Founded in the mid 1970's, Amnesia rooted its name through its then owner's vision for the club - to create a space where people could go to party, leave their troubles behind and escape from reality. It was with this exact reverie that Ibiza’s OG venue was born.
As house music made its way over shores from Chicago in the early 1980s, DJs on the island started to experiment with this new genre of music. Amnesia introduced a new resident DJ, Alfredo, who quickly gained his title as the 'father of the Balearic Beat'.
This sound encompassed the blending together of disco, pop and house music, which made Amnesia’s dancefloor the go-to place to party.
Throughout this era, Amnesia continued to be one of the most influential clubs on the island, attracting crowds in their thousands, all eager to experience the all-night hedonism for which the venue was so famous.
With the club becoming more and more popular, Amnesia was able to broaden its horizons, firstly expanding the venue physically, and therefore increasing its overall capacity.
Today, the club consists of two humongous dance spaces. The Main Room - a dark, tempting chamber, and The Terrace/Terraza - an expansive glass-roofed dance-hall that fills with light at sunrise.

Over the years, Amnesia has been host to an array of the world’s best DJs and parties including Sven Vath and his Cocoon imprint, Marco Carola and Music On, Jamie Jones and Paradise, as well as Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos and many more.
Its eclectic programming attracts massive crowds every day of the week in the peak summer season, which you need to a part of.
Over the years, the mega-venue has gained international recognition and acclaim, winning Best Global Club for three consecutive years from 2007, by the prestigious International Dance Music Awards in Miami.
It remains one of the island’s most sought-after venues for DJs and music fanatics alike, who travel from all over the world to experience it in all its glory.
As a club steeped in history, it will be interesting to look back in another 50 years to see how the famous space has evolved even further.
