atmosphere and sound, all with intricate designs and industry-leading audio-visual equipment, including Funktion One, Greenlight Sound System, Kierewiet System, and L-Acoustics.

Sprawled across the barren desert, decorating the impoverished land are a dozen different music zones. Festival stages include the Sound System Temple main stage which features headliners and pays tribute to early raves, the covered Techno Cathedral with 360 sound, The elrow Stage sponsored by Absolut featuring psychedelic video mapping, the Open Air festival epicentre hosting six global electronic superstars, The Club which inside an A330 airplane with surprise sessions only, Industry City x DC area which features two stages, including Kiereweit System, separated by a half pipe featuring some of the hardest sounds of the festival, the Corrall stage inside a barn where the event got its start, another barn, El Pajar, which features emerging Spanish drum & bass artists, and Greenlight Corner, the festival’s dedicated “almost secret” space for dub and roots reggae featuring dozens of speakers around a control tower.

There is also an exclusive space, the Artist Village, for VIP guests and performers positioned inside a real train; regular attendees can also enter through a secret way that must be discovered.

This year’s Monegros Desert Festival celebrates its 30th year on July 29th and 30th, 2023. The legendary Wu-Tang Clan is headlining the whole festival. Alongside the hip-hop group is a slew of live bands such as Pendulum, Fernando Costa, Iseo & Dodosound, Ill Pekeño & Ergo Pro, and electronic artists like 999999999, Adam Beyer, Amelie Lens, I Hate Models, Kölsch, Richie Hawtin, Sub Focus, Vintage Culture, and many other cutting-edge names.
